They're fun to shoot, they're different. I don't take it to the range every time I go, but every once in a while it's fun to take out. If I'm shooting with a group of friends, or we have a no-funs with us, they /always/ want to shoot the "sawed off"

Do yourself a favor and file a Form 1 on an AR lower receiver. Even if you just get a $50-60 PSA one or something. File the paperwork, pay the $200, and hang on to that receiver for when you can afford to finish out the build.

An AR receiver is by far the best bang for the buck in the SBR world. You can SBR that receiver and buy 5 uppers if you wanted. You can also get into it pretty damn cheap and stretch the cost out over time, unlike most other platforms.

>>
>>29883269
Yes, they are. 300blk subsonic or any pistol caliber is great with a can. Full power rifle calibers are going to be louder due to the sonic crack of the bullet, but not having the report of the muzzle a foot in front of your face makes shooting more pleasant.

Of my three lowers, one is Form 1'd. Think it makes sense to do the other two even if I don't really intend to put a short barrel on them?
>>
>>29883361
I have two SBR'd lowers simply because the $200 and $50 for engraving seemed worth the money to have two complete firearms in the setups I wanted. I had two distinct themes for the rifles and doing them required specific stocks and grips.

For most people one receiver would be enough, but to me it was worth the money.
>>
Alright, so I just moved out of California and I had two questions I was hoping someone with more experience could answer.

First, when filling out a form 1 should the overall length of the rifle include any intended muzzle device? I want to make an m4gery with a 14.5 barrel and was wondering if you had to include the flash hider in the overall length.

Second, Do you guys have any recommendations for a 7.62x39 and 7.62 nato suppressor? They would be for akm and FAL kit builds respectively.

Any help would be appreciated.
>>
>>29883401
>include any intended muzzle device?
Is it pinned? If not then no. And also get your OAL with your stock in the most collapsed position if that's applicable. But it's not like anyone checks on these things, you use submit a number and go from there.
>>
>>29883401
1) Overall length needs to be anything permanently attached to the firearm, stock extended. A muzzle device that is not pinned on would need to be subtracted from the OAL. But don't get too hung up on being 100000% accurate, give it a rough measurement and put it down. Once the form is approved, OAL no longer matters despite what some people will tell you. There is no legal requirement to notify the ATF of any changes to the firearm, they just ask that you do so.

2) There are plenty of 30 cal suppressors out there that are good. Suppressing an AKM generally isn't a good idea due to piston pop, it's just not effective or worth the hassle since most AK barrels aren't concentric anyway. Stick with good brands of suppressors and it's hard to go wrong.
>>
>>29883433
You measure stock fully extended.
>>
>>29883433
>get your OAL with your stock in the most collapsed position
>>29883454
>You measure stock fully extended
Is there any official guidance on this?
>>
>>29883478
The ATF asks for measurements from the extreme ends of the firearm. That means from the very front, to the very back. The stock extended fully would be the extreme end of the firearm. If you google "form 1 oal length measurement" you'll see the established way to measure is stock extended, no muzzle device.
>>
>>29883387
I guess I'm just feeling pressure to get as much shit done before I have to do fingerprints for everyone on my trust. I still plan on buying stuff after that so I'll need to do fingerprints anyway. Guess it doesn't actually matter.

>>29883437
>Suppressing an AKM generally isn't a good idea due to piston pop, it's just not effective or worth the hassle since most AK barrels aren't concentric anyway.
Do you know anything about the AK-specific Dead Air can? Looks like it has its own mounting style which I assume compensates for the inexact stuff on AKs.
>>
>>29883454
Yup, my mistake.
>>29883478
Just get a measurement and submit. You'll be fine. You can always email the ATF with questions tho.

>>29883437
>>29883433
Very nice. Thanks for the help guys.
>>
>>29883500
There may be "safer" ways to attach a can to an AK in regards to stacking adapters/compounding tolerances, but there's no way to compensate for an extremely off center bore. It's best to visually inspect the bore of the rifle to see if it's close to concentric before threading the barrel, or purchasing an adapter for a threaded FSB. It really boils down to which AKM you're considering.

Regarding decibel reduction on an AKM, there have been attempts to lessen piston pop by doing some work with the gas tube and some other things to seal it up a little better, but it'll never be as quiet as a DI AR15. The Tavor suffers from similar piston pop (I have one).

Couldn't give you any advice on suppressing an FAL, I don't have one.
>>
>>29883437
>Suppressing an AKM generally isn't a good idea due to piston pop
Explain, plz.
>>
>>29883566
The gasses that push the piston rearward escape and make a large amount of noise, in short. Similar as to why it's a bad idea to suppress revolvers as gasses escape from the cylinder gap.

Sound escapes from the gas block when the piston moves back beyond the holes that bleed off excess gas.
>>
>>29883566
>>29883592
Also, to clarify. It's not a BAD idea to suppress an AKM. It does work, and will be quieter than unsuppressed. But it's not nearly as efficient as a more sealed gas system (DI) or a bolt gun.

Disassembly would probably be nice, but not super important.
Gas leaking means it's blowing less out the back through the action when it unlocks, and doesn't make it any louder.

Submitted my form 04/12/2016. Trend graph shoes less than 1% chance of getting it by the end of this month, about 4% chance of getting it by the end of June, and about 59% chance of getting it by the end of July. almost 100% chance of getting it any time after that.

My form submitted two days ago has an 8% chance of being approved by the end of July, and a 65% chance of being approved by August.

So yeah, looks like 90 days is the standard, but it's possible to get it done earlier. Highly unlikely

I'm annoyed any time people don't do research before buying things, especially inferior, gimmicky look-cool-do-nothing products, which the gun industry is ripe with. Grip pods, solvent traps, zombie green, pistol bayonets, anything Costa, it goes on and on. Every week there's some new amazing high speed low drag whiz bang Zev-tier garbage that people clamor for because they're just too dumb to see it for what it is.

It's a benevolent annoyance though, anon. I'm annoyed FOR you, because you're too dumb to regret your bad decisions, like.

They're perfectly fine. I know you've already moved your goalposts, but the half-millimeter of suppressor you can see above the front sight post doesn't change the sight picture in any way.

It IS low enough to not need raised sights. It's quiet and light. I don't care that if it leaks gas at a seam, Silencerco has even said they know and don't give a shit. Being user-serviceable would be an improvement, but if there's a big problem I'll drive 10mi to their building and drop it off.

Don't I have to do something to make my trust legally active?

>Don't I have to do something to make my trust legally active?
In my state, you just need to have it notarized. Means a state official has witnessed the trust being formed and certifying they saw it. I don't know if any other states require it to be filed with the state government or anything.

Title II Destructive Device representation coming through!
>>
Is sbring 5.56 ar worth it? I'm thinking either 11.5 inch sbr or 14.5 inch carbine with perm suppressor muzzle brake.
>>
>>29890389
Mine is a 10.5". Yes, definitely worth it. Your choice in ammunition needs to match your barrel length when you get down shorter than 14.5" due to FPS reduction. Do not count on anything like M193 at ranges longer than 25 yards as it won't be going fast enough to be effective. Heavier grain bullets would probably be a better choice.

For me it is more about a fun, handy gun to play around with than pure ballistics and firepower. A full length setup is obviously preferred for that purpose.

Someone want to explain trusts completely to someone who is retarded?

Do I just go, "here law nigger, here's money." and they magically create a trust instantly? Does it take time? Do they expire? do I do that before shopping for my NFA item? Is it something that's still on a timeline being completed? are they kind of a grey area?
>>
If I wanted to share a single suppressor between all my pistols, I would want to go with the largest caliber I have, correct? For example, if I had 45acp and 9mm pistols, and wanted to share a suppressor between them, I would want to go with 45acp?
>>
>>29890774
yes
>>
>>29890511
get online trust for around $100, usually expires when you die.
>>
>>29890511
A trust is a legal entity that can own property. A trust is a popular way to procure NFA items because a trust cannot be finger printed or have photos taken of it, therefore simplifying the process (at least until ATF ruling 41f hits in July, google it).

As a trustee, you can posses and control property of the trust. You can also assign beneficiaries. You can have multiple trustees, so if you and your father wanted to share NFA firearms and not be in violation of the law, you could do add him to the trust as a trustee.
>>
>>29890839
Are current trusts going to be grandfathered in?
>>
>>29890875
41F doesn't do anything to alter the structure or formation of trusts, it just adds the requirement that all trustees (not beneficiaries, as I understand it, so if you have a 2-year old kid as a beneficiary you don't have to haul them down to the cop shop to get printed) submit photos and fingerprints to process ATF forms for the trust. Also you only have to re-submit if more than 6 months have passed since the last form was submitted. Meaning as long as the trust submits a form every 6 months or less, you don't have to get printed and photoed every time.

The only "good" thing about it is it does away with having to get your CLEO sign off on your form submissions, which was never a requirement for trusts anyway.

Lastly, all forms that are submitted before the ruling goes into effect will not be subject to the new regulations. Which means everyone who wants an NFA item is bombarding the ATF with form submissions, meaning the dirty cocksuckers will take forever to get your shit approved

>TL;DR fuck this gay earth
>>
>>29891039
I don't fully understand, I did tell you I was slower than a tugboat right?

So does that do that to a trust created before that ?
>>
>>29891102
It doesn't affect any trusts at all. Trusts are separate legal entities formed for all kinds of reasons, usually to protect assets and/or enable easy transfer of property in the case of a trustee's death. NFA trusts are a specific kind of trust that deals with firearms and accessories which fall under the onus of the National Firearms Act. The ATF doesn't have the authority to dictate how trusts are formed or their internal documents, other than to verify that the trust is a proper legal entity.

The new rules simply change the process for submitting forms to the ATF and add some new legal hoops to jump through, hoops which were already in place for someone wanting to obtain NFA items as an individual. If you aren't planning on sharing your NFA stuff with anybody and nobody else has access to them, there's really not much advantage to forming a trust after the new rules start. The old upside of a trust (besides being able to legally share and pass down your items) was that a legal entity can't be photographed or fingerprinted,so the trustees effectively sidestepped those regulations
>>
Moral of the story is, if you plan on using a trust for NFA purposes, you better do your shit before July. The process after 41f goes into effect won't be impossible, but it is more difficult and requires more bs to do.
>>
>>29890443
Then why not just use 300 memeout?
>>
>>29891039
>>29891251
But trusts will still be able to submit Form 1 and Form 4 through e-file, correct?

Anons, pls...

I do.
>>
>>29891424
As far as anyone knows. E-file was been kinda hit or miss for awhile
>>
>>29891448
are you retarded?

The federal government already knows about any firearm that you got background checked for. Don't be naive.
>>
>>29889554
I need to know. Where did you get your 107UR? They seem to be hard to find. Did you buy it as a pistol, rifle, or SBR?

Also would it accept a suppressor?
>>
>>29889554
also where did you get that gorgeous handguard? Did it come with? The wood looks phenomenal.
>>
>>29891712
I got mine from K-Var in December as a rifle. Filed Form 1, waited 90 days, then sent it off to be chopped and have gas block opened up.

You could if you had the barrel threaded 5/8-24 but that may interfere with a booster if you plan on using one. Not sure.

They're available online. Surplus Russian AKS74U handguards. Paid $100 for them.

>>29891777
Thanks.

Also what diameter did you have the gas block opened up to? And how has the rifled functioned so far? no problems?
>>
>>29891851
You just have to remove a welded in gas restrictor. Most come out pretty easily if you take a drill to it and go up in sizes till it comes out. The gas block does need to be removed first to do this. Do not modify the gas port in the barrel.
>>
Who here has made an sbr in their basement but quickly switched back to a full legal length rifle out of ATF fear? Be honest. Unless you are forced to go to a gun range who is going to know if your gun is an sbr or not while shooting in your backyard?

SBR laws are about the dumbest gun rule out there. We can own pretty powerful pistols and rifles but can't own in-between w/o paying da man.

ATF pls go

that's a bingo
it's not about crime or safety
it's about them getting your money
it's about making sure you know who's boss

thats a good thing. theres so much volume inside the tube that carbon will knock out before it becomes a problem. no reason to clean!

I was looking into the Obsidian as well, but it was sold out everywhere. I guess the Tirant will be my entry level for now.

Worked at a gun shop and every single Osprey sold has been back to the manufacturer for repair. Buy it if you want to look cool, though.

The stamp took 3 months. The barrel work took almost 2 months, but I knew it was going to take a while as the shop I used was back logged with work.
