Bought a maverick 88 12gauge today. Spread was still decent at the furthest distance at the range. Thoughts on this death dealer?

Good starter shotgun. I personally love mossberg
Enjoy you're new firearm
>>29815080
get a sling and you are done
if you want a different shot pattern try different brands of ammo
all of em pattern different
i cant recommend any brands since all barrels will act different its a trial and error process
I am thinking of buying one of these as well, what's the catch to the low price? Also can I find one of these at a local gun store without too much issue?

Got used to the kick really fast! I enjoyed shooting it immensely.
>>29815180
No catch. Just a solid, simple shotgun. 30 minutes of background check and forms in Dick's today.
>>29815180
>what's the catch to the low price?
its made in mexico
its slightly less customizable
less machining steps are done to the the receiver
no safety slot or drilled and tapped screws on the top
if you want to change the forend you have to replace the whole assembly instead of just the forend like you would on a moss
safety is in a different location
as a gun you buy and leave alone its great if you want to customize just buy the moss

A good no frills shotgun. Mine has served me well for 10 years and thousands of rounds.

>the catch
It's not as customizable as the 5xx series. For instance, the 88s forend grip cannot be easily removed. But most people don't change that stuff anyway.
I have an older model 88 that my grandfather then brother owned. It's a solid firearm.

The Maverick line of shotguns are assembled in Eagle Pass, Texas using some parts manufactured outside of the United States, mainly from Mexico; which contributes to their relatively lower price in comparison to the Mossberg 500 series of shotguns, which is entirely domestically manufactured and assembled at the O.F. Mossberg & Sons factory in Connecticut.
I want a shotgun and I want a really nice shotgun. Not for home defense or anything, but to add a shotgun to the collection/possible wall piece. Any recommendations are appreciated.
This store/dude is local so I can always settle for it. Price range is max 1k USD

>i want a really nice shotgun
>only has 1k
pick one
>>29815447
Well, kinda nice then?
I want to shoot it for fun as well so not super fancy
>>29815872
then get a cheap shotgun.
>>29815992
Alright fine. What's a cheapo shotty fun, for under 1k that I can look at with mild pleasure?
>>29816020
That's completely subjective m8. I'm having above average pleasure looking at this moss 88 12 gauge.
Can you get a slug barrel for the 88?

yes

Stoeger coach gun
Nice.i bought traded my sewer pipe m44 for a savage 350.sadley what i thought was a couple of pits and scatches in the barrel.i called up warranty to get a new barrel.i sent it in only for it to come back with a new coat of paint.just on the barrel though. Still love it ,one tank of a gun and still shoots good groups.

I'm so sad about how pricey sxs guns are. The Hickok video gave me such a boner

Along these lines, I like this a lot!

I've had mine for about 8 years and it's never failed me. I've treated it like a dirty little whore and it always asks for more.
Just bought one the other day too , online. Waiting impatiently for the FFL to get it so I can shoot my first shotgun.

Pretty much everything already mentioned, but it also seems to me that the receiver is a little less durable. Mine's wearing pretty bad in spots. May just be mossys in general though, my 590A1 is a little rough in spots too.
