Actually nobody in Britain had constitutional protection, in fact the UK still doesn't have a written constitution. They have a common law system based on precedent, which already guaranteed basically all of the rights later outlined in the U.S. constitution. In addition the taxes that were being levied were there because the British had just spent large amounts of blood and money making sure America wasn't conquered by the French.
As for representation, not only would that have been logistically extremely difficult (how could MPs communicate with their constituents when it was a three month journey between England and America), but the colonies already had representatives who's job it was to bring the concerns of colonists to the attention of parliament.

Depends on the kind of colony, with 19th century European colonies in Africa then you're correct, but America was a settler colony. The goal wasn't simply to extract resources, it was to expand the borders of Britain itself.
