LOL CIWS can't even sink a fucking bright red speedboat with all the time in the world.

What a piece of shit
Does the pilot go into the big white submarine looking thing?
>>29717461
They aren't actually to hit the boat.
They are showing how pecise it is. So it can give very close warning shots without hitting the boat.
>>29717589
This. It's a live fire exercise. Why waste a perfectly good speedboat (plus whoever is steering it) for an exercise? Warning shots are good enough for demonstration and a lot safer.
>>29717477
Nah, the whole thing can pop off and roll around like R2D2 though
>>29717648
>(plus whoever is steering it)
Yeah they get the new recruits to pilot a boat through storms of shrapnel and high explosives for hazing.
It's remotely controlled you mong
>>29717777
>>Yeah they get the new recruits to pilot a boat through storms of shrapnel and high explosives for hazing.
Quads of truth right there
>Phalanx
>>29717461
CIWS surface mode is jewelry, that target would be engaged with the 25mm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPIjQDJQGZU
Atleast its not as stupid as Russian CIWS
>>29720259
Quality is shit and can't speak slurred vodka speech runes.
Explain or gtfo
>>29717589
>>29717648
Yes, it's there to hit the boat. It's just an ineffective weapon against nearby surface threats.
>>29717648
>>29717589
Are you joking or actually massive apologists
>>29720528
According to the Navy it did disable the boat, but it is obvious the Phalanx targeting systems were made for aerial targets as of 2009.
>>29720278
I dunno looks clear to me
>>29719848
>only seven barrels
But true. Phallanx is a shit. Only 20mm lol.
>>29717461
https://youtu.be/uTYkcnJdDio?t=52
52 seconds. Russian CIWS is doing worse, and it was NOT warning shots.
Both confirmed for shit apparently.
>>29722787
Do these things have manual control?
Shit, any gaming autist could do better.
>>29722805
I don't remember 100% offhand, but fairly sure that it does, from two different locations. It seems to be spazzing out completely. Have to give them benefit of doubt and say that's radar-based auto-aiming failing.

Burgers have the best ship-defense missile. The SM-3 Block IIA.
>>29726831
Beyond all reason, the manual controls seem to be shit.
When your CIWS can double for a land based force protection platform that picks mortars from out of the sky, call me.
>>29727038
Pantsir is supposed to do that, but we have actual videos of Phalanx doing it's thing.
>>29717461
Hey retard CIWS was not designed to engage surface targets, especially slow ones.
>>29727038
Speaking of which, is Phalanx not armed with the same explosive ammunition that CRAM uses?
>>29728160
No, because nobody cares if any rounds that miss the target fall into the ocean.
>>29717461
oh fuck a 2009 test! how relevant!
was it even supposed to hit the boat?
also the phalanx isn't designed to hit surface shit, the 25mm would be used for surface contact.
>>29728185
My thinking was that proximity fuse explosive rounds could work wonders against FAC. But I realize that the charges are only intended to destroy the projectile.
>>29721034
>can't hit a large boat a few hundred yards away

Seriously, the delusions in this thread is astounding.
>>29728250
>expect it to hit aircraft
:^)
>>29717477
That's the magazine, I think.
The "pilot" is somewhere inside the ship, away from the gun itself.

>>29728271
>cant turn a screw
>expect it to hammer a nail
Hammerfags are the worst
"Battleship" was a terrible film, but it was cool to see the CIWS in action.

>>29728250
Anal Cranial inversion much?
>>29720259
First missile intercepted by gun, second by missiles. The first one would have been pretty fucking close in real life, but both targets were destroyed, so what's the problem?
>>29728211
>>29728141
>>29726831
You realize that the targeting radar will have the same troubles with a sea skimming missile? Unless the CIWS is mounted really low on the hull, which they never are, the CIWS will look "down" (i.e. with the sea behind it) on the missile the same as it will with the boat?
>>29717461
Just because Phalanx is shit doesn't mean all CIWS are shit.
>>29728284
...are you serious?
Several barrels of hitting nothing is obsolete, both russian and US versions.
Putting a few air bursting shells where it counts is the future.

>>29731707
I'm not saying that a 57mm autocannon is bad but I'd really like to see that against armored or aerial targets.
>>29731649
Said while posting a CIWS with worse accuracy.
It is in manual mode for training purposes. In manual mode it is only as good as the man operating it.
Another video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uXAsaJGJZ4
>>29734742
The OP video was a speedboat though, not a stationary raft
>>29734786
Yes - it couldn't even hit a stationary raft, just like you said
>>29734786
It was still firing in short bursts, followed by a long pause to observe the target, and then another burst. That is manual control in both videos.
It is not suited for that role but they train for it just in case.
>>29731568
>First missile intercepted by gun, second by missiles.
There was only one target. First AA missiles exploded by did not damage target enough. Second AA missile missed. Gun hit the target but its debris overflew ship. If it was ASM targeting ship it would hit board.

>>29717461
You arent supposed to hit the boat during a shoot like this, you need to fire ahead of it.
I know there is a manual mode, but I have seen the CISW control panel and there is no monitor associated with it. How do they aim with it when it isn't radar controlled?
>>29734883
>How do they aim
Haven't you seen the videos ? They supposedly don't.
>>29735019
That is what I am wondering. Their panel manually lets them dial in the turret. Is someone giving them firing co-ordinates, they dial it in, and then the guy radios in corrections? It seems archaic.
>>29734883
I love the mis-fire procedure manual attached to the panel.
>>29720557

It would be really depressing if it is only a few years old.

>>29735505
No wonder Navy shit is so expensive when you have disasters of control box like that, running equipment from the 80's, and needing a dedicated operator...
Bet it costs over a million dollars for that piece of shit too.
