What's the most overloaded and bulky "Future Soldier" project in the world?

For consideration, I present the Swiss Army's IMESS

Spain definitely wins this one because jesus fuck even though you're fooling yourself by wearing chip you'd die of overexertion trying to shoulder that fucking 50 pound megazoid of a g36 anywhere near a desert.

Felin optics, scope/camera combo with capacity to transfer images real time to your own helmet mounted scope for concealed firing, other squads, upper echlons, fire support, whatever. Useful as fuck but heavy, you will find rarely more than one or two per squad. There is an even bigger one for precision rifles. I'm not sure if the normal one has night vision but the large one does.
>>
>>29827110
seems useful but looks cumbersome as fuck also. I could see a modified version that has a lot of the techy bits in a backpack and a cable leading to the rifle as way to distribute the weight.
>>
>>29823519
>>29826268
Note how the two optics are one and the same. That's because the Swiss are considering the French system, they aren't developping one of their own.
>>
I think Djibouti's Future-Soldier program was pretty cool.

They had this whole "Camo-Through-Crowd" theory where they gave each soldier a different camo pattern so the enemy would never know which was the real soldier and which were thrift-store civvies
>>
>>29828028
There were a lot of indirect improvements since first generation, with new combined Felin gear carrier/plate carrier, lighter and more comfortable, new batteries both lighter and with better charge, weigh saved here and there with less buckles and metals bits, etc. Eventually i don't doubt there will be new optics as well as nobody denies the facts its indeed bulky and quite heavy, but it will certainly take some time.

That gun looks like it was designed by a kid who knew general gun shapes, but wanted it to be "so much cooler with more stuff on it".
>>
>>29828180
That makes sense. I always assumed that the fuckhueage experimental optics on these rifles were more of a proof of concept/ test to see if the advantages are useful or a gimmick. Rather than an actual representation of how it will look implemented on a rifle in the field.

A little insight on this. All these outfits were part of GIAT-led studies about the ancestor of the now issued FELIN system, which was named ECAD. The equivalent of the US land warrior.

On the left a sniper with a Hecate II .50BMG which is issued since 1992. The helmet was there to prove the fact the gun and its optic could be used with a ballistic protection (which is absolutely useless but seemed like a good idea to someone).

The outfit the second one is wearing was an attempt to make an IR stealth vest. Hence the skirt. The helmet would have been completely enclosed with a mask. Also, the Minimi being at the time the photo was taken something kinda new within the french army, it was showcased for this reason.

The third guy was supposed to wear a complete torso armor, as the french army wanted to dramatically boost infantymen's protection. The question was "will neck protection be achieved by the torso part or the helmet". Note the Famas G2 (USGI magazine) which was, back then, supposed to replace the Famas F1.

Which leads to the final guy, being the most (at that time) advanced project. His helmet features an eye sight wired to a camera fixed on his Famas. The bulky part on his forehead being a calculator. Also, the armored collar was supposed to help against debris projection and low velocity rounds.

This last project, after 20 years of prototypes, studies, and bullshit, finally became FELIN, and before you may ask, yes, it's (mostly) shit.

About the armoures vehicles behind, the middle one was an attempt at making a radar stealth AMX30, and on the right one the same for a VAB with a 20mm turret. I have no idea what's on the left side, but probably a modernised AMX10P of some sort.

Let's just rip-off "EXO-Squad" and invent reasonably-sized mechs.

It's clear we'll never cease our fixation with giving our troops a ton of gear and technological superiority.

It seems the AMX-30 was also meant to have IR reduced signature by pumping cold air between the armor and the outer skin.

Dude, you got too much crap on your G36. Definitely not taking SAWC into account there. What's the POU of all that kit? Looks like you went overboard because of the second kind of cool factor and now all those ounces turned to pounds.

from what Ive heard its built over an exosuit and has a cooling system made of an under layer vest covered in tubes that will have chilled water/coolant pumped through it. Striker crewman wear a similar system since they have no a/c.
>>
>>29828606
It was studied in the early 90's but France was and still is nowhere near the US on that matter.

No, the french soldier will keep becoming a cripple at 35. That's what will happen.
