Hey /k/ I have been wanting to buy a nice rifle for under $500 for my first gun but I'm not sure what to get. What do you guys suggest?

what will you use the rifle for?

do you have experience with firearms?

No.1 Mk III*
No. 4 Mk1*

M27/47

You may be able to find some M1917s for under 500 and if you do buy it.

Buy a Savage Axis 308 or an AR-15 anon (PSA is your friend for getting below $500)
>>

Build a PSA AR and slap MBUS on it. This can be done for $500 if you wait for the right sales/use spare parts you/your friends have

Honestly, you can't go wrong with a karabiner.
I got mine in Argentina for around 120 Pesos, and it even included a bayonet.

Don't be a same fag with an AR OP. Go milsup or classic 10/22.

I am living in EU nanny state governed by safety fetishists.
You must pass 300 tests to get a gun ownership, and even then you are not allowed to shoot unless life is in danger and even then you have to shoot in air first then in air again then in leg and no higher than that.
I want to get something soviet tier. Cheap, but working (ak47 or someshit). I won't use it, but I will be glad to know I have it in case shit goes down, I want to have some strength on my own.
How do I go down with this shit in my situation?

Go to Walmart and buy a savage axis or a Remington 700. Both come with a scope and come in many differant modern calibers.
That being said k31 is nice but ammo is hard to get. (Impossible in New York)
Sks is good
M44
Depends what your using it for

A M1917 under $500 would be impressive as they are pretty hard to come by here in the first place, at least here in PA

>>
>>29896149
Might be able to get an older mini 14 for ~$500. They have a reasonable amount of aftermarket parts if you want tacticool shit. Plus fire the same round as the AR-15s. Just be wary of 90s and late 80s models.
>>
>>29895643
Almost all milsurp bolt actions, almost all .22 rifles, an sks and a couple other milsurp semis, a shitload of new production .308 bolt actions, a poorfag AR, etc, etc.

We could be a lot more helpful if we knew it's intended uses
>>
Just going to use it for target shooting
>>
>>29896370
a .22 is your best option in that case. for $500 you can buy a rifle and a shitload of ammo.

I picked up my first rifle not too long ago. I got an yugo sks and 1,000 rounds. Plus some ammo cans, stripper clips, and a cheap chinese chest rig. That was all more than $500. But just the rifle, after shipping and FFL transfer fees, it was a little under $500.

I'm looking for an AK next. I heard the milled ones from Zastava are good, but i've heard mixed things about Century arms.

Anyone know a good online retailer to buy a decent AK, up to $750.

>>29896370
Agree you should get a .22 if you're only interested in target shooting.

You can get a very nice .22 for $500. CZ makes some very good ones, Savage's bolt actions strike me as quite nice as well. Henry and Browning make nice lever actions. Be sure to check the used offerings, and make sure it has decent sights and is drilled for a scope.

The Ruger 10/22 is reliable and quite popular, although I think the better bolt action rifles have better triggers, are more satisfying to shoot and much easier to clean and maintain.

Can get M14 clones for 500-600 bucks, reliable.. Replacement parts are cheap, and these for being Chinese... ARe accurate, they got the original stamps or some shit like that, so they can produce more of a replica then a clone! Also you can get a nice scope on it, look up a Norinco M14

SKS's are great if you get one that's in good shape. If you like the caliber and reliability I'd say save up for an AK though so you're not left wanting, you may still be able to find one for 4-500. If you're into AR's you can build one for a little under 500.

they got savage axis's at walmart for $290-$300ish, i saw em chambered in 30-06, .308, and 7mm win
>>
>>29897777
why would anyone want a .22?

if you want a low recoil low cost rifle for plinking/hunting/defense get a cheapo AR

if you want something for small and medium game hunting/defense get a cheap decent shotgun like a Maverick 88.

why would you want a rifle that cant be used for shit and now has ammo only slightly less expensive than real guns?

it seriously boggles my mind why people want to hoard that useless shit.

yeah try hunting something bigger than a squirrel, or defending yourself, or shooting past 100 meters with a .22 kid.

>why would anyone want a gun that can be bought for 1/2 of the price of the cheapest decent centerfire semi-auto rifle with ammo thats 1/3 the price of centerfire ammo

a decent entry level center fire bolt action will run about $200-$350 and it can kill stuff, hit a target at 300 meters, and not jam every 15 rounds like a .22 semi.

i said semi-auto and youre pushing the boundaries of "decent" unless youre talking about milsurp

this can be done with .22 and is damn good practice for .308 at 1000 yards

>not jam every 15 rounds like a .22 semi.

like i said, take your autism to the /arg/. i enjoy my AR immensely but i realize a good .22 rifle is one of the best buys a new gun owner can make, especially if hes a poorfag like OP.

you can buy a Savage Axis for slightly more than a .22.

you dont even a defense for the .22 other than "hurr its cheaper and can kinda work for real gun stuff".

If you like weird milsurp rifles, you should really consider learning to reload. You don't need too much to reload for a rifle.
Even with the cost of materials, it's really liberating to be able to completely ignore ammo prices. If I want magnum 45-70's, I make that, if I want light loads, fine, want to shoot my Mosin with nice non-corrosive 7.62x54r? No problem.
Pick up a K31 at the gunshow? Just order some dies and brass and you're set.
