Which branch are you enlisting/enlisted/considering?

Ask questions, get advice from retards on how to lie on the poly, bitch about recruiters, accuse each other of stolen valor, just keep it in this general.
>>
So I'm officially in the DEP today. What should I expect? All my tecruiter said was basically "we'll call you".
>>
>>29935157

They'll call you when it is time to leave.

That is it.
>>
>>29935187
They don't make show up for PT?

What kinda DEP shit is this.
>>
>>29935210
To be more accurate he said well have a meeting and talk about what we're going to do. I was wondering what that involved. Ive got a three month wait.
>>
should i be doing something like c25k for can i just go on a mile run everyday and be fine
>>
>>29935253
What branch?
Do a three mile run every other day or so and you're mostly good to go.
>>
they'll probably want to 1-1-1 with you once a month
>>
>>29935253
Well, if you can already do a mile run, then there's no reason to do C25K. That's for absolute beginners.
>>
I'm meeting an Air Force recruiter on Tuesday. How quickly do they expect me to commit and get involved? I have a trip planned to Brazil in august that I really do not want to cancel.

Also I'm 24 now and on the phone he gave the impression that is too old to become an officer. Is there still a possible path to that or some leadership role?
>>
>>29935503
Do you have a degree?
>>
>>29935503
You make the rules, always remember that. He is a car salesman that needs you to buy his car. If he needs to wait make him wait. You can do the asvab, physical, whatever else now and enlist later.
>>
>>29935503
on the air force web site most MOS's age limit is 39, not sure about officer
>>
>>29935564
>>29935563
I do not have a degree (currently 8 credits shy of an associates degree) so I would need to come in as enlisted and work towards office if that is possible. I am still interested in joining regardless, just wanted to see what all my options are.

I was mostly concerned about putting it off more if jobs I want become available and are taken by someone else.
>>
>>29935085
Hahahaha ebin troll
>>
>>29935659
You'd have to get you degree pretty fast to go AF officer. Your best bet if you want to commission is, as usual, ROTC.

You don't have to PT on your own, but if you start failing to meet standards at drill then they'll flag you.

Fellow DEP fag here. Be a self starter and get used to the military leaving shit vague. This is the government and most people are disorganized and unmotivated as shit. Check over what you got from the career counselor at MEPS. Did he give you a list of shit you have to do? Also, you need to get a direct deposit form if you have a bank acc.

And don't be afraid to ask your recruiter of what to do next. Try to keep in contact with them.

>>
How hard is it to get 11b with an option 4 as of right now? does the army always need infantry?
>>
>>29938022

those who fail a test or have admin red marks are dq'd.

like you can make top marks, but if you get caught sleeping and talk to senior chief you are ineligible. and then no one in that class would get top grad if individual stayed at top

my future soldiers list has 3-4 11X or 11B every day, but there were none when I was at MEPS on the 8th

Why do 11B give 19D so much shit? I'll be shipping 19D

>>
>>29938097
try to get option 40, then you'll go to airborne school before RASP. then when you fail, you'll at least have airborne
>>
>>29938142
I've thought of that. Is it bad that I have a 3.9 GPA and a 32 on my ACT, yet I want 11b, will my recruiter frown at that?
>>
>>29938126

I actually did for falling behind on my coursework. I was trying to take super detailed notes and had a red mark in my record.

But they said I had the highest line scores they had ever seen and i guess someone vouched for me. Still got to shake CO's hand and post for a picture. I thought I was disqualified until my name was called.

>>
18x who's in airborne school

Ask me anything.
>>
>>29938045
They don't give out 11b. Only 11x. Some people get option 4, just tell him you're not signing until he can get it for you. I had 15 people in my basic training class of 140 get airborne at basic. So it's still out there.
>>
>>29938465
Thanks man! 11x op 4 here i come
>>
What happens if I get hurt at basic?

I leave in a week and have been having knee problems for a week now, I stopped running and am stretching but idk if its gunna fuck my shit up
>>
>>29938422
Are you an 18X recruit or did you apply for it after enlistment?
>>
>>29938521
You get put on profile. If you're on profile for a long ass time, you'll probably get recycled. If you do something like totally blow your knee out, you'll get sent home, eventually.
>>
>>29938521
same here, I've been icing my ankle and taking strong ibuprofen, keeping it elevated and compressed as much as possible. if i'm still fucked up next week, I'm going to push my ship date. i don't want to have a permanent limp the rest of my life because i was too stubborn to quit at basic
>>
>>29938528
I was debating between 18x before basic, but I signed a contract at meps for 11x option 40

At basic my drill sergeant (who's an 18D) offered me and 4 other guys who has option 40's 18x contracts. We all took them.

>>29938521
It depends on how bad the injury is.
First things first, they usually put you on "profile" which means you get out of pt and don't get smoked as much, you will then go one of a couple different ways

>WAT : warrior athletic trainer
College students who tell you to stretch and foam roll
> sick call
doctors tell you you're fucked up and you will either just keep training, go to physical therapy, get a bone scan, or get kicked out (see below)
> EPTS existing prior to service
You were hurt before you came in, and now you're kicked out
>convelesence leave
You leave for 30 days or don't train for 30 days, then come back later with a new company.

If you miss too much training you get recycled to another company.
>>
>>29938083
What?
Not the guy your responding to, but I just got jewed by my recruiter

I got a 90 on the ASVAB and wanted 11X, I waited 5 weeks for a slot to open up and my recruiter said there were none that entire time and I enlisted this week as an Intel Analyst
>>
>>29938601
11x are always opening up

I also scored a 90 with a 126GT
You hold your future, threaten the recruiter that you will find someone who will find the contract you want if you really want infantry. When are you supposed to ship?
>>
>>29938601
yeah that happened to a lot of people. sign on to your future soldiers thing and look at the "welcome to our newest future soldiers " list, you'll see a few 11X every day
>>
>>29938601
"None that entire time" = none available the 3-4 times I checked.

You'll be thanking your recruiter in a couple years for saving you from janitor duty.
>>
>>29938621
next month
I already signed the contract because this was my second choice anyways, I am happy with this job, I'm more just pissed that my jew recruiter used me to meet some quota he had, he seemed like an honest and decent guy
>>
So in the military do you get naked in front of other people ? Like for example showering, is it a group shower with a bunch of naked guys walking around ?
>>
>>29938670
yes
>>
>>29938660
Recruiters are sales people, plain and simple. As someone who went through 11b OSUT, he probably did you a favor. Infantry isn't doing anything nowadays. Unless you're special ops, you're barely seeing combat. And isn't that what most infantrymen sign up for? Intel is a good job. Finish your degree, save some money, get out after 4 years and go get a big boy job... Or do your 20.

>>29938670
It depends on where you go for basic. At my basic we had individual showers with curtains, but at this school, there aren't any curtains. You'll get more comfortable being naked in front of other guys.
>>
>>29935114

Good shit. Would you say it's been a good decision, enlisting, that is? Normally I hear mixed reviews that pretty much go, "yeah, it was all right. Best and worst times of my life."
>>
Anyone know anything about 15W? How is AIT?
>>
I will probably get a lot of shit for this, but is their any way to get military quality training or at least close to it without joining the military? No, I am not trying to become a neckbeard Rambo or a TV doomsday prepper. I am thinking about joining the military years from now after i finish college and would like some background so that i am not that retarded middle aged guy stumbling around. Obviously i can go to the gun range but i'm not confident that shooting paper targets like a self defense grandma will adequately prepare me. I suppose paintball would be a step above that since that is already apart of live training in boot camp, but i highly doubt competing against kids and teenagers is the same. I can't join the reserves due to other commitments, but fwiw i practice martial arts and train strength, cardio etc. regularly throughout the week. Any ideas?

ok bitches, here is the real dope

you want to be delta, first you have to join up with an ivy league phd and minimum 10 gpa

then you have to pass the physical. if you're not 6'5 and at least 300lbs with a professional nfl career behind you, forget it manlet, you're not getting in.

then THEY approach YOU. you got to their top secret facility in DC where you undergo the what they call HELL WEEK. during HELL WEEK they test you in the most simple and most brutal method ever. for 24 hours a day, every day, for a week, they punch you in the nuts. that's right faggots, they punch you RIGHT IN THE FUCKING NUTS, all day, every day, all week. that's why they call it HELL WEEK.

you think that's the end? think again motherfuckers. after that, you have to kill your mom. and your dog. don't have a mom or a dog? you're not getting in, you fucking commie.

then it's a ten year MINIMUM probationary period, during which you're in federal prison. can't handle that? you don't have what it takes to be in delta you pussy.

if you survive federal prison and get a presidential pardon, then and ONLY THEN, you can put in a packet. but if you're over 40 and under 80 then go to hell you bitch, you don't have the experience to be CAG.

you think you got what it takes? forget it, you're not going to make it.

>>29941097
No i will actually be middle adged by the time i finish.

And i was exaggerating a bit about stumbling around but what i meant was i would like to have some degree of familiarity to make the transition easier, especially being late to the party.
>>
>>29941131
if you're 45 you can't join up

in that case join before you join so you can train while you are trained

I will be 30... But i guess these days 30 is the new 20 so maybe im wrong.

You REQUIRE a degree for all branches Officer candidate programs. THe best thing to try to do now (if you want to do that) is to do ROTC through a university. You can commission late in age, but you need a degree.

Nevertheless, why the hang up on being an officer?

Just get your cardio on. Trying to teach yourself to shoot (which we barely do in the military) or "martial arts" (which we barely do in the military) is just going to end up making you look foolish. Show up to training as a non-fat that can run and they will teach you everything you need to know.

>>29940815
>>29940922

Painfully obvious that you don't know the difference between O-type officers and Warrant Officers, and that you have no idea what street-to-seat is.

It means apachebro was never really enlisted, but he didn't go to ROTC either. He's a warrant, and came in off the street specifically to be a pilot.

Pilots are rarely bored, even during peacetime, because they have to remain proficient on their airframes.
>>
>>29941464

SLRP (where they pay your loans) is usually shit compared to the GI Bill anyways, and you can't get both for one contract. It only applies to very specific loans, you have to wait quite a while before they actually pay them off (all the while having to make payments and accrue interest) and the cap isn't really that high on what they'll pay.

If you're only doing one contract, you're usually better off taking the GI Bill and just using your paycheck to pay off your student loans. The GI Bill is handily worth >$50,000, and can potentially be worth several times that amount depending on where you go.
>>
>>29938820
I graduated from Fort Sill's BCT yesterday. Just stay out of 1-79th and it's piss easy. 1-79th is the closest modern basic can get to basic twenty years ago. If you get assigned there, don't fuck up.

What's the most effective way of increasing the number of sit-ups that I can do? Other than "just do them a lot."
>>
>>29942018

Doing a ton of fucked-up sit-ups can really screw your back up over time.

Alternate between a few ab exercises. I like planks and leg lifts. Just make sure you're doing them right and engaging your core. You want sore abs, not sore shoulders/wrists.

It'll about 2 years ago. My recruiter actually knows that I was treated, but he's keeping it on the down low since he says if everyone was honest the military would be 1/3 it's size. I'll be talking to him Monday, giving him my birth certificate, social security card, etc. And then I'll go to MEPS about Thursday or Friday next week.
>>
>>29944242
Retired people are permitted to wear their uniforms still, as far as I know. My reason for saying that is a retired Colonel once gave a speech to my unit and he was wearing his (this is Marine Corps).

So either they are permitted or he just got a pass. Guys who didn't do 20 probably shouldn't wear their old uniforms. The exception being a funeral of a guy you served with, some guys wore their dress blues to our deceased buddy's funeral even tho we were EAS'd.

>>
>>29944429
Well I haven't seen a psych in 4 years. Unless the army goes "Oh okay, yeah we'll keep your file while you spend another 4 years going for regular appointments to address this" then I'm otherwise going to get a "fuck off", both from them and the doc because he isn't going to make a one-visit re-diagnosis.

they both did 20+, one is a green beret. I don't really want anyone at my graduation, so I told them that if they want to come, they have to wear their uniforms
>>
>>29944438
I understand, the military as a whole have huge misconceptions about ADHD and will make it far more difficult if not (unfairly) impossible for you. I was just saying in case you wanted to disclose it. Like I said in the last thread, I'm too much of a coward to hide it, but that's my problem.

As a fellow ADHD, I wish you all the best.

An example of the various acronyms you will have to memorize as a newly enlisted member

Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA): Defined as “an alternative that, should negotiations fail, you are willing and able to execute without the other party’s participation or permission.” Understanding your BATNA and the opposite’s BATNA will help you determine when or if you should walk away from the negotiation table. To formulate a practical BATNA, you must have both the capability (resources) and the will to execute this alternative on your own without any assistance.

Convergent Thinkers tend to be reliable, rational, and principle-based. They constantly work to reduce uncertainty and ambiguity. They prefer thorough plans that fully address all contingencies.

Divergent thinkers’ mental processes tend to be creative and spontaneous. They are comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity. They prefer flexible plans with as many options as possible.
>>
You don't need to be a retiree to wear your uniform, you don't even need to have ever been in the military.

Stolen valor was repealed years ago.
>>
Interests are the reason behind your position. It is the “why” behind what you want. To help determine interests, investigate your position through a series of critical thinking (CT), questions that begin with who, what, when, where, and why. There are three basic types of interests; procedural, psychological and substantive.
Procedural interests are those concerning how a process is conducted. Negotiators with procedural interests are not as concerned with the actual details of the outcome as they are with how an outcome is determined.
Psychological interests (sometimes called relationship interests) are concerned with how people feel, how they are perceived, and how they relate with others.
Substantive interests, which are perhaps the most important, have to do with things such as schedules, prices, salaries, etc. These make up the bulk of most negotiations.

>>
Negotiation is a process involving two or more people or groups who have a degree of difference in positions, interests, goals, values, or beliefs and who are striving to reach agreement on issues or courses of action. Negotiation can also be defined as a dialogue intended to resolve disputes, to produce an agreement upon courses of action, to bargain for individual or collective advantage, or to craft outcomes to satisfy various interests.

Position: In negotiating, a position is “what you want.” Your position is what you envision as your best possible outcome. This is the stance one takes that is usually founded on his or her underlying interests.

Reservation point is the “bottom line” or least favorable option or offer you will accept.

Zone of Possible Agreement (ZOPA): The “bargaining range” defined as the overlapping (common) area of each party’s aspiration point and reservation point. No overlap, no ZOPA.
