sks general: innawoods edition

Was also planning on dropping my gun into a fiberglass jungle stock. Does anyone have any experience with the jungle stocks? Did you have to do any fitting for yours?

The one problem with my gun is that it's a pain in the fucking ass to get the trigger group to snap back into the receiver bracket. I'm wondering if it's just poor stock fitting or what.

How much heavier is the yugo from something like a type 56? Is it really that noticeable, or am I just a pussy?
>>
>>29896502
My m59 (no made stuff) is still significantly heavier than the commercial chink I used to have.
>>
What's the best type of scope mount? Receiver cover mounted, side mounted, forward mounted?

I don't have the mount on the side of my Yugo so would I need to take it to a gun smith for him to install the right mounting holes?

What magwell is that?

What'd you do to mount that heat shield
>>
>>29897052
Russian sks in a chinese stock rigged with a butler creek folder. Ak74 style brake threaded on muzzle, cheese grater heatshield, POSP 4x24 scope, and a magazine adapter that lets me use 7.62x39 stanag magazines.
>>
>>29897052
Shut the fuck up.

>>29897015
>Soviet Optic
>SVT like heat shield
>74 Muzzle break
>wire stock slanted like the original AK47
Awesome

>grip
>mag holder
Needs improvement. Look into removing it and fixing the wire stock or adding soviet style pistol grips on it. If you were going for "Komrade lets deck out this surplus SKS because its 1965" then you are spot on, looks like a soviet upgraded SKS for elite troops using parts from other weapons. Its not a tactical piece of shit like other SKS's.
>>
>>29897118
It's one of the ones that converts it to take AR 7.62x39 mags. They suck.
>>
>>29897118

I punched out the retaining pin in the heatshield, pulled the wood off and put the vented one on.

>>
>>29897158
Its funny because thats almost exactly what I was going for. A rifle used by a partisan fighter in an eastern european shithole. I may figure out how to put AK grips on someday.
>>
>>29896502
its much heavier, very noticeable. stock is thicker, barrel is longer, the extra weight from the grenade sights makes a big difference. bigger bayonet too.
>>
>>29897158
>Shut the fuck up.

Wooahhh slow down there, buckaroo.

It's awesome, if only we had more people like you instead shit head bubbas ruining a rifle for tacticool purposes instead of modding one to still have the original feel/culture of the gun but also making a new gun altogether.

I just wanted my legal 10 rounds man. Blame cucknadian gun laws. I would be perfectly happy with a 10 round original mag, but NOPE... a 10 round rifle magazine is a danger to the canadian public safety. Please annex us

>>
>>29897386
Semi automatic centerfire rifles are limited to 5 rounds, pistol magazines are limited to 10 rounds. The AR magazines im using are for a 7.62 XCR "pistol". Because the magazines are labelled pistol, I can have a legal 10 rounds of 7.62x39
>>
>>29897386
They rape 1956 surplus as soon as it clears customs. Big-ass rivet or pin gets driven or welded through the mag, limiting the capacity permanently to 5. Only applies to semi-auto rifles (minus the M1 Garand, it gets to stay at 8)

>>

The jungle stocks are not military surplus. They are shitty molded plastic that China produced to repackage the SKS to make it sound like there were a variety of options available. I would almost guarantee that you will be cutting and filing that thing to make it fit your Yugo.

Just stay with the original wood.

>>29900884
Is that a polymer or wood stock?
>>
>>29896975
sks isn't worth putting a scope on. If you want something decent, put on some tech sights with a crosshair front sight post
>>

Yea that sounds like a great idea
>>

Just curious. My local shop had a Romanian sitting in a Chinese jungle stock. Thought it might be the same one.

>>29902331
The later yugos had night sight like what you are describing. You may be able to find and fit their illuminated rear sights to your gun.

>>
>>29902530
Well, basically laminate. Somewhere between laminate and shellac.
>>
>>29902530

Looks good man. I like the worn appearance. I have two 1954 Tula's but they aren't the kind of rifle that I would bang around or take innawoods. I've also got a Yugo m59 but it shoots left. Not sure I could use it past 100 yards and effectively hit anything. The Russians are dead on though.
>>
What is the best brand of SKS?
>>
>>29902960
Chinese. Best nation make best gun
>>
>>29902930
Yeah, the worn finish makes for a good look. The barrel is fantastic, too. I also really like the relative rarity of the Romanian rifles.

I'd like to get a Russian one of these days. There are other things that take financial precedence for now, though. Perhaps one day.

Disregard that guide. You aren't going to find East German or Polish sks's for sale and if you do it's not worth the price as a shooter. Russians are the best in terms of quality and appearance. Worth 600 and up these days. Early Chinese, then yugos, then late Chinese. People will argue the early Chinese vs Yugo because the yugos are better constructed but the Chinese have chrome bores. Be prepared to spend at least 400 for anything that's not Russian.

That's all you really need to worry about. Consult the info graphic for information about identifying them.
>>
>>29903863
Poor Rommy's. Always getting overlooked even though they're just at good as the Russian.

Though they're probably pretty expensive now. I haven't seen one for sale in an age.

Often they slap a pin under the follower, preventing it from going down all the way, but it doesn't affect the looks. Easily dremeled off.

take the stock off and look at the whole side of the rifle then compare it to the other side. it's possible the receiver was scrubbed.

commercial variants will have a short gas tube and most often have a special designation like SKSS. you either have a scrubbed receiver or an oddball.
>>
>>29904744
What kind of mount/optic is that? I kinda wanna find another Mohawk SVT sporter and slap one on to make a sexy bastard syrup SVD-ish gun.
>>
>>29906731
whole side of the receiver*

if it was scrubbed you can usually tell the difference between the two sides.
>>
>>29906742
So if it were scrubbed I wouldn't be able to tell where it came from?
>>
>>29906775
that's meaningless anyway since the only factory that can be dated is 26. so if your rifle has a factory code other than 26 it doesn't tell you any more information about the rifle.

only way to somewhat date it then is the by barrel lug. long lug = early production, short = mid, pinned/no lug = late production.
