10/motherfucking10

I remember as a kid, I went to go watch this with my mom and brother. We both happened to be home from school for a doc appointment and went to see that in a theater afterwards. We were the only people there. Best theater experience I've ever had. Learned that the front row seats aren't the best that day. IIRC we also watched it again a few days later (albeit with a more full room that time) making it the first movie I ever saw twice in theaters.

The Wild Geese is a great film if you can get past some of the trappings of the time it was made, namely the flaming queer surgeon (must have been hilarious in the 70s, but its just insufferable now) and the racial commentary that is so forced it makes District 9 look subtle and nuanced. Its loosely based on Mike Hoares mercenary force in the Congo ten years prior, he was an advisor for the film too.

Most of the war up to half of the waffen SS were foreign volunteers. The last defenders of hitler's bunker were french SS. up to 40,000 former US Citizens served in the waffen SS, the majority going to Germany prior to 1941.
>>
>>29856710

Right, but it's bullshit that the last defenders of the Führerbunker were French. That's just wrong. It also never had to be defended as it was never attacked.

are you fucking nuts? if there's a US citizen joining the Taliban and fighting against the US, i'd want him shot too, if he'd ever tried to go back home.
What the fuck do you expect from the french, welcoming them with open arms and baguettes? They fought for the enemy and not their motherland, even against their motherland. Traitors are executed.

Das Boot

When it comes to accuracy and the finest details, Das Boot has every movie beat.
They went as far as going to the original U-boat builders and had them build one for the movie.

It's the only war movie I know that has a 5 hour uncut version.

Plus it has a really cool soundtrack.
Somtimes when I'm at my computer working, I'll listen to the OST.

Fresh off the boat, from reddit, kid? heh I remember when I was just like you. Braindead. Lemme give you a tip so you can make it in this cyber sanctuary: never make jokes like that. You got no reputation here, you got no name, you got jackshit here. It's survival of the fittest and you ain't gonna survive long on 4chan by saying stupid jokes that your little hugbox cuntsucking reddit friends would upboat. None of that here. You don't upboat. You don't downboat. This ain't reddit, kid. This is 4chan. We have REAL intellectual discussion, something I don't think you're all that familiar with. You don't like it, you can hit the bricks on over to imgur, you daily show watching son of a bitch. I hope you don't tho. I hope you stay here and learn our ways. Things are different here, unlike any other place that the light of internet pop culture reaches. You can be anything here. Me ? heh, I'm a judge.. this place.... this place has a lot to offer... heh you'll see, kid . . . that is if you can handle it.

>The film includes some 15,000 Soviet foot soldiers and 2,000 cavalrymen as extras—it was said that, during its making, director Sergei Bondarchuk was in command of the seventh largest army in the world.
>Mosfilm contributed more than £4 million of the costs, nearly 16,000 soldiers of the Soviet Army, a full brigade of Soviet cavalry, and a host of engineers and labourers to prepare the battlefield in the rolling farmland outside Uzhhorod, Ukraine (then part of the Soviet Union).
>To recreate the battlefield authentically, the Russians bulldozed away two hills, laid five miles of roads, transplanted 5,000 trees, sowed fields of rye, barley and wildflowers and reconstructed four historic buildings. To create the mud, more than six miles of underground irrigation piping was specially laid. Most of the battle scenes were filmed using five Panavision cameras simultaneously—from ground level, from 100 foot towers, from a helicopter, and from an overhead railway built right across the location.
>Months before the cameras started filming, the 16,000 Soviet Army soldiers began training to learn 1815 drill and battle formations, as well as the use of sabres, bayonets and handling cannon. A selected 2,000 additional men were also taught to load and fire muskets. This army lived in a large encampment next to the battlefield. Each day after breakfast, they marched to a large wardrobe building, donned their French, British or Prussian uniforms and fifteen minutes later were in position. The soldiers were commanded by officers who took orders from director Sergei Bondarchuk by walkie-talkie.

Dad Boot is literally the story of a young optimistic civilian (the photojournalist) coming to understand the horror of submarine warfare.
