Haven't seen an Australia thread in a while.

Did you attend a service today?
How are you celebrating today?
Will be bumping with Australian/ANZAC related stuff. Let's not worry about the NFA for a bit.

I have a broken tooth and I hate the dentist more than I hate pain, so I'm in pain right now. I shouldn't say right now, I broke it about a year ago so the pain comes and goes.

Work on Sat was tight, did something different and hosted a Cat M crossbow course. It's growing so hopefully in a year or two we may have a small community of crossbow people.

>>
There is a rifle you all have made by someone starting with a W.

It looks like an AR but it has a sidecharger and looks more like an AR18 style mechanism but is straight pull apparently.

Do they make those in semi automatic
>>
>>29730795
Na mate.
>>
>>29730800
Warwick firearms. WFA1 and no they don't make it in semi automatic. They had to make sure that it couldn't be converted to a semi auto to get it passed in most of our states
>>
>>29730814

I'd like to hear from a competent gunsmith what the practicalities of such a conversion would be.
>>
>>29730800
Warwick have made real ARs before but they're ungodly expensive, like $7000
>>
>>29730823
I would love one of the Warwick WFA guns in semi auto. It looks like a cool design but if there is no provisions for a gas tube or something I have no idea how it would work.

Someone should make a copy in semiauto and sell it here.

Can you/they get semiautos with a license or special paperwork or is it just banned outright?
>>
>>29730822
I don't know why you would bother really.
>>
>>29730839
Semi auto rim fire is cat c
Semi auto centrefire is cat d
Both are unavailable to recreational shooter's
>>
>>29730823
>>29730839
I have used a few of the Warick AR's, well the first batch they came out with, apparently the newer ones are a different design.
They work well enough and do the job, they are DI and I personally prefer piston, but as I said they do the job.

>>29730839
Yes and no. You can get semi auto if you "need" it. So primary producers can get them if they have a pest problem, and professional cullers.
I have a semi auto licence but as a firearm safety instructor, so those guys go through me first. The shitty thing is that an instructor can't get an import permit approved, whereas they can.
So I'm stuck with old shitty stuff and then they get nice new stuff.
>>
>>29730864
Interesting. Its nice to know they are not outright banned and there is ways to own them.

So would you see AK's and AR's at a standard local gun store for sale or rent? Or is it mostly the domestically produced stuff that the average joe can own like lever actions and what not?

I read on /k/ that their is no parts commonality between the EF88 (domestic) & the F90 (export). I don't know the details, so that's why I'm asking.
>>
>>29730902
Since Tasmania declared them as a pest. They have ideal growing conditions and no natural predators. So they breed in plague numbers, one of the shooter's on King Island gets around 500 every time he goes out
>>
>>29730902

Since the tasmanian tiger was hunted to extinction and there was nothing left to keep population in check.
>>
>>29730919
what is the australian equivalent of an AR15 or AK like as far as whats in common use

Is there a semi version of the F88 for sale
>>
>>29730940
None and no.

The number of people who can own shit like that in Australia is like...100
>>
>>29730940
The sks was really popular before the buy back. Now I'm not really sure since you can't use a semi auto rifle for target shooting at a range. Legally they can only be used for primary production or if you are a professional shooter and need it for culling
>>
>>29730890
Not exactly. I used to work at a large store (even by US standards) and we have a few, but generally older stuff.
A gun store can't import semi autos just because, they can only import once the customer (the farmer or culler) has been approved, so any *new* (as in factory new) semi autos in the shop will be already sold and usually picked up straight away.
Personally I've seen, shot, and handled a lot more semis than probably most Aussie shooters (aside from military) which is cool. But as a rule, lets just say no semi auto rifles or shotguns in Aus.
>>
>>29730966
>>29730962

Bolt actions really. For a while pump action rifles (the remington 7615 and 7600) were extremely popular, they still are I guess, but slowing down in sales. Lever actions.. eh they are popular but really for the older crowd.
>>
>>29730814
only to the point of where the tools and know how needed to make it semi auto could also just be used to make a whole new gun.

Also at that time they were selling PVC pipe and End caps as 'map holders' and they couldn't actually buy enough end caps from wholesalers.

>>
>>29731225
>30 round
>Cat A

try a different action type.
>>
>>29731166
640k guns were handed in. Only a 1-2 states actually kept tally of the types handed in. 3% of Victorian arms surrendered were Cat C/D
>>
>>29731276

There's no restriction on capacity for cat a
>>
>>29731276
Cat A (in queensland at least) has no magazine restriction.
It's a weird grey area though. Because you have the PWS T3 or Ruger 96/22 for example which are Cat A, so no magazine restriction right? Well the mag they use is the 10/22 magazine which is Cat C or if it was 30 round then it's Cat D, so you can't import a 30 round magazine for the PWS or 96/22 because it's also a higher category.
Fucked right?

>>29731286
Well hey, just goes to show how many guns there are out there really.
>>
>>29731297

A magazine can't be a category
>>
>>29731287
Maybe in your state. You'll find there is in nearly every other. Rip.
>>
>>29731307
Different categories have different magazine restrictions... So yes, certain magazines fall under certain category restrictions.
Depending on the state of course, this is QLD.
>>
>>29731314

the magazine changes the classification of the rifle not the other way around?
>>
>>29731337
Yes. So lets do a scenario. Again, QLD, I can't speak for other states. You're a farmer and have your Cat C but not Cat D licence and you have bought yourself a nice 10/22. In QLD Cat C is semi-auto rimfire up to 10 round capacity. You've 'acquired' a ruger 25 round magazine (for your ruger 96/22 of course). If you put that magazine in your 10/22 that turns it into a 25 round capacity firearm and now Cat D. Illegal, prison, big black man uses you as a toy.
>>
>>29731355

Yep the firearm category is changed because of the capacity not because a cat xyz magazine was inserted into it.
>>
>>29731376
Well that's what I meant. But in saying that, a 30-round AR magazine is generally called a Cat D magazine since you need a Cat D magazine to purchase it in QLD. So while maybe not the most accurate term, it's the easiest way to describe it. At least when in retail and instructing.
>>
>>29731225
Those already exist though. Ruger 96/22s can take the 30 round 10/22 magazines.

>>29731307
Customs likes to classify them as "Cat C/D" magazines. Which is why I can buy 30 round AR mags for my pumpy at the shops but can't import them without having a Cat D licence and doing some other paperwork.

How does one qualify for Cat C or D license, I'd love a walk through that doesn't involve buying or working at a farm.

Also when are Australians going to bother campaigning for "Self Defense" to be a lawful reason to apply for a license and own a firearm?
>>
>>29730823
Why do Australian people and businesses drastically overprice every single thing I ever see them sell? I compare some prices here in the US to AU and even when factoring in conversion rates plus shipping on top (that's not even taking into account the fact you get shipping cheaper for mass import) and Australians add an extra $1000-$2000 on items that would usually cost $1000 AU after conversion. Why is this? Do they not understand lower prices = more sales = larger profit in the end? Why overprice something to get a quick buck from a couple of people who will spend $3000 when you could sell it to 50 people for $1000 each and make more money?

>Unfortunately overheard some edgy teenager talking about how ANZAC day celebrates violence last night on the train,

The modern ANZAC day is a complete slap in the face of it's original meaning and the WW1 veterans who warned against jingoism.

Howard turned ANZAC day into "Nationalist military worship wank day" based around basically an entirely made up version of Gallipoli where the entire point of ANZAC day it to recognize the uselessness of war, especially one where we lied to young men who had no clue, sent them to die in a battle that was 100% pointless, for British imperial gains.

If you "Celebrate" ANZAC day as some sort of nationalist holiday and "Those people fought for our FREEEEDOM" you mayswell be pissing on the graves of WW1 vets.

Australians do not push hard enough at all. Not even close. Take a look at the NRA then look at SSAA or SFP in Australia and the Australians are doing nothing at all. Sitting around and waiting for someone else to do it or things to magically fix themselves as usual. Australians are incredibly lazy when it comes to this sort of thing and always fall back on the "She'll be right" or "Can't change it, that's the way it is. This is Australia!" attitude which is just crazy and sad.

Also when it comes to things such as semi-auto, self defense, etc too many Australian gun owners are split which in itself causes no laws change or things to progress. The fact gun owners themselves are telling the government "Yes, please take away my rights to own specific guns and take away my right to own a gun to defend myself against a criminal that will have a gun regardless of the law!" is also sad.
>>
>>29732204

Then it's time to get a job in the government in pest control or get a job at a pest control company that has a government contract. Depending on your state, in QLD that's the only way to do it without working/owning a farm as a primary producer.

then hand it back in once your job is finished kek

do you get your information from buzzfeed and salon? because thats the only place I've ever saw that kind of leftist retarded shit posted.
>>

>>29732459

Being national socialists has nothing to do with it. One of the first things Hitler did was take away gun rights from the people so they did not have the possibility to rebel.

Yes, a lot of people had guns in Nazi Germany, because a lot of people were in the military/SS/etc. But guess what? Those people ENFORCED the no guns policy. They were not exercising freedom of ownership. They were doing their job to suppress the people.

You've been watching too much fox news and NRA debaters.
Hitler was progun and the good guy.

>Gun restriction laws applied only to handguns, not to long guns or ammunition. The 1938 revisions completely deregulated the acquisition and transfer of rifles and shotguns, as was the possession of ammunition."[9]
>The legal age at which guns could be purchased was lowered from 20 to 18.[10]
>Permits were valid for three years, rather than one year.[10]

b-but hitler was antigun :(((

nope

You do realize you are doing the anti-gun lobbies work for them right? You might as well hand in your guns now and bend over. That guy earlier talking about Australians doing nothing about gun laws and even firearms owners being backwards sure was fucking on point.
