Bought it for a dollar at a local swap meet, all I know about it is that it is 75mm because I used calipers, and it has a hole in the base.

So I got 2 opinions.

Old marine vet says its HE cuz it has "a fuse hole in the base." But hes straight up tinfoil status and has been known to wildly exaggerate things in the past.

2nd opinion is that its a solid steel AP round, or a training round, but that guy is airforce and admits that he doesnt really know.

I know that ww2 era 75mm shells had base detonating fuses, but im also kinda not sure cuz its outside my era of UXO expierience. So what is it /k/

(Inb4 any of you tell me to hit it with a hammer, ive been blown up twice already, no need to test my luck with a 3rd)

It looks like it need to go right up your pooper.
>>

Bumping for interest

Also OP can't inb4, so hit it with a hammer
>>
>>29886577
to me, it doesn't look right for ww2 75mm.
those looked more like bullets, this is very fat and bulged out.
maybe ww1?

>>29886592

What would be the protocol for EMT's, police EOD and hospital staff if someone had a live HE round up their ass? Doctor wearing full armor speculums the guys ass and attaches a caliper on a rope to the shell and someone else pulls?

do you really think that thing could fit up someones ass?
I've seen a lot of porn, but never the 75mm dildo porn.

Eh, it's tapered enough

Three dubs though
>>
That appears to be the bullet pulled from a 7.62x54r cartridge.
The most popular gun to use this round was called a 'Mosin Nagant'
(Moe-zin Nuh-gahnt) model 91/30 of which several million were produced. They can be had today for as little as $160 if you find a good deal.
I have one for deer season. I think I lucked out, because mine had a hexagon shaped receiver which I hadn't seen before. The flat spot was perfect for getting my hole for the scope mount centered. Maybe if you check local flea markets, you'll find a deal as sweet as I did.

Easy to confuse a trader hole for AP to people that can't quite place the ammo type.

Old school HE shells were still meant to be able to pierce armor in many situations.

It's an AP round. Solid steel meant for kinetic kills.

The hole in the back is for a tracer.
>>
>>29886577
Like everyone else my guess is M72 AP
>>
>>29886669
Trader hole?

My dads opinion the cast steel rounds of the era were often roughly cast, then finished on a large lathe and the hole on the back is not a fuze port but a machine mark from an early form of auto-lathe.
>>
>>29886831

Meant "tracer".
Autocorrect.
>>
>>29886614
stick two pieces of copper wire in there and touch the ends with a 9V battery
>>

Sorry, I meant the band "Stryper".
Autocorrect.
>>
>>29886934
Ah, that makes sense. So its solid steel shot with a tracer. Was gonna say, typically ww2 HE rounds have a seam on them and are 2 distinct halves filled with TNT, but I am admittedly uneducated on the interwar/ww1 era of munitions. So any other requests of ww2/1 artifacts? I got bunches of em.

Okay, well here is a nazi "desk eagle" I bought off a beduoin in kuwait who claimed to have found it.

Research confirms my antique dealer buddie's opinion, its a desk eagle.

Basically kinda on par with our military's tradition regarding coins.

Do a good job, not good enough for a medal but good enough for an "atta-boy?"
Some nazi junior officer would recieve one of these with a stand to sit on his desk.

The stands are actually rarer than the eagles, but its nothing to sniff at, bought it off that bedoin for 30 bucks and its worth easily 250-300

Next to it is a nazi pistol marksmanship qualification badge dated 1943.

Gotta go root around, I have a mint condition 50 reichsmark somewhere but
A) im drunk
B) its in a safe with a pile of outdated foreign currency and whatnot

Okay, so i couldnt find the reichsmark. Too drunk, SOOOOO much outdated foreign currency. Had 2 grandpa's die recently and they know im both a vet and a history buff so they left me a lot of shit knowing I collect such things and that I would treasure it.

So in consolation here is a genuine mills bomb (minus active fuze and explosive but still intact) and a 9mm mauser broom handle "red 9"

I sometimes CC it for shits and giggles, cuz grampa would think it was cool that I still used it on occaision for practical reasons.

Sounds like a cave rat told him that.

So heres what else I got
Mosin nagant, but it came out of the cosmoline drilled for a PU scope mount, we didnt have the sniper bolt or scope so we welded a bent handle on it and found a repro scope (back when mosins were still $50.)

7.5mm schmidt rueben straight pull in utterly unissued condition. Basically a swiss ww1-ww2 rifle, literally the most accurate iron sighted rifle I have ever fired.

.22 caliber training pistol weighted to be similar to a 1911, and a CZ .32 auto with nazi proof marks.

Ww1 enfield rifle with original bayonet for the eddystone rifle. Ridicuously long, too small to be a sword, too big to be a knife. (Still shoot deer with the gun.)

Immediatly post war sporterized springfield (great uncle was army, stole it, sporterized it at a master gunsmiths shop right after the war, gave it to my dad, gave it to me, I still shoot deer with it.)

And of course the venerable wartime M1 garand with period USMC cartridge belt (full)

Dad was a reserve deputy, not enough AR's to go around in the station, bear charged him during a wellness check in old ladie's back yard during '07. He emptied the old girl into the animal, it promptly ceased hostilities and died.

Now, to describe the great lost family artefacts.

So, that great uncle who sporterized the springfield? He was a ww2 vet, but he was born circa 1920. He found something in a cave growing up as a slavic immigrant north of gettysburgh.

In a cave he found a civil war musket and a calvary saber. Being a retarded kid he painted the saber solid gold and the musket white.

Upon adulthood he realized the desecration he had committed and resolved to fix it. He ever so carefully removed the crudely done gold and white paint from the two artefacts and realized he held a piece of true american history. All descriptions of his work from family members describe beaten, worn, but otherwise intact condition.

Despite being a slavic immigrant he KNEW such things were truly sacrosanct and upon joining the service left them with his little brother for safe keeping when he joined the marines to fight in guadalcanal.

Unbeknownst to him, his younger brother lied about his age to join the navy at the age of 16. In a battle with the japanese he was wounded to the cranium and effectivley lobotomized by shrapnel from a jap shell.

He returned better than a vegetable, but not by much. In effect he was a retard barely capable of even eating unassisted. To the day he died nobody could ever get from him what he had done with the civil war relics entrusted to him.

And thus a civil war calvary sabre and musket were lost to the ages. The family holds out grim hope that some day a trunk containing them will turn up, but it isnt very hopeful.

Lol, yeah, well more of an MP 3008 (german take on the sten meant for the volksturm) but thats gonna be a seperate thread for when I complete it.

I just gotta cut a bit more, file and polish, weld and assemble.

So like, 2 days until completion? Maybe 3. Depends on how long tonights hangover lasts.

Honestly I have added a LOT of personal flourishes to the design, ive become fond of calling it the franken-sten. Like I said, gonna be a new thread.

EOD
1. Its a 75mm AP-T. Solid shot with the hole in the base is for a tracer.
2. Ass/k/lown with 75mm suppository gets put in a sandbagged OR or field equivalent, anaesthetist gives him the drugs including muscle relaxants as prescribed, EOD under direcetion of surgeon by radio removes UXO, applies basic FirstAid to stop bleeding from entry or exit of UXO as per standard buddyaid, moves item to seperate sandbagged area for RSP as necessary, then once all clear hands over to surgical team for advanced ass repair.
>the guy in Blackhawk Down who got the live PG-7 removed in a sandbag OR on Mog airport outside triage, similar thing happened to an IDF guy who got hit by a ND 66mm M72... it happens.
>>
>>29887810
Thank you for your insight. Im just a marine TOW gunner. My knowledge of tanks kinda dies off right as the cold war starts.

Also, never had any idea you EOD crazies could theoretically end up performing surgery via radio instruction. Kudos to ya. Been blown up a bit, you guys used to save us the hassle of just hitting shit with our mine rollers to find it.
>>
>>29887810

If its Cat A risk - life at risk or high operational priority, or if it hinders you more than it will protect you, you can make the call to drop the suit.

>>
>>29887981
I have literally never seen an EOD guy wear it.

Maybe its an urban thing?

I was in helmand so mostly they just walked up to the device in question, dropped a demo charge on top of it, and walked away.

Few times they just marked it for later and we all went somewhere else.

EOD guy, whats the gig with the suits? Ive never seen yall use em.
>>
>>29888060
Yep. Rarely worn in Afghan as (1) main charges are too large for it to have much protection vs encumbrance (2) the coolsuit underneath needs fresh ice bottles every 10-20minutes and is another layer to wear.
Mainly used for urban IEDD where you can re-ice or go without the coolingsuit.
>tfw non-eod command expect you to wear it as maximum PPE for safety when its a 500lb bomb that will just add an extra haze of kevlardust to the redmist

Hey there devil dog, welcome back. Got any advice on how to make a Mauser more tactical? I saw Ed Harris kill communists in a movie with it, and Germans always make good stuff. Oorah
>>
>>29888060
Suits are used for the first manual approach of an IED which hasn't been cleared first by a robot. Assuming of course you have a suit; if you're rolling dismounted or from a helicopter, obviously nobody is packing that bitch. Dismounted we roll with plate carriers, extendable sticks, and lasso tricks on IEDs.

Somebody would wear a suit in-country if they were running from a vehicle or dealing with an IED on the FOB itself. An EOD guy in a suit means the robot option has failed.

It's more common to use suits inside the states (we help cops out on request), but even then it's very rare.
>>
>>29888113
You actually wear the cool suit? I didn't know of anybody who didn't leave that in the team room.
>>
>>29889150
Occasionally.
The trick is to swap the couplers at the top/pants to be both MF not MM FF.
NFI why MedEng did it that way.
Then you can use the top without the useless pants to concentrate on cooling bodycore instead of wasting effort on legs.
>>
>>29889177
In our training experience, the cool suit felt like wasted time to put on and the water quickly got so close to body heat warm that it didn't make an appreciable difference, so we dropped it.

Bombsuit was rare. Think I saw it used less than five times in-country. All but one were for clearing shit on or just outside a major FOB. One use was for clearing fucking IDF because "hurr durr first manual approach needs a bombsuit" rule interpretation by some idiot officer.

We used a number of neat smaller robots. The 210 iRobots and some smaller throwbots really helped us out to make first approaches easier.
>>
>>29889211
More useful to wear the coolsuit top in hot humid tropical where sweating doesnt cool at all.
Agreed, suit use was rare, but as per pic everybody likes to try it on, not just visiting politicians etc, was a good pickup for medic chicks to let them try it on.
>>
>>29889234
Oh yeah, will agree. Bitches love the suit.

Had some Aussies try it on. Pretty great to have big breasted women sweating through their t-shirts after you peel the suit off.

OP you have three choices.
1) record yourself slamming that thing with a big hammer repeatedly
2) shove it in your pooper
3) failing these two spend the rest of your life in /mlp/ with the rest of the sissy faggots on 4chan
>>
>>29890868
I see no reason why I would be obligated to do any of those things.

Besides, hitting it with a hammer has already been determined to be pointlesss, its a solid steel AP round after all.
