OP, if you don't mind something feeling a little dated then give Project Reality a try. It's an old Battlefield 2 mod where it's focused around combined arms in a realistic setting.
What's great about it is the factions you get to play as aren't just the standard USA vs Russia or USA vs Sandpeople.
Some of the more interesting factions you get to play as are France, Canada, the fucking IDF and Hamas, Taliban, China, Chechens...
It's pretty cool and 100% free. Maybe give it a try.

I modded pretty much all the health/armor/damage values in GECK for myself. I tried to achieve a perfect balance between realism and fun gameplay, but it's very easy to die.
Also added a damage over time bleeding effect on critical hits that deals the same amount of damage as a normal hit, so crits deal triple damage.

"Fallout 4" is becoming better and better with more realistic weapon and equipment mods. With proper mods, you can change the environment (summer, winter, more grass, different weather patterns, more enemies, etc), get proper uniforms (Flecktarn, MARPAT, MultiCam, etc), and have modern weapons.
One nice feature in the game is the ability to build your own villages, arm and equip the people, and defend the villages against raider attacks.

I'm very love/hate with rust. On the one hand it has bullet drop, jumpy hard to control weapons, extremely limited ammo and the world is pretty fun to skulk about in.
On the other hand, the NPC AI is godawful, the game plateaus and leaves you with nothing to do but pvp pretty quickly and I feel like theres only two ways to "win". Either by being purely malicious and existing only to destroy things other people have built, or by being the most autistic fucker in human history and spending 12 hours a day in shifts with a partner expanding repairing and guarding your NEETFORT to prevent the "malice only" players from destroying/stealing everything you have built and acquired while you sleep.
most faction "wars" I have witnessed on servers took place while one faction or the other was entirely off line and involved a bunch of walls getting blown up and then a half dozen people getting shot in their sleep.
It's fun when its actual skirmishing and pvp, but that's not what happens 95% of the time.
