Like, give dates.
I would go with the Ak-47. It is pre AR.

If not that. The sks.

The SKS is the obvious choice here. Anything else is a long, heavy battle rifle or underpowered (I'm looking at you m1 carbine).

Does the mas 49/56 qualify?
>>
>>29777377
It depends because that's such a huge span of time and there's so much changing.

>1900-1930
Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington
>1930-1940
M1 Garand
>1940-1950
M1 / M2 Carbine
>1950-1960
Armalite AR10

When you're talking a span of time that goes from broomhandle carbines to Kalashnikovs there's a huge variation.
>>
>>29777557
This is the only choice. topkek at the children who think 7,62x39mm was even an option back then.
>>
Ak 47. Duh.
>>
>>29777315
Mas 49.
>>
I'm disappointed no one has said FN FAL....
>>
>>29778017
the AK is select fire though, unless for some reason semi auto only variants were also manufactured at that time?
>>
>>29778053
Pre-AR was long before the 86 MG ban. Doesn't matter though, you'd never be ale to get your hands on one. Let alone have ANY ammunition for it. For a long time, pre Chinese importation, Lapua brass was the only ammo available and it was impossible to get. This was in the 70s/80s by the way. The US market changed when the Chinese mass exported ammo and guns to us.

In the early 50s and prior? Zero chance.
>>
>>29778119
Basically the options at the time would be:
M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Mauser, G41/G43 ( all dirtcheap btw), STG 44, Enfields (?), MG42, and a handful of others the Nazis handed over. Just look at a catalog. It's basically WW2/ prior and US or German cartridges.

Not sure on the Enfield. Those might have come later. The pact was completely out of the running for arms.

For a SHTF scenario I would probably pick a Garand or M14. Both of which are powerful enough to bring down a person or large game, and both use ammo that is widely available where I live.

That's kind of a shitty grouping. What kind of a barrel is that? I'm assuming it is not a stock barrel.

Usually the original M/31 barrels in good shape shot 30-40mm / 100m.

>>
>>29779041
The M1 carbine is better than anything available in WW2 and immediately after. It's easily the peer of the AK47 and wasn't eclipsed in utility until the AR-15 was adopted.

AK 47 has twice as many shots, bigger round, and more configurations.

Is that a FAMAS from 1949?

.30 Carbine is adequate and has less recoil than 7,62x39mm.
The M1 Carbine has/had 30rd mags.
The M1 carbine is much lighter despite being a higher quality firearm.

Tell us again how you're wrong.

So does 9mm. But sometimes, less bullet is actually less bullet.

Thanks for the laugh.

Also worth noting, .30 Carbine is more size efficient meaning it is superior logistically too.

I own and shoot all 3 calibers.
If you choose .30 Carbine of the 3 to shoot at people, you're a retarded.
>>
>>29778027
That would be my choice, since I'M hearing that the army left a bunch of the L1A1 SLRs in bunkers in the 60s and never went back for them. If that's even remotely true, they'll all be rusted as fuck by now. Shame.

.30 Carbine is lighter and more compact meaning you can carry more ammo. 7,62x39mm didn't even exist back then in the US meaning you'd have a club if you could find a genie to give you an AK47.

I thought we were talking guns that exist now that were invented before 63.

Anyways, the Carbine is lighter, but you also have to deal with the objectively worse sights and the more lube intensive Garand action. And I don't trust .30 Carbine at 200-300 yards like I do 7.62x39

I'd rather have the SKS- heavier, but in a better round, with open sights and can run dry. If I only have one rifle to defend myself and my family, as well as hunt with, there's no question.

also, posting pic to show I have much experience with both, love them both, and am not talking out of my ass.
>>
>>29781730

luckily, thinking about ammo requirements in some catastrophic situation is retarded, because you'll probably be relegated to using whatever you have stockpiled.
