First the Russians tested one successfully last week and now the chinks have tested one as well. Americans still can't figure this shit out (I blame it on the low IQ of the population but that's another story for another thread).

Anyway, Bill Gertz (who else?) has the goods. Gertz is really tight with Pentagon.

It's useful to the US for the global strike initiative. basically be want to be able to hit any raghead on earth in an hour

for the chinks its a ballistic missile that can't be intercepted. At least I don't think it can. Maybe at the boost phase.

It's already China's seventh test so far, and the sixth successful one.

I'd say that in terms of development ranking:

China >> Russia (at least one successful) >>>>> USA (none successful)

USAF agreed,

Every nation develops the weapons it can afford, when it needs them, to counter the threats it faces.

The US stuck with the Harpoon AShM for over thirty years, because it took that long for any other Navy to deploy a defense system that required something better than a Harpoon. And as soon as that happened, the US promptly developed a new generation of AShMs to deal counter it.

The Soviets, meanwhile, had to keep upgrading their AShMs to keep up with USN AD. And in the same period the US itself kept innovating and upgrading its AD systems.

Same thing here. There's no reason to think the US cannot into hypersonics. In fact the US has prototyped several such systems over the years. They've just never thrown real money at hypersonics because they haven't yet met an enemy worthy of such a weapon.

Clearly, the Chinese have met such an enemy. And the day the Chinese become such an enemy, it's certain that the US will have the weapons to fight them.

Not so hard considering the distances involved. Consider that even accelerating to mach 6 is going to take a minute or two a carrier could easily turn ninety degrees and push to full throttle before the warhead hits.

Come to think of it, Mach 6 is pretty slow for ICBMs which re-enter the atmosphere at something like mach 23.

India has had an endo-atmospheric, Hypersonic Missile since 2011, and it is already inducted into service.

What exactly is the big deal about Hypersonics? This seems like old technology.
>>
>>29761037
We can defend against it simply by maneuvering. It's unpowered, so every maneuver it has to make costs speed and altitude that can't be regained.
>>
>>29762944
>This seems like old technology

It really is. Chinks are just retarded and being paid to post, part of the $.50 army. There is nothing impressive about this in the slightest, and as you have shone Hypersonic Missiles are easily doable by any country that really wants them.

Hypersonic is just a missile at Mach +5. More propellant, less payload. Boom.

>>29762411
>dodging something flying at Mach 6.

Easy. CSG gets notification within 90 secons of launch, turns toward the launch site. It's an unpowered projectile, every maneuver you force it to make costs it velocity that it can't regain. Another way is to launch an interceptor to force it to maneuver. It loses speed every time it turns. That translates into shorter range, higher probability of being intercepted, less chance of hitting the target, and less damage if it does hit.

It's not some silver bullet, it's just another way of making expensive splashes in the ocean. It's the wrong system for countering carriers. It would be better suited to interdicting static targets.

America has only ever fought poor rice farmers and angry goat herders in the past 70 years. I doubt that is going to change anytime soon.

Not in a western sense.

In US-centric forces like South Korea, Europe, and America, obviously, NCOs are there to execute plans devised by the officers and be the bulwark for the morale of the men under them. They are essentially interpret the orders given to them and accomplish the objective the best way possible with their known resources. That are good at this.

Chinese NCOs are basically yes men for the officer corps. Little more than commissars or political officers. They are the eyes and ears of the officers, there to make sure nobody steps out of line, and to beat them into submission when they do.

The American NCO corps is a relatively new idea, but has proven absolutely key in basically every conflict since WWI, which makes sense as it became the norm to offload some responsibility of officers onto senior enlisted with the mass casualties sustained during the period, with large numbers of, usually difficult to replace noble, officers being killed.

Look at Saudi Arabia, they're fighting fucking Houthis with the same tech America has and are still getting fucking shrekt. They also aren't waging a "limited war" like the US is either. They are legitimately being bogged down by fucking desert hobos. It's because they have no real NCO corps and their officer corps is based on how much royal Saudi blood you have.

Same reason why Iraqis ran from ISIS. Politicians purged a large amount of American trained Iraqi NCOs and never bothered to adopt the model as a whole.

Hell by the time all this gets on ships it'll probably be part of an automatic missile shield so operators probably won't even need to do anything but maintenance.

Future war is awesome but boring.
