How did you know? That's exactly the plan
>>

Damnit... I know it's fucking retarded. I just feel like I need a reliable, and accurate rifle. What would you recommend that goes really far?

I think if firing $5 bills out of a gun is your thing .338 lapua is the way to go.
>>
>>29929851
300 win mag, I got one with a trash 4x scope that I really like for 250 bucks in VA.

My friend owns this exact gun. (Savage 110 BA.) He has some aftermarket stuff on it, I know he has a bolt but i'm not sure what else. He likes it a lot.

That said, he already has guns to fill pretty much every other niche, and bought the .338 because he has a boner for snipers and long range shooting and because he's into handloading.

Look into the entry level Savage 110 in .338 Lapua. My local shop has them stocked for $999 brand new. It still an awesome rifle and can be changed and upgraded as your needs and wants change.

what are you thinking in terms of range? If you're thinking about shooting out to a mile and beyond, it's going to cost you money and time.
Getting a .338 isn't going to give you magical abilities to shoot well long range. It just gives you the tools, everything else is all on you and your wallet.

You know I was like you once but after shooting some 54r, it made me think of how recoil effects accuracy. then I looked into .270win, .300win, and perhaps .243win as platforms for overall accuracy and reliability at intended ranges. I'm probably not going to shoot more than 1500 meters, and simulation states that it's not even worth it to shoot and hit anything more than 1km by how long it would take to zero for that range. What I understand is accuracy is completely determined by control-ability, and having an overkill round without proper features of recoil dampening will effect accuracy the moment the primer is punctured.

In the end I never really needed .338LM, especially when there has 'not' been any semiautomatic rifles (the charm) that could handle the round during fouling and not having the receiver explode if gas is set wrong.

>6.5 mememore

When Grendel is objectively better.
>>
>>29931524
In a semi-auto yes. But Creedmoor ballistics blow Grendel out of the fucking water. This is objective fact.
>>
>>29929687
the Savage 110 BA is a great gun, go ahead

>>29929706
well why the hell not ?
elephants are dangerous animals

>>29929708
>>29930341

there is 2$ ammo out there as well like PPU
and reloaded you can cut it down real good

>>29929851
the 110 BA is fine
>>
>>29931527
But a .243 blows both of them out, and it never made any sense why 6.5creed was the most in cost of the category.

Because 6.5 creedmore is a brand name bullet from Hordany, aka the tacticool #1 ammo, no objections, would feature in a test/10, most social media shilled high performance ammunition manufacturer. In truth their bullets are not that better in difference for the price when compared to the competition. In relation, that is probably why I don't choose Winchester, over Federal Premium anymore.

>>29931557
Yes, and only has about 2000 round barrel life.
>>
Do it.
I bought a barrett 98b and just use it to shoot targets.
Top fun.
>>
>>29931657
did you buy the 98b for the meme or why spend that dosh ?
>>
>>29931657
I met a bloke down at the range once who had just bought a Barrett 98B in 300 Win Mag.

I was just casually chatting with him as we walked down range and when we got to 100 meters I could see he was doing pretty fucking badly. Turns out he was trying to zero it but didn't really now how as it was his first rifle.

So myself being a helpful anon offered him my services as someone who knows what they are doing, got it zeroed in 3 shots fired a few more to confirm and then put a 5 round group down to show him how well his new rifle could shoot.

Slightly jelly he could afford to drop nearly 10K all up on his first rifle.

often people that have no clue about guns spent tremendous amounts of money because someone or something told them to get that specific thing

and because they are lacking experience they cannot tell when somebody is feeding them bullshit or halftrue information

why do so many new hunters use calibers way overpowered and expensive for small game ?
because somebody else told them wrongly to get XYZ

with the tactical things it's mostly movies and videogames that feed people their need of stupidity
>>
>>29931519
People that can afford 338s can afford glass with matched turrets, no need to zero when you change range
>>
>>29931663
I bought it simply because I liked the look of it.
The fact its also loud as fuck is just a bonus.
