Like so many before you, Silent Hill beckons you, and it's a summons you simply cannot refuse.
Unlike so many before you, however, you had enough sense to bring a gun, along with as much ammo as you can carry.
What gun do you bring?
Things to keep in mind: the monsters of Silent Hill are inhumanly tough, and as such can survive being shot repeatedly. On top of that, they have a worrying tendency to feign death. Additionally, you have no idea how long you'll be there and how many freaks you'll have to put down. It would be a real shame for your journey to be cut short, all because you ran out of bullets and were mauled by twitching abominations literally pulled straight from your own nightmares.
Personally, I'm thinking either a large bore hunting rifle, like a 45-70, or a 12 gauge just for versatility's sake. Buckshot for standard monsters, and slugs for when something really nasty inevitably decides to make an appearance.

I'd probably bring my AK. Would probably also have my Px4 with me because I'm not going to some blatantly spooky ass place I'd actually take my rifle without a sidearm as well.
If I could take something fictional then either a caster (outlaw star) and/or DC-17m.
If I could prepare with total disregard of realism, I'd prolly go with a set similar to pick related.
-Hushy 9mm SMG = light, effective, doesn't attract attention.
-12ga super shorty = for CQC, or to open them pesky doors with broken locks.
-The town mysteriously provides plenty of ammo for both!
-Some melee alternatives hanging on the belts, just in case.
-Dark clothes + NVGs = totally OP during night / indoors.
-Plenty of alternative light sources and spare batteries.
-Light armor set, to give me an edge against people who've gone nuts, and like to shoot people just because the way they look at them.
-Some C4 and detonators, because fuck looking for keys or going around obstacles.
...if reality's a bitch, then I'd just grab muh AK and Mossberg, pull on some kevlar, throw a hand-axe + coffee thermos + some camping gear into my back-bag, and go check out the damn place.
If silent hill monsters like lord of the rings with tom bombidali where an older weapon that them sgould be able to hurt them then id just go down there with my confederate navy colt and nugget

Assuming I could take any gun, I'd choose a 12 gauge Remington 870 shotgun with a .44 mag Ruger Redhawk sidearm. Both have the power to knock anything down, although the 12 gauge would be a little too weighty if I had to move quickly

And after going deeper into the tunnels, the player actually explores an area that looks like a mine, goes down a mine shaft elevator and all that. Seeing as Silent Hill is a physical manifestation of your inner problems including but not limited to doubts, regrets, fears, denials, etc, I think my Silent Hill would be full of strange versions of me, from every night that I go to sleep. It would be completely devoid of other humans, to further drive home the empty populated isolation. As many as I've fallen asleep in my life, all empty, different ages, and displaying openly all the behaviors I dislike in myself/personal failures/shames. They would all be dead "me" from every time my consciousness ends (like eleportation or star-trek transporters, the "you" is destroyed while another is created), all trying to overwhelm me with the pointlessness of human existence, the endless depth of despair that is the dilemma of ephemeral and finite life, all trying to get me to give up and stop creating more "me". There would probably also be some unseen entity/entities always beyond my sight, hearing, but always close, that I would be unable to kill by any means. It would never stop, never behave predictably, and never hint at being anything real or possible in a world governed by laws of nature/science.
Also dogs. Lots of dogs. All kinds of dogs, always barking and drooling.
I would probably bring my AR-15, plenty of ammo, anything to make light/fire, paper/pen, provisions, and most of all I'd bring anything that would help me solve my Silent Hill. Probably chocolate bars and energy drinks.
