/k/, I was thinking about my next gun purchase and I was curious for your guys’ input. I just got into guns, and it seems like the market is kind of in an lull right now, so it strikes me as the time to expand my collection, before things get really crazy as we near the election.
My question is whether I should get at an AK pattern rifle like a WASR or a "compact" 9mm like a Glock 19?
My admittedly small collection entails:
Savage Model 6B
Mossberg 500
M&P 15
I really love rifles, but I also think everyone should own a pistol as well. Just wondering what you guys think. This wouldn't be a problem if I could get both, but I'm on a budget and I also think with the way politics are in my state it could be very difficult to buy weapons in 6-8 months, so it may be a case of one or the other.

Good advice, problem is it's assblastingly difficult to get a CCW in my state.
Get the Glock then you will have all your bases covered for a basic gun setup. You have a .22, a 12 gauge and a semi-auto rifle, all you lack is the pistol.

What state are you in, what's your budget, and do you prefer striker fired or hammer fired?
I'm gonna rattle off a few good handguns available in 9mm Luger, going around the $300 to $400+ range
>Walther P1 (Cold War variant of the classic Walther P38, featuring an aluminum alloy frame, look for the hex pin ones, 8+1)
>Rock Island Armory 1911 (Any basic variant goes from $300 to $400+, the GI is nice as a Plain Jane pistol, 8+1)
>Zastava M70A (Serbian copy of the classic Soviet Russian TT-33 Tokarev, relatively thin, 8+1)
>Ruger P80/P90 series (Solid and dependable, quite good for their price, bulky, but not as bulky as a Hi-Point, 15+1)
>Ruger SR9E (More or less a copy of the Glock conceptually, some people like these, others hate them, 17+1)
>S&W SD9VE (Roughly a copy of the Glock, think the M&P, but not quite as nice, for their price though, they're fine, 16+1)
>S&W 5906 (All steel shooter renowned for it's reliability and solid build, light recoil, was king until Glock took over, 14+1)
>Star Model B (Scaled down clone of the 1911, magazines can be tricky but if you get good ones you should be fine, 8+1)
>Taurus PT92 (Licensed clone of the Beretta 92, featuring a frame mounted safety, this is as nice as a Taurus will get, 15+1)
>Kahr CT9 (Think the Glock, but made flat and single-stack, very basic, though the trigger isn't for everyone, 8+1)
You already have a good "combat rifle", a shotgun, and a .22, you lack a handgun, and as you say, everyone can use a handgun.
A current WASR wouldn't be a -bad- purchase, but the issue is a limited budget and filling out the basics of your arsenal.
