Any lesser-known WWI small arms you're hoping to see in BF1? Battlefield usually has a shit ton of gun variety, so what do you think they'll do to keep it diverse?

A lot of people don't know that soldiers would hold machine guns sideways to make the recoil go horizontally, I hope they let the main character utilize this shooting style to make it more accurate.

Siamese Mauser would actually be super cool to see. Yes, Siam participated in a few late battles during WWI. Just stick it in MP or whatever as an odd option if campaign ain't going to cover super obscure WWI stuff.

They can also go dumb and put in the single shot 8x52r Siamese pistol.

bf wouldnt be crazy enough to eliminate full auto for realism. i bet the first weapon of each class might be semi or bolt, but i bet you there will be an auto or semi unlockable each class and itll be the most used simply because of it.

I'd like to see the full variety of bolt-actions even though it will be hard to make them effectively different from each other in-game. In most video games I've played all bolt-actions feel the same.

I'm more interested in seeing what factions and theatres they're going to cover, so far it appears they've shown the Western front, the Italian front, and the Ottoman front. I wonder if the Canadians or Australians will get any attention.

I honestly think BF1942's weapon decisions were done out of necessity, but I don't have enough insight into the matter to be sure.

I just found it odd that they gave the Russians Thompsons, and the Japanese Mausers and Panzerschreks. Yet, weirdly enough, they gave Japan the copy-cat M1 Garand, didn't they?

I'm curious how they'll balance it though. Extremely low velocity relative to normal bolt actions seems like a start. An absurd bolt cycle time, low ammunition count and a slow reload are also possible solutions.

Yes, they did give then the copy-cat Garand, but I think it was just to keep things even because the garand would feel pretty broken on a lot of the pacafic maps iirc.
I would always use whatever bolt-actions were available though, it was a good time.

Kar 88. Love that stock and bolt handle.
>>
>>29882677
Some of it was necessary (everyone having some sort of rocket launcher) odd balancing decisions (they decided to restrict semi-auto rifles to pacific maps for whatever reason, so the japs got the garand copy instead of the Arisaka) and some of it just felt like laziness. (Mosin-Nagants and Springfields don't exist at all, the Lee-Enfield just stands in for them, same with the ppsh/type 100 and the MP18, everyone using 1911s and P38s, etc.).

If they are deployed as AT weapons, that is definitely a good idea. I'm also wondering how they will do the tanks.I'm hoping for them to be multi-crewed death machines, and for the AT-Rifles to only do damage on flat angles and such.

iirc the Brits repurposed their large game rifles from the African colonies and loaded their shells with the projectiles backwards to create a makeshift am rifle.
>>
>>29882735
Some of the vehicle decisions were pretty puzzling. The Russian medium tank was the T-34-85, which was okay, but then their "heavy tank" was just a plain T-34. And then I remember the British and American "heavy tank" equivalent to the Tiger was the M10 Wolverine. It really begs the question of why they couldn't model in the IS-2 for the Russians and maybe the Churchill for the British.

No they didn't. That was the germans.
They used hunting rifle for snipers and the standard 8mm round was loaded backwards as a field expedient way to punch nice clean holes in the tank and sniper armour until dedicated AP rounds were issued.
The brits used obstacles, tanks, and artillery to stop germna tanks.

T Gewehr should be battle-pickup only. Give a speed penalty and make it so you have to set it down on a bipod.
>>
>>29883251
It slightly raised pressure resulting in a small increase in velocity.
Main benifit was from the change in material behaviour on impact. A normal bullet is displacing material to the side as it penetrates. Teh flat base of the bullet acts like a punch, makes a nice round hole through the armor with less energy so it has more energy to bounce around inside the tank..

I'm assuming the 'engineer class' will get bolt actions, and AT rifles, snipers scoped rifles, and maybe like Binoculars so they can call in mustard gas strikes/artillery on an extremely long cool down, and those sick periscope optics, this all all guesses on my end, if I ended up being correct id give my self a huge pat on the back

Assault - SMG
Medic - Semi-auto rifles

Scout - Bolt-action rifles

Hoping to see pic-related ingame.

There was a lot of automatic weapon usage in WW1, I'd say it's closer to 70% used only bolt actions.

Bolt guns were still the main weapon of European armies by the start of WWII. I doubt they would have had semi-automatic weapons widely deployed by the 1920s had the war dragged on.

In all honesty, if they're going to make a WWI game, they should make it as authentic to WWI as would be possible. It seems pointless to choose this time period, but create a game which plays the same as every other installment with everyone using semi/fully auto weapons.

This never happened. Frankly, that armor would be completely impractical for a trench raider because of all the noise you'd make trying to sneak up to a position and it offers no real protection in a situation where hand-to-hand is going to happen. You'd want to wear as little equipment as possible sans your helmet and at most be carrying a decent club and a bag of grenades. That suit was used for machine gunners and sentries - people who aren't needed to be mobile and are exposed enough to warrant such concessions.

>>29893497
Bits of it were. Soldiers did reach each others trenches. There were raiding parties and snipers stalking no man land.

The first few months and the last year of the war were fluid. The last year especially had some simarity to ww2. Co ordinated use of tanks, planes and artillery. Infantry which was very experianced and knew what they were doing(excepting the US)

The middle eastern front had armoured cars, bi planes and cavalry working in concert. Plus Lawrence of arabid leating hit and run and sabotage attacks. The eastern front never bogged down in the same way due to the spaces involved.

Shooting from the saddle as sowpwiths race over head and armoured cars ambush over a sand dune sounds fun as fuck. Could be an awesome game if they pull it off.

Hopefully they don't fuck it up with everyone having submachine guns.

Tunneling could be fun too. Trying to sneak underneath the enemy to lay explosives large enough to completely destroy the enemy map.

French had a lot if African soldiers. Black us troops also fought under french command too.

True, the two other will be Manfred von Richthofen and T.E. Lawrence apparently, which sounds excellent. No word so far from the Eastern Front, but since this is a EA DICE game that's more than likely DLC.

Looking around it seems like the options are:

MP18
The Villar-Perosa or "an ugly son of a bitch even its mother couldn't love" http://world.guns.ru/smg/it/villar-perosa-e.html
Beretta OVP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_OVP
Beretta 1918 http://world.guns.ru/smg/it/beretta-m191-e.html

And did the Mauser C96 or Luger have selective fire versions with larger magazines?

Bear in mind these being all Italian or other weapons being prototypes or only late introduced in the war is irrelevant - BF3/4 have paid no mind to faction-locked weapons or depicting incredibly rare guns as common.

>>29888656

Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about assault getting the anti-tank stuff since assault is naturally going to have a lot of players gravitate towards it. I am glad they lose the medkit (I say that as someone who likes playing medic) but full-auto weapon + high explosives seems over the top. if I were doing it I'd make it:

Assault: Flamethrower (if not a pick-up on the map weapon.), smgs and fancy larger magazine or full auto pistols if they existed.
Medic: Bolt action, semi auto rifle
Engineer: AT stuff, bolt action,
Support: LMG and sheet
Sniper: Duh.

Everybody gets bolt actions, was going to say shotguns too but could stick em with engies.

I know they experimented with full auto as well as 20 round fixed mags by the time WW1 came about. They also had a carbine with a fixed stock, longer barrel, and fore-end.

Whether they combined any of these features I'm not sure, but it's probable they made experimental models.

I don't think it's unfeasible they would have switched over to semi-autos if the war had dragged on. The looming threat of war saw the boomtime of arms development prior to WW1, only being abruptly stopped when the war began and the promising semi-auto or selective fire prototypes couldn't get into mass production when it would fug up the logistics. But then once the war started proving nasty, brutish and not over before Christmas you had the arms race pick up steam again. Only the war ending dispelled the motivations to develop and equip one's army with newer weaponry - the cost and complications of switching over to new-fangled selectie fire or semi-auto rifles isn't appealing when the barbaric hun/perfidious albion/frenchies aren't your enemy but rather poorly equipped savages in the colonies are once more. Pic not quite related since this was the ethos before WW1, but I find that slur hilarious.

I'm curious to see what their new melee system will be (they said during the reveal they are developing a more interactive and visceral one, and would have to since "press X to insta-kill" don't work if you want to hype up the melee combat as they have).

>>29895080

Really neat looking gun, but why is it they didn't just make a larger long magazine or a traditional drug mag?

>>29897011

Man I want a C96. Lugers look nice if a bit weird but that gun is so beautiful.
>>
They have to make the combat interesting to their demographic audience somehow. Like introducing assault-style weapons or improvised attachments. Like a full-auto C96 Mauser with a 50 round clip and a prototype reflex sight. Or an Obrez in the pistol slot. Pre-order now and get 1911 and BAR unlocked immediately! Stupid shit like that.

I'd love to see more peasant weapons. Double-barreled shotguns, pitchforks for melee weapons, giving your guy steel plating for body armour.
