Welcome to the best general.

Lets talk about:
nuggets
SVT-40s
PSLs
VEPRs
SVDs
etc

or just talk about guns you wish you had

>tfw 54R is no longer the cheap rounds/guns to have

What I would do to go back and buy another 10 crates when they were cheap. I don't have enough

On the other hand I am working on a blank fire adapter for my SVD.
>>
>>29843715
54R is still pretty cheap in the Midwest, last I checked. Of course that was three months ago, so that could've changed.
>>
Am I a total retard for wanting a VEPR for a woods gun? 54r or .308?
>>
>>29843715
Fuck I wish could find a Mosin in south Texas. There's plenty of 54R for sale but no mosin's at any gun store down here. FUCK

Na 54R is still cheaper than 308. Even new production 54R is the same price as 308

>>29843746
Never enough mosins
>>
>>29843763
I can fucking buy 54R at 556 prices but can't find a rifle. Or any bolt action milsurp really. It's fucking maddening.

stalk gunbroker, I've still managed to see mosins sell for under $200 there.

I've honestly never spent more than $100 on any of mine except for my PU

but it's been a while since I've bought a mosin just because they haven't been back at the $100 range and I already have most of the ones I want. Only other one I'm probably looking to buy is a Finnish M39.
>>
>>29843817
Yeah I probably will get a GB account soon. I was just hoping to find one locally.
>>
>>29843833
There are a lot of gun groups forming on mewe, you could also try putting an ad up on armslist.
>>
Best general and best trip are back finally

VEPR vs SVD vs PSL, go.
>>
>>29843817
Do you buy all of those for investment purposes or are you really that autistic?

>>29845010
they are all different to some degree
>>29844952
The PSL and Vepr are comparable, because they both come from the Kalashnikov family of rifles. Both are based on the RPK design, and beefed up for 54R

They aren't really comparable to the SVD, however. The SVD is in it's on category of rifles, and the rifle is completely different from the other two other than the round it shoots.

When comparing the PSL to the Vepr, the Vepr has the advantage. It has a heavier barrel and they are more accurate. It seems the 20" barrels are more accurate than the longer barrels to begin with, and there's data out there that suggest that barrel whip plays a factor into that.

The PSL's long, and pencil thin barrel isn't optimal for accuracy compared to Veprs heavy barrel.

The Vepr draws more design from the RPK as they are made by Molot. As such, overall the parts are beefed up in comparison to the PSL.

The major advantage the Vepr has over the PSL is it's ability to consistently shoot heavy ball ammunition without killing itself. The PSL will beat its trunnions out, deform its bolts, and even cause receiver warping when heavy ball is pushed through it consistently. The Vepr won't have this issue.

The Vepr is also significantly cheaper than the PSL. The PSL has, more or less, started to fall into the collectors realm.

The main advantage the PSL has over the Vepr are its magazines. The Vepr only accepts single stack polymer magazines where as the PSL uses 10 round double stack metal box magazines.

The SVD, on the other hand, is better than both by large margins. It was built from the ground up as a "Sniper rifle" (soviet doctrine of snipers worked more like DMR roles we see in the west)

But the SVD was not built off any pre-existing firearm platform. It was specifically built up with it's own unique operation and design. Here's a video comparison

Larger round means less capacity, you can't reasonably fit 30 rounds of 54r in a magazine.

Unless you want drum mags, which I guess would be cool if impractical.

Check your local small stores. Often.

I picked my last one (Probably the last one I ever buy) for $150 this winter. Guy at the counter said he had just put it on the rack that morning.
>>
svt are a bit more rare. buy online or wait the long wait for a local store to have one? also nj, svt is borderline legal if the bayonet lug has not been removed. [50/50 the staties confuse muzzle brake with a flash hider]
>>
I'm a soon to be owner of an Svt-40 and was wondering if someone could give me a rundown of the best types of non corrosive ammo and the gas settings that are best suited for that ammo.
>>
>>29863441

The gas settings depend on how worn your parts are. 1.3 seems to work fine most of the time.
I've found that copper washed brass works much better than lacquer coated which suffers from extraction issues. Russian and Bulgarian surplus have been reliable and accurate in my SVT so far.
>>
>>29863473
How about PPu brass cased ammo? Also what Grain of bullet should I use to cause the least amount of damage to the stock?
>>
>>29858828
Trust me I will if I can.
>>
>>29861272
:3 it may come to that
>>
>>29863497

Haven't used any. Use standard light ball (~150gr), you can shoot heavy ball without doing much harm since the gas is adjustable, but there really isn't much point in doing that and giving the stock any more hell than necessary.
>>
>>29863631
Thanks for the info, My stock has a sling mount in the back just like a Mosin. Are these anymore rare because I herd they were used by the Russian naval infantry.
>>
>>29863680

AVT profile, right? Mine's like that, too.
They are somewhat rare, but I like the thinner SVT stocks better, even though they can't take as much beating.
>>
>>29863792
Yup Avt profile with the 6 hole muzzle break. It says it came with the original sling but I think the sling is just a standard Mosin one.
