I was a US Navy Sailor stationed in Japan for a few years. On night, my buddy and I were looking for a place to eat. We ducked into what we thought was an izakaya but were startled to see about 50 older people sitting around singing karaoke. It didn't appear to be a business so maybe it was some kind of community club. A couple folks got up so that we could sit down and we were passed some squid jerky and kirin. We sat and tried to be polite, half listening to the karaoke singers. Then, a really old guy got up and said something I didnt understand. The woman next to me said "He is 97 years old" which means he was in the war. He started singing and then turned and pointed at me and my friend. I looked up at the karaoke screen and saw some really old footage of japs loading bombs onto planes and then those planes launching off a carrier. I didnt understand all the lyrics at the time but It was pretty obvious that this guy was singing a war time song AT ME. My buddy and I found the song later and it talks about destroying all of Japan's enemies and how the empire will never be defeated. Best day of my life.
