Hard to say if it's junk or not. AR pistols are a gamble as far as reliability is concerned. The short dwell time can be an issue.

All the crap you listed is low grade useless garbage OP. Avoid doing business with "custom" AR builds on Armslist unless it's a well known brand worth actual high dollar (like KAC, Noveske, etc).
90% of people on Armslist VASTLY overvalue their "custom" AR builds.
I posted a build I did for ~700 dollars in some Facebook groups and would get offers upwards of 1200 dollars cash. Some people are really dumb and have a lot of money. This dudes probably assuming you're one of them and is trying to lowball you.

10.5" barrels often have carbine gas systems. I can tell in the pic this one does, I think those are more reliable than pistol length?
I think it's a fair trade op but I'd rather have the 229 just because I could conceal carry it. Tell you I don't like haggling.
