Went to a range for a first time ever today to shoot my AR15, but got to shoot an AK47. The guys were talking about the "newer" AK74, but which one is better? Which one do you like, and why?

Technically the 74 as it is a more modern design but both are nearly identical minus one firing a .22 caliber bullet and the other a .30 caliber bullet

I prefer the 74 because 5.45x39 is a really neat and fun to shoot cartridge and because the 74 is more aesthetically pleasing to me. But, if I could only have one, it'd be a 47/AKM simply due to ammo being everywhere. I own both, love both, and although I buy 90% of my ammo online it is nice being able to buy a box or two of 7.62x39 at Walmart whenever I feel like it and I cannot do that with 5.45

Is the kick actually that much less on the 74? I shot the 47 today and it had hella kick, where it was making it somewhat uncomfortable to shoot for an extended period.

It feels like you're shooting a laser beam. There is no recoil outside of a tiny bump on your shoulder. The standard 74 brake does an outstanding job at keeping the muzzle very still
I know one thing people love about the 47 much more than AR15's is that the AK47 can be treated like dirt, literally put mud/sand/shit through it and it'll still fire like a champ. Is reliability the same, or close? Or would I have to baby the 74 like my AR15?

The "correct" length of pull is designed by manlets for manlets and is perfect for short people like myself but tall Americans may want a longer (NATO length) stock or a recoil pad.
Is there any brands I should go with/avoid? For either 47 or 74? I heard Century has some issues in the past.
