All the major aluminum forges are busy making A2 spec lowers for cheapshit carbines and uppers with carry handles are at a higher premium for this very reason too.

My left handguard has a small crack at the base of one of the prongs, but that shit is so absurdly common I didn't worry about it. Other than that, it's just about perfect. I'd suggest buying furniture from USCollectorsOrdnance on Gunbroker. They specialize in selling A1 furniture, and they have pictures of individual parts with accurate descriptions, so you can pick what one you really want.

Since none of the pre-A2s had selector text on the right side of their lowers, there was no need for the notched safety. I think you can still get A1 safeties that are smooth (with the added benefit of being able to switch to position three, though it does nothing but act as another safety position).
