Seriously, just purchase a pistol, legally or illegally, and carry it around with you when visiting places where you don't feel safe. You are probably a white male living in suburbia, and as such are at minimal risk to be "frisked" (i.e. searched at random by police), which means that you've got minimal need for concern regarding landing in the slammer in any other event than that one robbery attempt gone wrong where you shoot the aggressor, successfully defend yourself in court and only get fucked on the gun charges - which results in minimal jailtime, thanks to your socialist justice system that favorises law breakers and fucks law-abiding people in the ass.

This line of thinking is what fucked Europe up a long time ago. The natural right of self-defense and self-preservation is in no way dependent on statistics; living in a "safe" country won't save you on that rainy day when you do indeed end up the victim of a violent crime. Unless you can, with absolute certainty, say that violence does not exist in any shape or form in your country, then carrying a firearm for the purpose of defending yourself is a valid, solid and morally acceptable argument.
Criminals in Germany have the upper hand in nearly every possible scenario because of mongs like yourself, who do not acknowledge the pre-emptive measures needed to successfully act in defense of one's liberty, property or life.
The power of precognition is the only thing that eventually negates the need for a right to bear arms, but even then only when applied to everyday security of the person. Weigh your risk of a run-in with the cops against your risk of a run-in with a (ridiculously rare) crazed murderer or a more common mugger, and the consequences of each. "Here's my wallet" is your best defense in the last case. You have no practical defense in the first case other than hopeful avoidance. There are plenty of things out of your control that could potentially cause contact with police, and even more things that could cause contact with people who would report you to the police. In the crazed murderer case, a gun is only occasionally an effective defensive weapon (your bullet incapacitates criminal before criminal kills you); Training can raise this chance, but it's never anywhere near 100%, and is often below the odds that "running away as fast as possible" net you. In Germany, you will be the target of a criminal probe if you successfully defend yourself against either class of criminal. It will likely do you more damage than losing your wallet to a mugger.
While most of Germany's criminal statutes are much narrower than in the US and difficult to compare directly, their homicide rate is about 0.8/100k compared to 4.8/100k in the US.
We had a British anon las week asking the same stuff, he was in worse situation than you since he has health problems. You should carry stuff like padlock, climbing gear, working tools, a pupper, large bolts, steel pens, gloves, steeltoed boots, construction helmet, kitchen forks, etc etc. Just look at what you have inside your home and see if it gets you a "tactical" advantage during a fight ir some attack against you, then just pick something that you can carry with a lawful reason.
Also, probably the most important, GET FUCKING FIT. Being strong able to stand your ground and fight is nice and you should train it, but being also able to run fast as Bolt if the situation arises is nothing to feel ashamed for, it can save your life.
Last resort, move if you feel that your life is somehow at risk.

Do NOT carry a knife for self defense. There are all sorts of good reasons to have a knife on your person, but self defense is just foolish; to use it your assailant will be in range to damage you. I highly recommend a very solid cane.
