Why wouldn't manufacturers put magazine fed rifles into contest?
Is it simply just too expensive to standard issue those?

The Army didn't trust soldiers with detachable magazines at that point in time. Garand himself wanted to make the rifle use BAR magazines. However, the Army didn't think it was a good idea. The Garand's unique feeding mechanism was devised as a work-around.

En enbloc clip is maybe a 3-4 step stamping out of a single piece of material.

A period magazine is a 2-4 step stamping of the body, at least two more springs in the design of the gun, at least one more stamped part and at least one more machined or forged part.

Clips are cheap enough to be disposable, magazines aren't.

Generals were a little pants on bead retarded at this point and believed that detachable mags would cause a soldier to waste his ammo.

BUT the M1 was designed as an enbloc system from the beginning so theres that.

I shot a Garand for the first time over the weekend and it was... pleasant. I've only shot bolt-action .308s and Nagants so I was expecting pretty bad recoil but it was surprisingly soft.

I have a flinching issue and I was really happy with how enjoyable it was to shoot. I want a PTR-91 and I hope it doesn't recoil much worse than the Garand. It's weird, even a 91/30 is like 6 feet long and 20 pounds but even that seemed to recoil way more than the Garand. Really nice rifles, too bad they're so expensive.
>>
>>29846644

I'm probably getting a second one so I can rebarrel it to .308 and shoot M80 ball out of it.

My next purchase will most likely be a Maadi though so I have an AK before the panic buys. Normally I'd get a WASR but they're hard to find in configurations legal in my state, while the Maadis with thumb holes are relatively common.

After that, I might splurge on some airshit guns and gear but I'm also considering buying a Nugget and SMLE in case I ever want to reenact WWII Soviet or WWI in the future.

I want a garand so bad. We frenchcucks have to get a 'Categorie B' license (which is a long and tedious process, and has to be renewed every year, so basically you never actually own the gun, you're renting it) to buy an unmolested one. Otherwise, on hunting and sporting licences (Cat C and D), the garand is only available as in castrated manual cocking mode or with en-blocs that have been modified to fit only 2 rounds, and some other permanent mod in the internals. So basically, unless I sell my soul to the devil and suck a hundred muslim dicks as part of the Cat B application process, I can only own a retarded one shot garand or an even more retarded 2+1 monstrosity.

Furthermore, regardless of the license you hold, every gunowner is limited to 1000 rounds a year per caliber.

tl;dr, life sucks for me

Honestly if the French didn't have super retarded gun laws I'd move to Normandy. I love the countryside, especially that of Normandy. What's more is that they actually like Americans and as a reenactor there'd be so much for me to do.
>>
>>29846756

As soon as I get my state tax return I'm sending my AK74 kit to a builder. I should have sent if off now with some money I had, but I got ancy and bought a new AR upper.
>>
>>29846780
My parents have a house there. It's really lovely; the weather is mostly shit but I like that, it's super comfy.

French gun laws are retarded, but at least you can own decent bolt actions, rifled shotguns and milsurp. Unfortunately, they're all overpriced. Even French guns are cheaper in the states

>>29846794
I'd buy an NJ friendly converted 5.45 Saiga if they weren't $1000 and practically unobtanium. So sadly I'm forced to resign myself to 7.62.
>>
>>29846806

Not the worst thing in the world. I'm going to probably buy one of the 7.62x39 VEPRS on KVAR and convert it here once I have the money. Again.

So many projects, so little time. You reminded me that I want to get an Enfield. I'm debating an Ishapore model though so I can once again, use .308.

I'd probably just get an actual legit British one. I'm not entirely sure how much I trust the Isha pores

>>29846805
Comfy is the exact word I would use to describe Normandy. I've traveled pretty extensively in France, particularly the South, but Normandy still has a special place in my heart.

E-sarco has BM59s for 1,200$
>>
>>29846926

I would prefer a Brit model. But if I had two of comparable quality side by side for the same price, I would take the Ishapore so I could feed it easier.
