Regardless, they should know better than to use tire thumpers. Thumping just can't be as accurate as using a gauge unless you're extremely extremely experienced.
You want to have all your tires within 1 psi of each other, it is much better for gas mileage and wear. Actually, I'd think many truckers would want to overinflate their tires by about 5-10 PSI, the gas they'd save would be astronomical after a year of having less rolling resistance. Overinflating saves you gas, underinflating will get you out of the mud, and average recommended inflation is for average use.
