Isoroku Yamamoto.jpg

>A post-mortem of the body disclosed that Yamamoto had received two 0.50-caliber bullet wounds, one to the back of his left shoulder and another to his left lower jaw that exited above his right eye. The Japanese navy doctor examining the body determined that the head wound killed Yamamoto.

Combined Fleet Commander-in-Chief Yamamoto was literally headshotted by a .50 BMG from a P-38. Was there a higher-ranking KIA in the 20th century?

Was his plan the only way Japan would have won world war 2?
>>
>>29752093
>Japan ever having a chance at winning WW2
>>
>>29751090
that's fucking brutal.
could you imagine how big of a badass that pilot was when he came back?
he killed fucking yamamoto.
>>
>>29754511
the pilots spent the next ten years arguing over which one of them killed him it was actually pretty pathetic
>>
>>29754507
They won the ground battle at least which is why after America suffered unfathomable casualties they decided a mainland invasion wasn't worth the cost of lives and just dropped the bomb instead
>>
>>29754522
Whew
>>
>>29754522
>They won the ground battle

I'm sorry which ground battle did they win? Because the only one where the US took more casualties than the Japs was Iwo Jima, and the US still won the island.

And for all the casualties they took against the Japs, they took roughly 4 1/2 times more against the Germans.
>>
>Was there a higher-ranking KIA in the 20th century?

It's the highest rank you can get.

The only other one I know of was Kitchener (The guy from the YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU posters)

>They won the ground battle

Those massive stalemates in China? Burma?
Those Islands slowly retaken by the US armed forces?
The Philippines?
The Iwo Jima and Okinawa? Which is Nip territory?
The annihilation of the Kwantung Army in Manchuria?

Sir Henry Lovell Goldsworthy Gurney was killed by communists in Malaya in the 50's.

He ran across a killing zone to draw fire away from his wife and his secretary.

He was also the last knight to die in combat.
>>
>>29752093
His plan was to send Kaga and Akagi to Pearl and launch about 50 torpedo bombers on an unescorted suicide run.
>>
>>29754562
He's got a massive hat.
>>
>>29754564
Don't forget the part where the carriers were scuttled for lack of fuel after the attack because at the time they couldn't scrap together enough fleet oilers to get them back to Japan.
>>
>>29754562
:( RIP
>>
>>29754564
Still probably the plan with the highest chance of working.
>>
>>29754567
That's a proper hat for an Imperial
>>
>>29754567
That's how you know he's in charge
>>
>>29754522
>they won the ground battle
Ignoring all of the facts other anons posted
>caused Americans to not invade, but instead NUKE THEM
Some success, huh?
>>
>>29754567
uuuu
>>
>>29754593
The US managed to kill more civilians in okinawa than soldiers
>>
>>29754628
More like they killed themselves.
>>
>>29754628
protip: less nips is a good thing
>>
>>29754653
Eh, you're kinda hard pressed to call them nips.

I don't think they spoke an exchangeable dialect of Japanese.
>>
>>29754648
This, desu. We weren't in the business of killing civilians unless it was carpet bombing cities from above.
>>
>>29754673
They more supported China than anything else since they had open trade with them while Japan has closed off but 20k of the defending army was okinawan

>Stalemates are victories

Careful you might bust open his weaboo fantasy delusion.
>>
>>29754788
Stalemate usually count as victories for the defending territory. Look at Ukraine and Russias inability to actually set foot in there outside of " rebel forces". They haven't actually made any advancements at all. Only 1 area defecting
