What does /k/ think of striker fired handguns? What are, in your opinion, the best striker fired guns and how do they compare to hammer fired handguns?

Also on a side note I'm looking at a SIG P320-C for a CCW, is that a good choice?

Striker fired handguns work, but hammer guns are cool too.
>>
>>29750908

HAMMER IS BETTER BECAUSE YOU CAN REST THE TRIGGER, AND THEN JERK IT WHILE YOU WAIT TO ACTUALLY PULL THE TRIGGER

STRIKER IS BETTER BECAUSE YOU CAN STICK IT UP YOUR DILLY WACKER

YOU DECIDE

P320 is damn nice, I just can't get over how proportional the grip looks, especially on the fullsize.

>>29750959
disproportional*

Striker fired handguns are very good in that they are generally very reliable and require less maintenance. They will shoot when you need them to. That being said, I carry a hammer fired pistol because I don't mind performing the maintenance and enjoy the shorter trigger break i.e. accuracy.
I don't have any experience so I can't comment on the P320.
>>
>>29750959
OP here, I really think the Compact model looks the best but the full size looks good too
>>
Striker fired pistols are fine, a Glock is a great all around handgun. But I personally only own DA/SA pistols.

>Mark 23
>P6
>Makarov(s)
>P30
>FNX-9

These are the pistols I own and all of them have manual safties, and a decocker which are 2 things I personally like in a gun.

There's nothing inherently bad or good about striker-fired vs. hammer-fired. You can make a good, reliable gun in either design. That said, IN GENERAL, hammer-fired pistols have a better trigger pull and are more reliable in water and mud.

Apples to oranges but if you insist. Hammer fired guns are generally bigger than striker fired guns.

Hammer fired guns have much better triggers and are safer to carry. That being said, striker fired guns are perfectly safe to carry if you aren't retarded.

I really like DA/SA over striker but you can't beat something small like an M&P Shield. If I lived in a colder area where I could get away with a bigger gun, I would buy a P239 or a P2000SK

Hammer is cooler but striker is more practical.
This is speaking generically of course but they both rely on a spring. The real difference is whether you want the pin in contact with the spring or propelled suddenly by a hammer which is attached to the spring?
It makes all of fuck all difference at the end of the day but some people prefer a SAO and a DA/SA to avoid a safety but still the SA is when the hammer is nicer than the striker but strikers often don't have the hard break point that you find in an SA which means that errors associated with the SA break don't happen in a striker but you do get the errors associated with a DA only on a much much smaller scale, or somewhere in between.

I say striker systems are more practical because they seem to be simpler and stronger too, they're more of a no nonsense go bang gun where as hammer fired guns are more... "artsy"?

I prefer striker-fired because of lower maintenance and the fact that without an external hammer you can get a super low bore axis such as with this Glock 17 for more in-line recoil that reduces muzzle flip.

Pictured are my 2 handguns.

They are both new Sigs of very similar proportion and capacity. They feel about the same to carry.
Let us compare:

>sig 320
About $600 iirc
Has a short reset trigger
Has a polymer frame
Is lighter.
Is comfy to shoot and extremely accurate.
Sight hold is POI = POA, same as a Glock.
Trigger is excellent.

>sig 229 Legion
About $1100 iirc
Has a short reset trigger
Has a metal frame
Is heavier, thanks partially to the solid and heavy guide rod (legion upgrade)
Is super comfy to shoot thanks to the Legion g10 handles which are fatter near the top than the 320's grip.
Sight hold is "combat sight picture" meaning the front post goes over the target.

I will subjectively compare the difference. The weight of the 229 along with the g10 handles and upgraded xray3 sights make it a nicer shooting, period. However, the single action trigger itself does not feel better nor have a noticeably shorter reset than the 320's excellent striker fired trigger. I find that I almost always choose to carry the 320 over the 229 because it's a simpler, lighter, striker fired gun and I tend to keep the legion as more of a safe queen.
Hope that helps, if not then go rent some.

I've always wondered this, but what's the point in buying a legion over a normal Sig

x-ray 3 sights are really really nice.
Solid guide rod ads weight to the front and makes the gun nicer shooting.
G10 grips are better.
There's extra stippling cut into the frame and the trigger guard is under cut which apparently some prefer, its' all extra machining.
It comes with an upgraded short reset trigger and the SAO legions have a match grade trigger.

It also comes with 3 mags instead of just 1 or 2 like other sigs.
It also comes with an upgraded case but that's stupid IMO.

Subjectively, I also like the grey nitron and medallion in the grip.

I was sighting in my AR and resting my hands on the bench took a few shots with the pistols at 25 yards. These were my results with them. I'd say I did a little better with the 229 but not really.
>>
>>29750959
P320 was easily the most disappointing handgun I've ever fired.
I fired the full size and the compact and it was just shit to me, trigger felt awful, grip felt really cheap.
Just my experience, ymmv.
>>
>>29751417
That's fine to say but doesn't mean much without what gun do you prefer over it?
>>
>>29751429
I own a 226 equinox and a 229 elite, same size as both those but with their obvious differences and mine were miles ahead of the 320.
I'd almost go so far as to say i feel glocks have a better trigger.

As for personal preference I'd say I like shooting CZs and berettas the most.

>I'd almost go so far as to say i feel glocks have a better trigger.
Dude, I've owned a ton of Glocks. After shooting the 320 I got rid of them. Maybe you had a crude filled rental or something, I don't know. The ONLY thing Glock beats it at is aftermarket and that's a significant thing worth considering. 320 comes with better sights, night sights at that, a better trigger, better grip and you can change out not just the back strap but the whole damn frame, they're like $40 bucks.
http://www.selwayarmory.com/shop-by-category/firearms-parts/sig-sauer-parts-and-tools/sig-sauer-p250p320-grip-modules.html

If you really do have the Equinox and Elite those are some nice shooting guns though, they'll make most others not feel so impressive.
>>
Hammer is better because you can cock it during a tense scene in a movie
Striker is fine because you can get your sound guys to edit in the cocking noise anyway
>>
>>29751588
I'd probably agree with you about the rentals. They had just gotten them that day and I think of was the 2nd renter. Maybe they just had a different break in period or something.
Like I said kind of disappointing but I guess that could be a number of things.
>>
>>29751588
Ehh I've also shot both and partially agree with you, but I'll still take a modded glock every time. Slap some tritium sights and an upgraded trigger on a glock and it's pretty damn nice to shoot imo.
