The dustcover could have been updated so that it doesn't have a top section and slides over the sides instead of locking in from above. A monolithic rail can then occupy the entire top and anchor itself just in front of the rear of the dust cover. Probably also needs to have a hole for the guide rod button to stick out or some kind of replacement method of holding everything in.

Beginning with the first game that took the franchise into the modern day setting (COD4), weapons with optics on them tended to lose their rear iron sight entirely. You can probably guess the reaction back then, but nowadays people seem to be less and less concerned with their irons and have started doing the same thing anyway.
