Are familiar with guns at all?

A Tok.

I am, a bit. I understand how to operate them and I understand how firearms work at a basic level.

Walther PPK

Boom, right there. Spend the rest of the money on ammo, a holster and a belt.

But really, look at the Glock 43 and the Walther PPS before you do buy one. This is a damn good price for a Shield. Recently turned 21 and on my way to get my permit and bought one.

Do you know the rules of gun safety without google
>>
a pistol
>>
>>29843937
The only things I can think of are to not point it at anything you don't mind destroying, always keep it on safe until then, keep finger off the trigger until then..make sure there the chamber is clear and you don't have a magazine in when you're taking it apart.. keeping it clean.. it seems self-explanatory
>>
>>29843959
Before you get a permit, read up on your local laws and statutes. Watch Massad Ayoob videos on youtube.
>>
>>29843959
1. Treat all firearms like they are loaded.
2. do not put your figure on the trigger unless you are ready to fire.
3. Do not point the Firearm at something you do not wish to destroy/kill.
4. be sure of your target and what is beyond.
>>
>>29843904
this question is too general. there are too many funs out there, that cost less that 500$
clarify your requirements.
>>
>>29843904
Get a cheap nugget second hand and stamp it for an SBR. 400ish$. Now its a pistol. CC obrez, fucknihillate perp when you have to pull it.
>>
>>29844157
Are there any known instances of a self defense shooting with a tax stamp gun?
>>
>>29844148
I'll be in a college town and most people will get weird around me if they see my big 1911 on a waist-band holster or whatever. I just want something that is quality and will last me my entire life if I take care of it. $500 for a quality .380 pocket carry, I think is sufficient.

>>29844173
No, 9mm friend..

fuck off faggot a 380 is perfectly fine for a fucking college student to pocket carry OP don't listen to this dumb fuck a 9mm is too big unless you're like 6'5+ and can pull it off god fucking dammit i hate you idiots

you're not going to fucking pull out and shoot your 9mm without earplugs and ruining your hearing or keep it in a pocket without printing much more easily just fuck off with that dumb shit. in a stressful situation, the last thing you want to worry about is your ears ringing or a fucking recoil. you'll die if i shoot you with a fucking 380 and don't even start with your STOPPING POWER faggotry.

Explain why a 9mm would be the better choice.
>>
>>29844219
Jesus you're retarded
>>
>>29844191
.380 ACP is a 9mm short and is going to be the same thing for any close encounters. This is why I think that it is better than a 9mm for a CCW. The 9mm will be more accurate at a distance, which is totally a useless characteristic for a CCW.
>>
>>29844254
9mm can run WAY hotter loads. Also this is really personal choice. I know people who carry:
.32 acp
9mm
.40sw
.45acp
And one jackass that carries a .454

Each is as confident as the last that his pistol will defend him sufficiently. Especially Mr. Casul.
>>
>>29844173
Get a ruger lcp custom. They're probably the best and most lightweight .380 handguns you can stick in a pocket holster with sights that are actually useable. These can be found for $230 which is a really good price

If you want to get fancier, look at the kahr p380 but they go for ~$500.
>>
>>29844279
This. It really doesn't matter what round your pistol shoots, it's going to suck for the other guy regardless.

And kudos to the guy carrying .454
>>
>>29843904
Bersa Thunder. It was my first CCW and served me for close to a decade. Retired it, started carrying a P238 until I decided I liked the Thunder better. More comfortable with it. Though, honestly, the P238 is the better pistol overall.

>>29844161
Yes. A guy used a fully automatic rifle back in the 80's and got fucked by the legal system. Hard. Don't have the link.

Also, even if a nugget is pistol length it is still "technically" a rifle so I'm not sure how CCW laws cover that. Wouldn't want to find out either.

Makarov
Sig P239
Sig P238
Walther PPS
S&W Shield
S&W Bodyguard
Ruger LCR
Ruger LCP
Walther PPK

most of those can be found new, if not used, in your price range.

the most important thing about a carry gun is how it feels to you, in your hand, and how easily you can manipulate and work the safety, release, mag ejector, and other features.

Go to a fun store, and try and hold and rack a couple of gats before making your choice. also, don't feel the need to buy into STOPPAN POWAH, a 380 or 9 will work just fine if you don't want a fawty or fawty fibe.
>>
>>29843904
S&W shield or Glock 43 will come out under $500, the shield is just shy of $400 where im at (before tax)

Shield + good holster + good ammo is going to run you around $500 total

also can tack onto the list
CZ82/83
Glock 42
Glock 27
Glock 43

at the end of the day, even a NAA .22 mini revolver or .32 PPK is better than nothing at all, unless youre up against a guy on PCP or crack.

I think that's the one story of the HK employee who killed a biker with an AC-556. Bikers attacked him and his wife on the road, he pulled over and pulled out a rifle he was researching on. Accidentally had it on 3 rd burst and downed the leader.

HK payed his legal fees IIRC, I'm guessing this was pre-86

M&P shield or compact in either .40 or 9, whichever you prefer. If you are leaning toward the compact, check out the FNS compact before pulling the trigger so to speak on it. They have better triggers out of the box, cold hammer forged barrels, come with two 12 round and a 17 round mag, and are essentially the same dimensions. The M&P comes with two 12 rounders. These are all solid options that can be had for under 500 or even under 400.
>>
>>29844412
Also if you dont mind .40 there are always M&P compacts on wikiarms under the police trade in section.
>>
>>29844380
That's the story.
