This was the last time they fought a War against any noteworthy enemy.

You decide.

Vietnam weakened by approximately twenty years of war for which they are 1:1

Why haven't they done anything to help Russia with Syria? Even North Korea sent people lol.

Looks like a lot of Russian sourced stuff. Haven't seen anyone capped it the forehead in a US recruiting video. Cultural relativism?
>>
>>29831710
The Vietnamese only ever relied on Russia because it gave them an ally to draw on when they didn't have one. Uncle Ho's dream of an independent Vietnam, unfortunately, was going to need outside help so they sold their soul at the time but rather promptly got ti back.

no but i find it FUNNY

>Why haven't they done anything to help Russia with Syria?

Vietnam is closer to US now than it is Russia. Times have changed.

LMAO 90% of their aircraft footage is either CGI or ripped from history channel documentaries

Uncle Ho was a commie, but he wanted Vietnam unified and independent more than anything. He just also believed that should it be independent that communism would be a good form of government because it aligns with traditional Vietnamese ideas of society (common good that everyone works together to achieve)

Vietnam is starting to align with the US. The Russian pivot to Asia is making it side with China in the SCS issue more and more, which is upsetting the Vietnamese. Vietnamese population is split right now on siding with the US and siding with Russia. But Laotian moves towards becoming a Chinese ally recently has spooked the Vietnamese to the point where the US is considering completely dropping the weapons embargo when Obama visits Hanoi this month just to reassure the Vietnamese that they are safe (and to possibly push them away from Russian influence).

Still, IF (overemphasize if, though there are some cracks in the Russo-Sino alliance starting to appear) China and Russia relations begin to fray quickly, expect Russia to try to re-kindle the Russo-Viet alliance.

Depending on how Obama is treated and if the embargo is completely lifted how many orders the Vietnamese ask for, we'll see how close Vietnam has aligned with the US.

Though they have to also make sure it doesn't piss off China too much because of the economic interconnectivity the two countries have.

Buuuuut the Vietnamese government is negotiating with the US for military use of Cam Ranh Bay, a port in southern Vietnam that is supposedly one of the best naval locations in the SCS.

I think this was only out of necessity, they had to fast and dirty their infrastructure building and complete nationalization was the only route at the time. He was more a true nationalist than anything else.

Vietnam needs large graving docks to make it more enticing.

Like large graving docks along the likes of Yokosuka and Bremerton.

Biggest mistake the US has ever done was side with the French who treated the Vietnamese as insects.

If anything the US should have jumped on the first chance they got and made Vietnam a US ally.

Exactly, Uncle Ho would have not only been a friend it would have also been one of those things that would have set the entire narrative out of Moscow about inability to coexist on it's ear. The Kremlin would have lost the ideological war for the whole World to see before Kennedy had even left office.

There had been a few essays about how the US dropped several OSS groups into Vietnam to help the Vietnamese kick out the Japanese. When the French came screaming back to reclaim their colony the US pulled out and let the French do whatever they wanted until things got real bad.

Can't remember who or what but several OSS agents pleaded for the US to support Ho because he was commie on paper and loved the US.

If the US did not pull the plug on Ho-Chi Mihn we could have:

>Vietnam becoming a dictatorship that slowly rebuilds/shakes itself into a South-Korean like entity and gains a democratic style government.
>Vietnam rebuilds into a Japan style economic powerhouse. It's location is strategic for force deployment and straddles major trade routes.
>>
>>29831581
They're probably going to have issues in Turkestan soon, so getting more recruits isn't a bad thing.
>>
>>29832324
Kennedy's own advisors were saying that we should support Ho's bid for reunification during the plebiscite but he had that hate-boner about even the word communist.
>>
>>29832196
>Biggest mistake the US has ever done was side with the French

France was needed to help curb Communism in Africa. Which of course meant them slaughtering entire villages and mass executions.

Fun Fact: Uncle Ho actually looked up to US all his life, and was heavily supported by them in WW2 as guerillas. Vietnam even modeled their founding independence document after the US Declaration of Independence.
>>
>>29832357
Kennedy was open to making some serious radical changes to US foreign policy.

Among them were closer ties to the Asia-Pacific, especially Vietnam as well as major inroads with India. IE, exactly what US foreign policy is doing today.

Instead we got Nixon who chose China.
