Honestly, it is thoroughly unpleasant. No sights, all of the excessive recoil goes directly into the web of your hand, and the knurling on the foregrip will chew up degloved hands. Even with birdshot I always end up with broken skin on the grip area.

Couple that with how ridiculously expensive they are, and no, I'd say definitely not worth it. Much prefer a sawnoff sxs.

But, in fairness, I have relatively girly wrists.

Shit man, it's hard enough keeping our fucking lever guns let alone getting semi auto's back from almost unobtainium status.
Might be a possibility for semi .22s and maybe scattergats, but for centrefires, it's extremely unlikely.
If we don't keep fighting, they'll take fucking everything

>>29850275
Thanks man.
Yeah it looks a little odd, but all it is is a modern lever action shotty. Adler A110. Pretty much made for the Aussie market cause lol no pump shotties.

>>29850214
It's pretty neat, I managed to modify the action so it's a little smoother now.
Managed to score 18/25 on my first round of clays with it.
Quick follow-up shots are very manageable, and apart from me not opening the lever all the way, I've yet to have any real feeding issues

Still, If I could have own pump actions, I'd choose it in a heartbeat over this

if you just want something new to play with, when your finds allow it, treat yourself to a swiss K31. or pick up a mosin carbine on the cheap. or a m1 carbine to round out your america. an SKS might be nice for you too since you already have an AK and buy the ammo for it. enfield no 4 down the road, but its pretty similar to your smle. i say get a M44 carbine, for the price you cant go wrong. you already have the 54 ammo and its a whole new experience making 4 foot fireballs, youll never shoot the 91/30 again

>>
>>29851836
The logic to ban them wasn't based around the mechanics of the gun. They were banned because every man and his dog had a pump shotty.
It was basically to kill the gun 'culture'.

>>29851853
SMLEs and No4s are plenty common yeah, and mostly reasonably priced (for us anyway).
You could pick up either model for around $350-400US if you looked around.
So yeah, you always see a few at the range.
The other most common Milsurp I see are Martinis and M96s. There's also plenty of mosins, carcanos, k31s, steyr 1895s, etc.
I'd fucking love to get my hands on a 1903a3, but they're rare as fuck over here and cost a damn fortune if you manage to find one.
Only example I can find, and it's not even an original (would still buy if I was loaded though)
http://www.lawranceordnance.com/shot_and_shell/rifles_renewed_military/03a3_c.php

I also haven't seen any MAS 36s around either, would love to get one of those too, although ammo would be fucking hard to find.
>>
>>29852385

Yeah actually, they tried to ban the same shotgun (which in turn meant all lever actions) because it looked scary and everyone thought it fired in fucking semi auto or some bullshit.
Luckily all that shit got repealed cause lever actions have actually been around for over 100 years and they aren't some new scary technology designed to kill babbies faster.

Got the Taurus 44 a week ago. It's sexy as hell and has the nicest Polished Stainless I've ever seen. Wanted a .44 Mag and couldn't have done better for what I paid.

Got the HK P30SK last night but, sadly, the Grip as I feared was too short for me. Doesn't feel comfy and I'm looking to trade it for a Compact 9mm - hopefully a Sig 239. So.. if anyone in NE Ohio wants a P30SK let me know.

Shot a Garand over the weekend for the first time and it was surprisingly pleasant. I loved shooting it. I expected more recoil since the only full-power Rifles I've shot have been a bolt .308 and Mosin 91/30.

10/10 soft recoil impulse would like to own. I suspect the PTR-91 doesn't shoot quite as soft as the Garand but I hope it's not quite Mosin bad.
>>
>>29855091

The PTR has like a delayed recoil impulse, but feel similar to the Garand, maybe a touch more rough.
>>
>>29855096

Is it just me though or is the Garand much softer-shooting than a bolt .308 or Nagant?
>>
>>29855112

That would be fair. I wouldn't say it's "a lot softer" but it's definitely noticeable.
>>
>>29855118

Maybe I just tend to flinch less and anticipate less with semi-autos. I had a good shooting day and wasn't thinking about Flinching like I sometimes do.

the bottom metal is from CDiPrecision Gunworks. price is $209. fitting is free if you want them to do it and send them the rifle. the bottom metal and trigger guard aren't as pretty as the stock one, and there's a small part on the back shoulder of the magwell where it's not flush with the wood, so there's a trade off for aesthetics.
the mags are AI 300winmag and expensive as hell. they also need a bit of filing to work right. the inside of the front flutes so the thicker necks don't stick in there. the front of the feed lips so they feed better. I also whittle the back of the plastic follower so I can close the bolt on an empty mag.
I also filed the bottom of the feed ramp just a bit. some of the longer bullets were getting stuck under it if I didn't insert the magazine just right.
the 5rd mags are nice. I mostly stick with those. the 10rd mags are very long and wobble a bit in the magwell. I'm trying to see what I can do about that. I've got a couple of those mostly in case of deathclaws, skagzillas, and verdugos.
it's a lot of fun once you get it working right.

I've never shot it from a bench, just standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone. prone kicked the most.

>are you a swissfag?? that has to be the NICEST stock i have ever seen on a k31, my only explanation is that you live there

I refinished it, although it was in pretty good shape already. Steamed the stock a bit to sweat out a few bumps, very light sanding, then refinished with linseed. The stock is beech, not walnut, so it's already lighter. I personally prefer a lighter colored stock.

I'm Belgian though, not Swiss. K31s exported to the USA tend to be bought in huge batches. K31s exported to european countries tend to be hand picked by the importer. So yes, you'll find a lot more "pretty" K31s in Europe then you'd find in the US.

I used a normal iron at a low-ish setting, but didn't use the "steam" function of the iron itself. Though maybe that'd work too?

I put a wet cloth (recycled natural color thick cotton t-shirt, but you could use a wash cloth or something too) over the stock & put a hot iron on, for 20 second increments at a time. Then lift the iron, wet the wood & the cloth and apply again. Make sure not to dry out the wood!

This only works with bumps btw, not where there's actual breaks.

I've only done this once, but it seemed to work fine. I'd caution you to use thick cloth though, or fold it over multiple times if you only have a thin t-shirt. I'd also not risk using a colored t-shirt, since I'm not sure if there's risk of color transfer.

Been wondering if I should give my 100 year old SMLE a go, but I dunno. It's kinda meant to look old, right? Still, SMLE N°1 MkIII look sexy as fuck when like-new.

To clarify, I don't mean putting a hot iron on the exposed wood! That's just ruin the wood. I meant steaming through the cloth.

But since the cloth you use is already wet as hell, and you apply a hot iron, it becomes steam anyway. Your iron needs to be hot enough, but not on a scorcher setting.

You can get modern PPU .303 in virtually every gun store.

>is there still a lot of surplus avaialble from ww2 there?

The only surplus I know of is Pakistani shit that's prone to hangfire. I wouldn't bother with it. It's not like a bolt action shoots sufficient volume not to buy modern production ammo.

As for WW2? Hah, no. You can still dig up .303 from WW1 out of the soil if you have a metal detector and a shovel, but I wouldn't try shooting that. ;)

Cut, refinished, sculpted grip, reinstalled bead sight myself. Runs like a champ. Some people say it'd be impossible to break open because you don't have the leverage to cock the internal hammers but I slicked up the action well enough to where it's essentially as easy as breaking a stock one. 1878 manufacture that was sold out of service to the South Australian police. There are no Nepalese markings on it if any kind which was a huge plus for me when I bought it.

It's one of the few milsurp rifles I kept after selling off all of my WWII rifles except my Garand. I have a thing for South African military history and especially the Boer Wars, so I couldn't get myself to sell it. One of these days I want to buy more Martinis, a Lee Metford, and at least two Boer marked Mausers (pretty expensive tho) but I'm not in a rush. 1870-1900 era milsurp from South Africa is really the only milsurp i have an interest in collecting anymore.

I find them quite equal in terms of ergos, but that depends entirely on the grips you put on them. That said, the wood Jericho grips fit my hand better than the classic wood CZ grips. I plan on doing some fitting work on the CZ grips next chance I get.

Yeah, the screw on both the CZ and Jericho keep the grips nice and snug. Be careful though as the Jericho grip screws are made of a harder metal than the frame and you could potentially strip the frame threading. Mine are starting to go.

so how comfortable is it to shoot with different shot loads?
what's the spread and velocity like?
what about the recoil?
what did you need to do to smooth the action, just polish contact surfaces and grease it up?

I love the tight spread of the full and mod chokes on my CZ. I can't imagine I'd ever cut it down other than some road warrior/fallout/rage shtf scenario where I'd need to bug out, save weight, and ATF law is gone.

CZ has SxS frames sized for all the major shot gauges including .410.
I wrote them a while ago asking how feasible it'd be to make one with a short barrel, without a butt stock, and 1 in 20" rifling as a .410/.45 Colt pistol but all they wrote back was they had no plans to do so.

I think it'd be a kick ass idea though. no NFA stamp or taxes. mad max, doom, and fallout are popular as ever so I'm sure there'd be a market. .410/.45 revolvers and derringers are popular enough already. the only major change to tooling they'd need is rifling the barrels. plus there's no competition. the only SxS .410 pistol I've ever heard of is a cheap cobray derringer.
wishful thinking

>>29868201
>so how comfortable is it to shoot with different shot loads?
Birdshot is a blast, and can easily be shot one handed provided you hang on to it. Buckshot and slugs, you're gonna need two hands. There's a technique to it in using the natural tension in your unlocked arms to absorb and slow recoil rather than just holding it stout and unmoving, which is enjoyable.
>what's the spread and velocity like?
Haven't measured it just yet, only been dirt blasting. I've got a chronograph handy and need to bring it out next time with the obrez and a few other short 12ga to get some readings. Spread, as best I can tell by eyeballing the splatter and going from memory (grain of salt here), was about two feet at 10 yards or so. Don't quote me on that til I've got a paper target though.
>what about the recoil?
Substantially more than a full size shotgun for sure. Many people seem to think that "lol all the powder burns off outside of the barrel so it's super light" Naw, man. Naw. Shotgun powder burns very very quickly and if you've got a 10" barrel that's basically all of it done. Minus the weight of the barrel and stock chopped off, you've got one hell of a rearward booster. Eventually I'd like to set up a swing stage for guns like in webm related to demonstrate comparative recoil.
>what did you need to do to smooth the action, just polish contact surfaces and grease it up?
Basically, yes. Also honed the chambers and tuned some of the action springs. Not the hammer springs though, don't fuck with those. I sometimes get light strikes which I'm not certain if that's from hard primers or insufficient hammer force, might drop in some stainless steel firing pins as stoeger factory pins are known to be rather weak.

Also I wouldn't bother with .410, it's got a cool factor but it's nowhere near 20/12ga.
