Is the Depleted Uranium armor on the Abrams real, or just a meme propaganda?
>>
Is that why sandpeople claim they have all those defects?

They might want to look into their massive incest rates first. M1A1 Abrams aren't that common and weren't responsible for more than 1% of all ammo spent in post-1990s conflicts.
>>
Are you asking if it works or if it exists?

The fact that you use the word "meme" to mean something fake means you're probably not too smart and don't know yourself.

Iraqi and Saudi M1 are DU probably. Hell I'm sure about the saudis, I remember articles about how upgraded were the saudi M1 tanks. It's not something you can just strip out. They might not have add-on stuff like DU side skirts, but it's just a matter that the M1 isn't 100% rated to resist against ATGMs of that power. Really no MBT is. Those tanks get blown up because saudis and iraqis throw them around with no infantry cover and shit crews.
>>
>>29880587
It's all meme faggotry.
On the other hand, I've got depleted uranium underwear to protect my virginity so I can be a wizard in just a few more years.
>>
I regret why my country got the M1A1sa, even though it got a stronger armor

>According to the original DSCA, the spare tanks in question are in the “special armor” configuration. While the Pentagon is tight-lipped about the protective shell on the various Abrams models, this setup is generally assumed to have improved defenses over standard M1A1s.
>>
>>29881077
>Iraqi and Saudi M1 are DU probably.

They do not have DU.

>Hell I'm sure about the saudis, I remember articles about how upgraded were the saudi M1 tanks.

Saudi M1's are M1A2's from the 90's with an export armor package, some of which have had the electronics upgraded and are designated M1A2S.

>export armor package

General Dynamics or the American DoD have developed a heavy armor package without depleted uranium to keep the M1A2 competitive on the export market. This composite armor package has been at least used in the Swedish, Turkish and Greek trials, the weight of the tank fitted with the export armor package is equal to a M1A2 with DU armor.
>>
>>29880587
It uses DU in armour. Which coincidentally makes it stronger against kinetic penetrators and little bit weaker against HEAT of all sorts, which is pretty stupid idea seeing as most AT munitions are HEAT.

It's fun that tinhats thought it were DU penetrators that caused Abrams to be radioactive after getting wrecked though.
>>
>>29881277
Oh boy, here we go with the retards who don't understand the basics of radioactivity. Did anyone bother to mention to the retards that depleted uranium is a less radioactive version of natural uranium ?
>>
>>29881376
The armor plates are also spaced which is really good against HEAT
>>
>>29881329
Yes, that is the armor package that Australia uses.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt and Iraq have a different armor package. This can be identified by the serial numbers on the turret.
>>
>>29881589
Or that if you inhale DU its the heavy metal toxicity that harms you, not the radiation.

Which is kind of funny given that tungsten is actually more dangerous in that regard.
>>
yes its real its even on the M3 Bradley. im in the army as a cav scout and we work with the m3 alot and have drills to get out of the m3 if the armor gets comped.
>>
>>29881671
The only DU that a Bradley will see is M919 APFSDS.

>>
>>29881727

>>
>>29880587
No it is real.

Its pretty fucking easily verifiable.

DU is super dense IIRC and thus makes great armoring.

Is there any proof of Chobham armor existing?
>>
>>29881589
ok then you know that if you breath radioactive particles you are contaminated from the inside.
>>
>>29882517
If you breath DU dust you will killed by heavy metal poisoning long before the minute radiation has any noticeable effects.
>>
>>29882517
U238 decays so slowly that its radiation levels are ridiculously low. For example, it's 200'000'000'000 times less radioactive than Iodine 131, which an actual health hazard to breathe in.

But hey, keep just thinking "radioactive" is one of these big scary buzzwords.

>>
>>29880587
I'm stationed with a tank battalion, while I'm not exactly walking around the ramp with a mass spectrometer, the TM's say it's got DU in it, so they probably do.
>>
>>29884682
The "U" at the end of the serial number on the outside of the turret (which is actually the SN# of the turret armor) means it contains depleted uranium.
>>
>>29880587
Notice the front plate of turret and see how it is unharmed.

That's not destroyed! It's just disabled! Even if you vaporized it with a death ray we could condense the metal vapor into a new tank. The law of conservation of mass means the Abrams is indestructible. Nice try, Ahmed.

molotovs to blind the IR optics, then while the tank crew is losing their shit, pull the fire suppression handle on the outside of the tank and, if you can, go for the fuel cutoff, or put some kind of explosive (like a thermite grenade) down the barrel.
be prepared to die.

Yes, the only tank in that collection that was outright killed is the one on the bottom row without its turret. It ran over an anti-tank mine combined with artillery shells and was thrown into the air.

There is one in the upper right that is just stuck in mud that dried around it.

But you can do it by using Ceramic/Steel composites rather than steel/DU composites, except those are minimally less resistant to kinetic penetrators. You can also fill the space with some light polymers, it'll make it even more effective.

The whole deal is basically that some retards decided that kinetic will be the future and have chosen a composite to be the most resistant to kinetic penetrators even though the reality is exactly opposite.

The funny thing is that when they try to compete for foreign deals they actually let their clients choose whether they want composite with DU or not, most of the times because the clients don't want the DU and demand Chobhan instead.

It's kinda like with engine - if you're interested in actually buying Abrams for your country you can skip the logistical nightmare that is its turbine and go for 1500HP diesel.

I find it extremely funny that in all these pictures the turret is traversed into a position so the driver can get out easier. Like, the tank got hit, then they took the time to traverse so they could leave the tank.
>>
Also daily reminder, the Depleted Uranium armor produces alpha radiation which can't penetrate skin, the clothes on your back, PPE, paint, or even the steel its encased in. You are exposed to more radiation from digging a hole. then being inside a tank.
>>
>>29889219
That's absolutely what happened.

>Tank is mobility killed/mission killed.
>Crew almost always has time to bail out without injury.
>Can't get a tender to it for X, Y or Z, decide to scuttle the tank.
>Have to wait for an Apache or similar hellfire toter to roast it.

Except if it gets hit and tiny parts of it get into your eyes, nose, throat, digestive system. Then its a slow agonizing death. Good shit, easily trivialized by comparing it with digging holes.
>>
>>29892072
Not really, the tolerance limit is about 35 micrograms, and it's not the radiation that kills, it's the chemical toxicity.

There's about 90 micrograms of uranium in you, just from the environment eating and drinking. The radioactive effects of uranium are almost unnoticeable. Further substantiated by the lack of medical complications of Gulf veterans.
