Hello /k/. I'm an engineer in college and have a personal copy of Solidworks CAD software. If you could design an infantry rifle, what would it be chambered in and what would it be like?

>tfw I really like the SA58 / FAL

Pretty much a leader T2 with M-lok and a folding

easily built in a home garage with minimal tools, chambered in anything that is readily available.

too bad it never saw widespread adoption :(

ive already drawn up the case, bullet, and barrel.

Right now the barrel length is 1000mm and is chambered in .308/7.62x51 NATO

ok so because I cant get good specs on the .308, I drew up my own design of a case. I can change the dimensions later if I need.

Do you like having white backgrounds on your CAD shit? I don't think I would be able to stand that.
>>
ok so im down to designing the bolt face. I have some questions. Is there a gap between the bolt and the chamber when closed? Are those two faces touching I mean? Also how far does the mouth of the bolt fit over the rim of the cartridge. I own a Mosin 91/30 and an AR so I am going to go look at the two and how they are designed.

I dont mind it. I usually have f.lux on so its more brown colored at this time but its not horrible. What color do you prefer?

Start with AK, bring it into the 21st century.

Blacks and Greys usually.

I would love this, but Masterpiece Arms already did this. kinda crappily though. I still want one though.

a FAMAS

start with an AR action.
DI, sealed, all kinds of nice.
.308 because stoppin powah
integrally suppressed quick-change barrel so you can go loud if need be, both barrels are heavy so it can be a pseudo-lmg
folding stock, and a forend with captive pins to take it off, kinda like an ACR (probably the best feature on the damn thing)
select fire, obviously.
since its an AR platform, putting shit on will be easy.
lug on the bottom to put it on a tripod so you can put a big fucking drum on it and use it kinda like a stationary gun.

If you're asking the questions maybe you should be going a little slower

An AR-18.
In 5.54x39mm.
>>
I really like the look of the new 6.5 classless ammo they're using in the lsat program

Sure, its really just there to sabotage the project and drive it into the ground, but the "stats" and its increased effective range would of been nice in Afghanistan.

To keep it simple
A 556 18 inch ar15 free floated with a 13 inch keymod rail, with a ruggidized 4 power optic, and a red dot mounted on top. I don't like acogs, anymore, and the eclan specters are too fucking heavy and there's a poa shift between 1x and 4x maybe a os4x with doctor sight.

>91/30
>belt fed
>rhodie camo
>shoulder thing that goes up
>spike bayonet
>knights armament rollmark
>.300 memeout
>stock cleaning kit compartment filled with cosmoline

Guys I really dont think its possible.
>>
over under rifle chambered in a special snowflake caliber
Maybe .375 reaper or .45 raptor
>>
A "Lego" gun.
>>
What I want is simple

Shoulder-fired gas powered minigun chambered in .410 bore

>Because we need more .410 Shotguns
>>
>>29894471
>>29894941

I've thought about this for years. I'd:

>use VZ58 styled furniture as the stock and grip
>weiger style forend and handguard
>Finnish style rear sight
>AK74 muzzlebreak
>forward mounted front sight, like most AKs have, for that longer sight radius
>17-18 inch barrel
>MAS49 style cocking handle
>chambered in .280 British or something equivalent

I think it'd be a dope ass rifle.

This is all on an AK, btw.

A rimless 54r

That's all...

Design an INFANTRY rifle? We already have the m16 and its variants.

The military figured out, through fuckloads of research, that it's better to shoot lots of little bullets and reload while your buddy is covering you than to shoot bigger bullets, but less of them. Hence the 5.56 round and faster reloading magazines

If i was going to design a civilian rifle, it would shoot 5.56x45 NATO. It's only pennies more expensive than 7.62x39, and is a faster round.

It would have wood furniture, and look like a milsurp rifle. Like the k11, it would have an internal, removable magazine (if that makes any sense), with a capacity of, say 5 to 7. The exact number is determinant of the width of the furniture, since i don't want the magazine to stick out of the bottom. It would be straight pull.

Barrel length would be 508mm, or 20 in, since this allows for higher velocities (this is the same length as the m16a4, and is long enough to not be considered a short barreled rifle).

tl;dr a k11 that is optimized for 5.56 NATO rounds

A meter long barrel? What kind of infantry rifle is that

They did it in the worst way possible
