The 40 is in no way practical for CC unless you're a huge guy who wears XXL jackets/shirts. Your best bet is to go for the 29 for concealment.
However, if you were me and had the money to afford the 40, I'd buy the 40 in a heartbeat.

I too think it is bullshit but have never had any real issue with it. I know a few old timers that swore off S&W once they started putting on the locks. Most seem to have no issue whatsoever with Bill Ruger and his various anti-gun statements though.
