There are plenty of LEOs that have flashlights and/or lasers on their handguns. But it really depends on what department they are from

I believe in most southern and/or midwest/west police departments, officers can do whatever they want. But in a lot of big cities, officiers are not allowed to modify their service pistols.
On a side tangent
I know in germany, citizens are not allowed to attach lasers to pistols, not sure if that applies to their officers

this, so fucking much. Why is it my soon-to-be-ex always starts bitching at me because i catch something about a tv show that bothers me. It brings me out of the story, and makes me realize how little effort the studio put into the show.

this triggers me too, and it happens in multi million dollar production films too. you would think they would at least hire a firearms expert to go along with all the martial arts experts they hire for the fight scenes . someone who would tell the director simple things like, a single action gun needs its hammer back in scenes, and theres only so many times you can cock a gun before you run out of the live ammo youve been cycling

Theres a local singer here who just released a music video where he's in the army running around with uniforms all dicked up getting into "firefights" with a random assortment of weapons like glocks and mossberg 500 mis matching uniforms, no body armor no Kevlars some of them don't even have blouses on just skivy shirts, one dude has a white the shirt and unbloused camouflage pants. Nobody's got a shave or haircut and the main dude has his sleeves rolled up. At the end he jumps on a ww2 stick grenade and dies. They never show the enemy at all its just a squad of retards running around doing tactical rolls and pointing guns into the distance while mexican music plays. The sad thing is were 5 minutes from a marine base and also I know the guys brother is in the army, he couldn't bother making a 5 minute call to smooth some of the details

if they want the tense moment with the 1911, flipping off the slide safety would do just as well.
but if you need that hammer cock, just have the bad guy use a fucking dirty harry revolver.

Yeah; but you're average idiot film goes wouldn't understand it. The hammer is more obvious to them because if it works on a revolver than all guns must work that way.

Ok, I've been wondering about Crimson Tide. I don't know if this is inaccurate or not, so I'm asking, not bitching.

The movie has both 1911s and M9s (actually 92FS as stand-ins according to imfdb, but that doesn't bother me that much) on the submarine. The movie was released and presumably takes place in 1995, a decade after we adopted the M9 as the standard service pistol.

I'm sure there was a transition period during which both were used, but did it go out as far as 1995? If not, were certain officers allowed to use the 1911 at their discretion?

>>29908231
Yeah don't get me wrong, I love the films, too. This stuff doesn't actually bother me enough to not enjoy a movie or tv show unless it's extremely bad. I can suspend my weapons autism long enough to enjoy it.

Am I the only one who thinks this might actually work, if the person you're interrogating can't see the hammer/is too stressed to realize he was just threatened with an uncocked single action?

I'm always amused by the magic that they seem to think crime scene ballistics are capable of.

I mean realistically unless the criminal is leaving shell casings with prints on them the cops are only going to know what caliber they were using, and if it was a hollow point.

Like on Better Call Saul, Mike was buying a black market rifle with the serial numbers shaved off in order to ice Tio and to your average viewer I'm sure it made sense; but to me I'm thinking......"What the fuck does he need that for? Is he going to leave the gun at the scene? Isn't it a bigger risk to have that gun on him than to just carry a hunting rifle?

I mean hell its a bolt action, so he doesn't even need to worry about the brass getting left behind.

Maybe its a case of reality imitating fiction, like in that Tina Fey movie where the guy freaks out when the bad guy aims his gun sideways.
> He's holding it sideways, that's a killshot!!!!

Or maybe the guy doesn't know shit about guns and is intimidated by the sound of the hammer being cocked, like that LEO that said he searched a back yard at night and racked his shotgun. He willfully ejected a perfectly good shell, but the bad guy came out of the bushes and surrendered.

Oh yeah. We had 1911s floating around our armory at Gordon until the late 90's. It's not like we were getting huge crates of replacement guns every time a new program goes through. Replacement takes time, and effort, to fill those big ass orders, and they can only manufacture so many at once for mil contracts. Look how long it took the Army to ditch the M-16 in favor of the M4, and those were guns they already HAD.

Yeah, he was also on the Army polo team. He was really bummed when the Army got rid of their stables.

You need at least 4 dedicated polo horses per player in order to play polo (the horses get tired and need to sub out) and he was never rich enough to afford that.

Still, it was fun while it lasted.

Because its less risky to just keep a legal gun then to leave an illegal gun that could have fingerprints or DNA behind or which could conceivably be tracked back to your arms dealer who you would then have to trust not to narc on you.

Lets say he just buys a hunting rifle, puts one round of .308 through Tio's skull and then takes it home. The cops come and find he legally owns a hunting rifle. So what?

Yeah, and "the gun expert" offers him a .50 cal and an AR-15 with a low magnification scope as his alternatives for sniping one guy.

They wanted to establish Mike as being pragmatic no nonsense, and having a Vietnam background by having him pick the M40A1 which is a good bit of character building; but everything around it is ridiculous.

He has little reason to need a black market gun considering what his plan is and the alternatives offered him are odd (the AR), bordering on ridiculous (the .50 cal).

A shame too since as this anon pointed out

It's more or less horseshit. You can try but barring some really fucked up markings identifying one glock barrel from another using just fired projectiles is pretty hard. That's fair. Still, it seems like the riskiest part of his plan comes right after he kills the guy -- when either the cops or the other bad guys might catch him on the road, having a rifle of any kind on him would be super incriminating. In that context, it made sense to me that he'd want to find the best way to ditch the gun ASAP (and given his cop background, that he'd know how to avoid leaving fingerprints/DNA.)

I don't know if it justifies the much greater time and expense, but it seems like his plan does involve a certain amount less risk than just using a normal hunting rifle...

I wouldn't doubt it. Dumb executives really gutted the movie because they didn't realize a Rated-R comic book movie would do so well. They also cut a LOT of improv jokes from the movie because they were "too offensive" as well. A lot of the shit done in the movie was improv by Ryan Reynolds.

Overall, it's a great movie... I'd definitely watch it a third time.

If you can MOVE your thumb without pain then you are probably ok and it just needs some strength. Tylenol can help, icy hot may soothe it too if you are feeling pain. If it hurts like a bitch just to touch then you may have broken something.

If you have discomfort or mild pain, maybe wait another week then try putting some stress on it (like a squish ball or something) to build up some strength. If it doesn't hurt now then some light activity may help. Piano, guitar, if you don't play an instrument get some playdoh and roll it around (no joke, dicking with play doh involves a wide range of motions and muscles). In general you don't want to stress an injured joint so much it hurts, because you can make it worse

Mobile posters are, as usual, cancer

You don't fall over after being shot because the kinetic energy knocks you over, you fall over because it's a fucking painful experience.

If someone's shooting you and you're wearing Kevlar it still feels like someone's taking a hammer and hitting you as hard as they can manage. You can and will lose ribs, get the wind knocked out of you, etc.

It takes a higher energy round to fuck you up when you're wearing plate, yes, because the energy is spread out over the area of the plate, but that doesn't mean .30-06 isn't going to give you a bad day even if it doesn't go through.

That guy in your video gets away with it because he's wearing a heavy as fuck plate that eats all the momentum of the round for him, and he's being shot with either an 7.62x39 or 5.45. They also aren't shooting him repeatedly as fast as the gun can manage
>>
>>29907637
Eh, it's usually because they're looking for a reason to put the guy away for near the rest of his life, seeing as they know that he's a serial killer or a famous bank robber or something, but have no proof to any of it connected to him
They're going to push for the maximum penalty

most western movies suck shit at fight scenes complete with blurry action quick cuts and closeups, dunno what 'experts' they use. the only movie I saw recently that got the martial arts right was John Wick.

point is that movies sell memes, not reality. it's useless getting angry about the fact that they don't portray XYZ science/tech/skill/history correctly, because most people don't care and they know it.

Depends on the department.

Here, it is literally a state law that all LEO weapons be equipped with a white light. County carries the Sig 229 with a TLR1 on it and State carries the Glock 22 with a TLR3. City allows personal sidearms as long as they're 9mm, .40, or .357sig, but the majority of them carry either a Sig P226 or P229 simply because they're good and available cheaply here (P226 SRT red label is cheaper than a blue-label Glock 17).

Ballistics is horse shit.
Here in Maryland I got two free with my 1911 since they agreed with the fact its pointless.
Still keeping them in the baggie in case I go to another state.

Its the same with fingerprints, one in a million chance of match with a perfect one.
We're 300 million in country and 8 billion for the world.
Most prints are actually a small trapezoid torward the tip of the finger when taken.
Very hard to actually day it it is you from that, hence the giant backlog in the system.

I on the other hand am an easy match due to taking an axe to an index finger when I was a whee babe and believing my sister.

Simply put, most all of the evidence techniques in practice can't pass Frye just as with polygraphs.

Its mere inertia and immediate cessation of funding if you question that keeps it going.

>>
>Last US destroyer in world plagued by viral outbreak
>Ship has SEAL team
>Commander of ship wants to go out and put himself in harms way and go out on missions

>Crime scene techs carry guns and lead police raids
>Crime scene techs pursue, arrest, and interrogate suspects
>Every gun is registered and needs a permit in fucking Florida and Nevada
>Hit up alphabet agencies for ballistic comparisons, results are back after lunch
Hell why do we even need detectives? Apparently techs do their entire job
