Its within my price range and I'm considering picking one up for my first AK variant.

I own one. I love it. The forward grip takes a bit of getting used to, though it can be easily removed and replaced with another grip. It's hard to load 30 round magazines (it was designed to take 20 round mags), but it will still take them. You will be pleasantly surprised by the lack of recoil and the accuracy of it.
Had one for a while but all the shiny stickers kept making it too slippery

Unlike AR15 pattern with magwell that can be gripped, gripping AK mag is a bad idea, the recoil will make your hand jerk the mag about which can prevent proper feeding.

Partial thread hijack, anyone here got an AMD63? They are dirt cheap and I haven't heard much bad about them, but I would like to be able to swap the furniture for wood. I've hear it can be done but it's not easy. Anyone know?

That's total bullshit. I don't know what shitty rifle you've been using, but that should not be an issue.
Very little time shooting a AMD. They are easy to bump fire. If you don't change the wire stock out it can be a convenient home defense weapon becuase you can pop it around corner's without exposing yourself and blast a hallway to bits.

The only thing that should be difficult is the gas tube cover. Other than that it's just plug n play.
I bought a surplus gas tube and trimmed it to the right length, then reamed the end circular again with a counterbore and a hammer.
