Ranges are intolerable. When I moved from basedwoods western Colorado to further from basedwoods western Washington I just started driving a fucking hour to woods to shoot. Ranges are for cucks
>>
My pistol range won't rent to singles unless they're members who've been there multiple times. It's been a few years, but when I got my membership I had to sign up, shoot with a friend for the day, and then the next time I came back I was allowed to rent on my own. (I was noguns at the time BTW, and a lot of why I got the membership was because it included free rentals, so I could try a shitload of guns to see what I wanted to buy.)

They had a whole bunch of rental gun suicides back in the early-mid '00s, so I guess that's why they were pretty strict about it.

They don't give a fuck about people with their own guns, though.

I dunno, my range has a really nice shotgun set up. You pay for a clay token (and range fee if you don't have a membership) put the token in a machine, the machine turns on the system. From there you walk out to one of 5 stations that house a wirelessly connected microphone. Yell at the microphone and the thrower throws a clay. You can have up to 5 people going at once.

>>29908758
Only one store in my area rents, and they actually had a suicide last month. My friends and I agreed it was probably due to the shitty service. That being said, a newer (as in less than 2 years old) store is planning to move locations and rent post 86 MGs in the future. They're a much smaller store but they aren't entirely fudd like one other store, haven't had someone commit suicide like the other one, and aren't Ranch and Home either. I just hope that once they move they'll expand out of the tactical market for a wider variety.
>>
>>29908788
well ok
>>
>>29908844
And in doing so you landed dubs.

Fuckin' witnessed.
>>
My range enacted this policy for singles who rent and don't have their own guns (in NJ, that means they don't have a firearms ID card or something along that lines).
Reasoning is cause two people in a month committed suicide on the range so they had good reason. I still go alone with my own funs all the time. It's assumed I'm not going to the range to kill myself if I can do it at home whenever I want.

>>
Protip that is for people who don't own guns and want to rent

As someone who shoots at 2 ranges where people have an heroed in he last ~10 years I am ok with it
>>
>>29908886
I thought this was relatively common for rentals.

No singles for BYOG is retarded.
>>
>>29908886
It's just for renting. Any range that starts turning away gun owners and LEOs will be closing before the end of the year.
>>
>>29908863
My rental range is pretty un-fuddyl, but it's probably because they're in the middle of a major metro area, and half of their clientele are cops from the local PD. (It's a small, relatively wealthy city in the middle of a much bigger and poorer one, and the department overall is pretty tacticool and the cops who join it are pretty /k/.)
>>
>>29908886
I haven't heard of that. Local range has a no singles policy for rentals after some people an heroed, but if you bring your own gun you're fine.

ranges that take up that policy have had a lot of OR fear suicidal people.
Usually those ranges allow you to rent or shoot if you already own a gun so it isn't $10+ammo cost for easy suicide gun vs hundreds.

I have a range 15 minutes from me, but I never use it. Last time I went, I brought both my AR and my AK to make sure their 100 yard zero was still on.

"You shooting 7.62x39? Can't let you on the 100 yard range unless it's coming out of an AR. AKs are just to inaccurate to get on paper at that range."

And so now I drive 40 minutes instead, and smile approvingly when the idiot range gets flooded every time it rains here.

What the French anon is describing sounds a bit like the shooting club scene in parts of the US.
I don't think it's intentional, it's just that those clubs & competitive shooters can get autistic and cliquish.

We're just lucky in the US that we get start shooting without having to satisfy some autistic competition scene.

Not that first anon, but probably. That's why ranges have a no singles policy for renters, they don't want people using their facility as a futurama-esque suicide booth. If you own your own guns, you wouldn't travel to a range when you could off yourself in the comfort of your own bathtub, and if you're there with someone else, it's unlikely that the two of you have a suicide pact going.
Honestly, I feel like it's a liability thing. Ranges are still businesses, and they do have to take certain steps to legally protect themselves.
>>
>>29909085
I'm not OP, but I got in the thread bec. I'd never heard about a no singles policy. I get it now, never really thought about people killin themselves with rental guns. I get it now though. Makes sense. I always shot at my farm, or a range with my own guns. Had never even heard about it before.

It simply sucks from a business/employee standpoint to have someone die violently at your family-friendly business and have to close the range and clean up all brain and bone matter, and then deal with the PSTD'd customers and employees. To say it's bad for business would be an understatement.
IIRC it happened multiple times at a range in Florida.
>>
>>29911132
Does it happen often? Probably not. One anon in this thread mentioned it happening twice in a year at one place though, so I suppose the possibility is there. And it's really up to the discretion of the range. Some places have a "singles must bring own guns" policy, while others don't.

>I sat in the parking lot for an hour last time i went to the range, my cousin was suppose to meet me but never showed up.
>I finally figured he was never showing and shot by myself for an hour.

I don't see the appeal of designated shooting ranges. Of course if that's your only option then so be it.

Why didn't you just text him after 15 minutes of waiting that you were starting without him? Why not just call him instead of waiting for an hour? What the fuck am I reading?

My WMA (what it's called in Georgia) range isn't horrible but it has fucking range officers nowadays. Two of them are decent, one is a goddamned cunt but I know which days he doesn't work. My LGS is expanding and they're going to have an indoor range soon, so I'll probably use that more often because even though it'll cost cash, it'll be closer to my house by a decent bit.

Happened at a place in Atlanta area earlier this year, it happens here and there.

Probably will never happen in a small town range. Keep in mind that the one in Atlanta gets a lot of traffic and I think this is only the second time it's ever happened.

I guess if you're just going out to see what you can shoot, or only want to have one gun that works.

i did call him he wouldn't pick up, tried messaging him and still no luck. Called his brother make sure he didn't get drunk or some other form of fucked up. nope he was just an asshole. ill take my other cousin next time. I would take one of my friends but they are either out of state for college or they joined the military.

Happened to me the week after Sandy hook, except the Fulkerson said they weren't renting till after. Xmas. His coworker just handed a couple a basket of two rented handguns, bullets eyes and ears. At least be honest!
I drove to another range and shot a rented Walther p22. Thus I started my new hobby.

Norcal here, only one range close to where I am and it's got a FUDD vibe to it. Last time I was there the no-singles policy only applied to renting if you didn't bring your own guns. What kills me is the "1 round every 2 secs" type of shit. Like I get it, people need to not be retards but that should be up to the RO. Employees are pretty nice though. My only complaint is it's a pistol range so not only is my 30-06 verboten but I got pay $1 a round for frangible 5.56.

They did start cleaning the place a bit more after a fire started while I was reloading a mag. This is why we don't use steel bullets or bullets that contain steel indoors.

I just go to the range way at night an hour before they close.

I'm pretty sure the employees think I'm nuts anyway.

I never understood this. I live in new york and my range has none of these rules. Where the fuck are you worth a range that had rules like that. Please say California or Jersey i don't think i can handle anywhere else.

When it comes to a lot of gun ranges that rent guns, not allowing single people to rent guns makes sense. Some will even take down two "best people to call" on the application, and give them a ring before renting a gun to someone.

If you have any idea how often people actually blow their brains out in a gun range, and the amount of liability/insurance is involved with running a multimillion dollar facility, you would understand. When it comes to someone killing themselves in a gun range, it isn't really a matter of if, it's more of a when.

Hell, they are starting to build ranges with quick ways to segment off areas once somebody does do it.

NJ fag here and you're allowed to do holster draws at every range i've ever been to. You need to take an additional safety course if you're not a LEO but only once, then they mark your port with a red tag anytime you want to and you're good to go.
