So, I've decided that by the years end I'm going to buy a new rifle. I've narrowed it down to three choices. All three I equally want.

So, opinions and first hand experience with any of theses three are welcomed in helping me make my decision for setting my goal.

1.) Steyr AUG with a top rail instead of a scope

2.) Beretta ARX100

3.) CZ Bren 805 S1 carbine.

What are you going to do with it? Target practice? Home defense? Hunting?
>>
They're all garbage except the AUG.
Just wait for the MDR like everyone else.
>>
>>29749427
Either the AUG or the Bren.
The Beretta seems like the Ergos would be shit.
>>
>>29749732
we have one of the ARX-160 pistols at the shop and can confirm it's a brick even in pistol .22lr format
Would recommend AUG, OP, extremely reliable and pretty simple to break down
>>
Get the 20" AUG for full velocity 5.56 in a 31" package.
>>
>>29749694
HD, hiking, possible truck gun, hopefully a little shooting competition next year(if all goes well this year).
>>

I have a Steyr AUG but none of the others so I can't compare.

My opinions are:

1) The Steyr AUG is over-engineered as fuck. Every single part in the rifle including springs feels like they sat there and said "How big/thick/heavy should we make this part to ensure than it NEVER fails?" Then they went ahead and made the part even bigger/heavier/thicker.

One of the test of the Steyr is to run it over with a tank and see if it still works. It always passes.

2) Because it is over-engineered and over-built the AUG is heavy as fuck. The center of gravity is much closer to you, so it is more "point-able", but it is still a heavy rifle by any standard.

3) If you ever intend to resell the rifle, the model with the 3x scope built in will probably hold value the best, as it is closest to the original AUG A1. Also, mounting a red-dot sight or reflex sight on top of the 3x scope gives you a pretty badass dual-optic set up with one for fast, close range targets and the 3x scope for quick shots at objects further away. You may have your own ideas on optics though so w/e

Thought so.
Also using this post to turn off my trip.

Is there anything good about them in terms of weight/Ergos?
>>
>>29749794
My dream AUG is an O.D. green, flat top with a 20" barrel.
>>
>>29749427
Don't get the Bren. Dumbest handguard design of any modern rifle.

Jesus Fuck! Seriously? I gotta see this. Links?

I can't remember where the fuck I read that but my google-fu is failing me.

Which, the ARX or the AUG?
ARX is truly ambi, and that's the real positive with that one.
The AUG is easier to break down & more reliable

http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-7145.html

Which seems to be the mantra of the "My AKM is just as good as your AUG" crowd. There are irons on top of that rail. But they have a short sight radius. Thankfully the optics are virtually indestructable. Again I've seen PEs of a AUG run over by a truck and the optics did NOT break.

Getting closer, might have been a truck not a tank, which is actually better, since I think pressure/square inch is higher with a truck tire than a tank tread.

Me too, the 20" seems much more uncommon though. Kinda surprised
>>
>>29749969
>>29749909
Pretty awesome honestly. I never really invest a whole lot of time researching the reliability of the rifle. Just took it as kind of a given if there is so many countries that are currently using it.

>>29749981
The current selling point is how compact it is with a 16in barrel. And I can't really argue with it either. As much as I REALLY want a 20in, I'm leaning more towards a 16in as it really does have more usability than a 20in. The 20in would be great for just a hiking rifle though.
>>
I kinda remember MAC saying how you could not disassemble the bolt carrier assembly without sending it for repairs

could be outdated info though, who knows
>>
>>29749427
AUG is the only real choice, and I am not a fan of bullpups.

The ARX100 and the Bren are just to rough. Both rushed to market far, far too quickly. The Steyr is a refinement of well wrung out design.
>>
>>29749729
is the MDR going to be good? thinking about getting it when it comes out in the next few months
>>
>>29751209
>coming out in a few months
sure it is
And im sure in large quantities
>>
>>29751222
I know they said they would release it last year, but its most likely going to come out "in mid 2016" they said.

I mean if they lied again they know their business is going to be a lot less than it could be, so in all likeliness its coming out in a few months.
>>
>>29750071

I own a 16" carbine already, and I wish I'd gone with rifle length instead. That extra zip would come in handy with the excellent .223 hunting bullets. Plus, the 20" AUG would still be just a bit shorter than my 16" AR.

Fuck, now I really want one. AUGs use a rotating bolt for lock up, right? What is there sandard barrel twist, and how's the accuracy on them with heavier match ammo?
>>
They don't sell the 805 Bren in anything but full auto.

And I don't think they are imported to the US at all
>>
>>29751307
They have been selling the Bren 805 as a pistol for a year now and they Bren 805 S1 carbine literally just hit the shelves this month. Price so far is about 1800-1900 for right now.

>>29751291
Yep, rotating bolt. 1:7 if memory serves. 20in barrels can be had from Steyr to the tune of around 580 I think.
>>
>>29749732

Having gotten the chance to shoot one, this is not true.

They are not nearly as bad as they look and are quite delightful to shoot. Would 110% recommend especially over OP's other choices.
>>
>>29749941
>AUG is more reliable
Literally zero evidence for this "fact."

The ARX100 has been passing mud dust and sand tests with flying colors, doing better than the SCAR in some cases.
Do a youtube

Yeah, the ARX is universally loved and out performs the SCAR. Pic related

>>29749427
I have never held nor seen any of these rifles. But still.

>>29749427
aug -> unfamiliar controls to someone used to the standard ar layout. might be a little too much for someone who just wants a range shooter
arx100 -> literally heard nothing positive about it
bren805 -> why pay 2 grand for an outdated design thats replaced before its sold to the public (see bren 806)
id choose the aug out of those 3, but if you want an overpriced snowflake 223 shooter id seriously consider a scar
>>
>>29749427
>why not a scar 17s?
>>
>>29749427
An RDB seems like a good option if you can find one. Seems dirt-simple, relatively reliable, and sufficiently accurate. Decent price for an interesting platform. I'm not sure if its Kel-technology shilling or genuine, but people seem to like it.
>>
>>29749427
get the beretta because it's cuter than all the others

Steyr is coming out with 400 40th anniversary STG 77's.

>Skinny A1 Style Scope With No Rails But Removable Like The M1 Scope

You guys realize that the Bren 805 is literally a Czech made MK16s right?
