QTDDTOT:

so /k/ my collection is lacking a lever action. looking through, minus the 22lr, most seem to be really expensive eaters. any recommendations on a good lever action caliber for someone that doesnt handload?

A Henry .38sp/.357
>>
.44 mag Hornady LeveRevolution ammo is reasonably priced, and a heck of a lot more capable than .22lr...

.38/.357 isn't too bad, and for a proper rifle cartridge .30-30 doesnt hurt to much, $12-$16/20 depending on area and time of the year (usually cheaper when not durr season)

You should reload anyways for it's super cheap to shoot lever actions if you do.
This is coming from someone who shoots 45LC all day everyday in his rifle/revolver.

The cheapest would be .357/38 special if it's old Marlin,Winchester(New Winchesters are good but made in Japan.) and Henry if you don't mind reloading by taking out the tub.
>>
>>29804414
2015 and newer marlins are fine.
technically second half of 2014s are also.
>>
>>29804152
Dude, just get a Henry .22 lever action. 22 levers are a total riot to shoot.
>>
44 mag vs 45 lc for hunting if im handloadin?
>>
Just got an AK, my first rifle. Need suggestions on a muzzle break
>>
>>29804569
>hunting and handloading
the answer is .30-30, .35 Remington, or .45-70.
>>
>>29804569
>>29804710
Due to the nature of the thread, i assumed you meant lever gun, if that is the case, the rifle calibers still stand, if you meant handguns, then i would go .44

Value on this turd? Colt 1991A1 series 80 with aftermarket front and rear sights...

I'm thinking around $600. How do these compare to other similarly priced 1911's? I'm probably going to replace the fun bits with Wilson combat/Ed Brown, but idk if it'll be worth it.
>>
>>29804304

As someone who's owned many 1911s,
You probably want a Remington R1 or an R1 Enhanced.

Colt 1991s are good too.

RIAs have break in periods, and may not work right out of the box.
Auto ordnance is okay, but the trigger is heavy, and their new trigger design has very sharp and uncomfortable edges.
>>
Get any Henry lever action. I have a .22lr and a .30-30 and both are the smoothest levers I've ever shot. F-ing beautiful to boot.

>>29804992
Well the answer then is a lever gun in a rifle round.
>>
>>29804152
It's time to start reloading, Anon. I get to enjoy shooting very hot 45-70 for less than 50 cents a round. Honestly, I'd only get a lever action for 45-70.

I'm going to watch my uncle's house next week while he's out of town. He lives in a pretty rough area and has been broken into before, hence why he's wanting me to stay there. I'm taking my AR to make sure some meth head doesn't bash my head in with a tire iron so he can strip the copper from the walls or some shit. What are some good .223 HD rounds I could pick up, just in case?
>>
>>29805185
FMJs are fine, some HPs if you want, i prefer heavier grains myself.

Reposting from the pistol thread that died; Anyone have any experience with Uberti? I'm eyeing one of their cattlemans or a .38 Army/Navy. I seem to have developed a western/cowboy fetish and feel I need a range toy to satisfy it.

>>29804152
whats the word on those lever action mare legs that shoot like 3 different cartridges?
those always looked fun but the only ones I saw were the Rossi brand, which turns out are subsidiary of Taurus or something.

>>29804503
i'd want a .22 for plinking while hiking, but dont want to lug a rifle necessarily. are the .22 levers small enough for a backpack? .22 revolvers felt pretty fucking shit when I finally held one, but im open to it if its cheap.
>>
Looking for a nice handgun to CC for protection and shit. I really like CZ's, and i don't really care about 9mm or .45 but I already have a bunch of 9mm in my ammo crates, don't ask.

Recommendations? I really want a Hi-Power, but i think i'm gonna save that to buy for collection rather than self defense RIGHT NOW.

But yeah, CZ75s look good and aren't very expensive, is that a good idea?

I'd even take a Mak, I love those fucks.
>>
>>29805845
Not unless they make a takedown that I'm not aware of. They're still carbines with 16" barrels at the shortest
>>
>>29805858
CZs are literal shit.
they are a meme gun, because not too long ago a brand new one was $350, and for that price, not to bad
>buy muh inflation
CZs have nearly doubled in price (while glocks/sig/ect have gone up about 15% in the same time) and they are just as badc if not worse, stay away from CZs at least for a SD firearm, if you want one just because, save it for your next purchase.
really a G19/M&P/PX4/sig P2022 are all better, and cheaper.
>>
>>29805944
>CZs are literal shit.
why?
>>
>>29805858
Can't speak for the CZ as I haven't owned one. But I regularly carry a makarov with pearce grips, heaver spring, and hornady jhp.

Coyotes rarely break 50 lbs. You can pop em with a 9mm and it will be more than sufficient.

Any .223 or 5.56 is going to do the job with ease, no need to use snazzy ammo your plinking ammo will do fine.
>>
>>29805996
Unreliable, parts break easily.
theres a reason glocks and M&Ps dominate the SD market, because they are affordable, and as reliable as a machine can be, even when CZs were affordable, they had at best 5% of the SD market, why? Because they are unreliable.
>>
>>29806026
What kind of mak do you own? What would you recommend i buy?

Is CZ ever going to make more stocks for the scorpion?

I got one of the recent Bulgarian imports. Any of them would be fine I'm sure, but I like the ballistics of 9x18 better than .380. J&G and other places still have them in stock at $300. Classic has them for $320 for no reason.

How should I break in my new leather holster and belt? Is it literally just wearing it around a lot practicing drawing and reholstering?

Rossi 92 in 38/357. Pretty cheap, fun as hell to shoot.

Get some mink oil (liquid, not solid) oil it up, inside and out, and put your gun in there, then use something with nice round edges, and press the leather into all the nooks and crannies if your gun, along the edges, ect. Let it sit a day wirh the gun in it,do that about 3 times, and just oil it every now and then, the mink oil helps break it in, and keep it supple and from drying out, as well as waterproofs it.
bearfat is better, if you can find it.

>>29808821
good price, pity the ammo is so expensive. did good tho anon.

>>29805273
Green tips are mediocre as fuck, he might as well just pick up a box of Wolf SPs or HPs for what it's worth.

>>29806408

I've heard the Walther P1 was nicknamed "Eight Warning Shots & An Aimed Throw" by the East German infantry during the Cold War, why was this? To my knowledge, the inherent accuracy was fine for pistol purposes.

All the cut down lever action pistols on the market are based on a gun carried by the Bounty Hunter Josh Randall played by Steve McQueen in the t.v. series Wanted Dead or Alive. Randall's Mare's Laig was a cut down Winchester 92. The gun was chambered in .44-40.

The commercially produced Mare's legs on the market are legally considered pistols, like the AR and AK pistols with short barrels and no stocks.

There are at least three companies making versions. Chiappa makes one called the Bounty Hunter based on their Winchester 92 Clone in .44 Magnum, .45 Colt and .44-40.

Rossi has a version called the Ranch Hand in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt. It's a Winchester 92 Clone.

Henry has a .22 version and a version based on their brass framed Big Boy chambered in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum or .45 Colt. The irony is while. The Henry guns are not based on the Winchester 92, they are named Mare's Leg. Henry apparently paid the rights to use the name.

I'm with you on cost. I'm looking at either a 357 or 44 mag revolver/lever combo...make them match as best I can. 44 would be more interesting but you cant get below around 45 cents a round even with 44 spc. 38/357 is hovering in the mid 20 cent range....so much less painful.

I know I'm whining (whinging?) about small differences...but those add up when you try to feed the number of calibers I'm getting to.
>>
>>29811506
If you're looking for the wheel gun/lever gun combo, get a Rossi 92 and Uberti Cattleman in .357 Magnum and shoot .38 Special.
