I had one on my work M4. Did one reflexive fire range with it and gave it away. The square chunk of plastic that clamps on to the rail forces you to hold your hand further down on the grip, which is very uncomfortable and not as controllable. If you want a very grip, I suggest the magpul one.

If there's anyone new to the thread (who the hell am I kidding, though?) who didn't weigh in on this, but knows about them, is this a good option for a fixed power, compact, magnified optic on a budget?

>>
>>29903490
I have an AR and I bought it somewhat piecemeal, but these are the costs of the basic parts to get a decent AR that runs:
>PSA "blem" complete lower:
$130
>PSA CHF 16" carbine complete upper with "machine gun steel" barrel:
$300
>PSA premium bcg:
$90
>Magpul rear flip up sight:
$45
>Magpul pmag:
$10

>Total
$575

You could easily save money on the upper by getting one of PSA's "Freedom" uppers which have non-chrome-plated barrels but are otherwise supposed to be good quality. There are also deals on complete rifles made by Ruger and PSA which are supposed to be fine.

Repostan raifu.

Yesterdays range day update:

>80 flawless rounds through AR-10.
>At ~140 rounds total round count now.
>Considering heavier buffer or spring to reduce recoil impulse.
>Scope mount issue. Don't buy $100 mounts boys.

>150 rounds through SCAR
>Another flawless performance from the Belgian master race.

>120 rounds through Sig 516 upper on DD lower.
>At ~600 total round count now through upper.
>Zero signs of carrier tilt or cam pin wear.

All in all, a good day. The AR500 torso has been slammed with around 600 rounds of 62gr green tip now and is holding up pretty well. It's pock marked like crazy, but nothing deeper than ~1/8" on a 1/2" plate. Just about out of M855 now anyway, so it shouldn't get too beat up from here out.

After owning a Vortex Viper PST, Trijicon Accupower and looking through a Trijicon Accupoint and Vortex Strike Eagle, I'd have to say I much preferred the Viper with the TMCQ reticle. That big black segmented circle practically allowed me to do BAC without illumination, and though I would have preferred mil- dots as opposed to mil hash for ranging, I was still able to consistently get first round hits at 585 yards on a 32" steel plate almost every time. Now I have the Accupower, and i wish I would have kept the Vortex purely for that reticle.
>>

>firing two shots and then running into the next county

>>
>>29903794

Nah, just shot my steel target standing / prone. Still had a great time. Swapped the red dot over to the SCAR, slapped my spare ACOG on the 516, and zero'd the optic on the .308 only to realize I'll have to do it over again.

Only gun I brought and didn't have never, ever had to fuck with was my CZ527 Carbine. 80 perfect rounds of satisfying fun.

>>29903806

308 AR's can fulfill a lot of different roles. I had a hard time choosing an optic too for that very reason. Ended up putting that Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 w/ TMR reticle on it because it was a good balance. On 3x with the illumination on it can be used both eyes open a lot like an ACOG, and 9x is enough for just about anything the rifle will do.

Eventually I'd like to put a Mark 6 3-18 on it, but that's down the road a ways. Plus, the gun is heavy enough as is.

However, it's nothing like either of my service rifles and so I'm not sure how good of an idea it is to train on it. I might be better off with something closer to my nigger-rigged abominations.
>>
>>29903965
They're shit and should be avoided.

They finish their barrels before installing the barrel extension, are all over the place on torque, and there've been some issues with improperly timed barrels/extensions. These issues have led to barrel extensions coming loose. So far not while shooting, but it's a potentially unsafe setup that they refuse to fix even though they've publicly acknowledged it as an issue.

Negatory. If I'm in a firefight it means that shit has hit the fan and I'm either in the Middle East / Africa fighting shit skins or SHTF of the maximum magnitude has finally happened. Either way, I'm not fighting a professional army the fewer hostiles roaming around, the higher my chances of survival.

I was going to pass on the green tip meme this time and just shoot some 55gr, but we take turns buying 1k rounds and she found a sale somewhere for $0.30/rd for 1200.

That's comparable to steel cased pricing, and while I don't mind shooting bimetal jacket out of my AR, replacement barrels are cheap and plentiful. Her SCAR on the other hand is a different matter. When a new barrel assembly costs $1000+ you might as well just shoot brass case with real copper jackets.

I would sell mine and trade out, but I have less than $1200 in the TWO TA31's I have now, and they're both red chevrons, so it makes more sense to keep them and they're still great.

It's weird though, for the 1x category, people are voting for the cheapest option; while for the variable category, they are going for a split between most expensive AND least expensive.
>>
>>29904492

People are idiots. Don't let the masses decide what you buy. Get the Aimpoint Micro or a Leupold 1-4 30mm if you're too cheap to buy an ACOG.
>>
>>29904492
The PRO is inferior to the T2 or CompM4S. Disregard all the poorfags who voted for it. You should've put a poorfag-special option on there like a TRS25 or MD-ADS just to filter all the poors and retards.

Why not go with an ACOG like me?

Because shitty eye relief and lack of lower magnification.
>>
>>29903822
Didn't know the military was using the TRS25 dot....
>>
>>29904546

If you've ever used an ACOG you would recognize that the lack of lower magnification isn't an issue.

Neither is the eye relief if you have your gun set up right.
>>
>>29904527
I did consider it. I mean, if I look long enough you can find them for 900-1000 used... but Honestly the idea of a fixed power doesnt appeal to me.

Plus, on most of them the eye relief is pretty unforgiving, so I would probably go with the 3.5x, but even still.

With the accupoint, I get a 1x with reasonable eye relief, and when I need I can push out to 4x with subpar eye relief.

Used one in the Army. Eye relief is absolutely an issue unless you're aware you're getting an ACOG well ahead of actually building the rifle. The vast majority of backup rear sights don't fit under it.

Also, there were plenty of times I wished for a red dot or low-power variable overseas. ACOGs are good, but they're definitely not the be-all, end-all of AR optics. Especially for civilian usage.
>>
I've use the Comp M4S to 300m no problem. In fact, it was surprisingly easy for a 10" barrel.

>Vast majority of BUIS don't fit.

That's funny, both my Troys and MBUS PRO fit no problem. So did my regular MBUS when I had them.

At any rate, I never said it was the end all be all, but it's problems are grossly overstated by most people. A top shelf 1-4 will still be better in some regards, as will a top shelf red dot. The ACOG sits comfortably right in the middle.

>>

It's too crowded.
>>
>>29904641
I don't think it sits in the middle, I think it is an excellent piece of glass for the right circumstances.

My school of thought is that for my uses, a 1x is the most useful. The only reason I'm considering the variable 1-4x options, is that they seem to be the best jack of all trades that don't break the bank by piggybacking optics.

If I was out hunting hogs on a ranch somewhere, I would almost certainly get an ACOG.
>>

Matechs don't fit (at least with the standard mount, there's a reason QD mounts like the Larue and ARMS raise it an eighth of an inch or more and why the Army, which uses Matechs and doesn't use QD mounts, makes you take your rear sight off). MBUS plastics don't fit. The tritium Troys don't fit. The pre-Micro KAC's fit but were long enough it fucked the eye relief unless you had the stock collapsed enough the charging handle was digging into your upper lip.

Just so you know, the KX3 weighs a fuckton. Thing's gonna be decently front heavy. I would personally do the KAK flash can, they work the same (despite being a 1-piece design) and weigh less, as well as being about $100 cheaper. Despite being aluminum they seem to last pretty fucking well.

I don't personally care for the MOE SL stock. Not saying it's not good, but I prefer the ACS-L or B5 SOPMOD.

Good rail. I'd go Mlok, it's gaining ground over Keymod as well as providing marginally better cooling and being a tad bit sturdier.

Troll around eBay for used Troy HK-style sights. They're excellent (IMO the best front sight design), usually around $60-70, and you're not actually giving Troy any money if you're one of those guys that has complaints against the company.

In all honesty ballistic improvements on 9mm are akin to polishing turds. The main benefit of a 9mm SBR is a dramatic improvement in accuracy and controllability in rapid fire over a pistol.

Suppressor will be soon, and the shorter barrel is something I'll probably pick up once the suppressor gets here. With any luck, I can just put the shorter barrel in, still use the 9" handguard, and I can fit the suppressor down into the handguard.

>>29904885
Yeah, you really start dropping off on returns past about 8" but it really dives at 10". I'll probably eventually build a 7 or 8" 9mm upper for my SBR at some point. Though with a 7" upper I'd be a little short on forend. I like to have a decent grip out there.

Since I've been there a little over 14 months I'd be pretty close to $20 an hour.

Military longevity retirement plus VA 100% disability plus CRSC=over $4500/month, most of which is tax free.

I work just because I'd be bored fucking stiff otherwise, and I do actually like my job (most days).
