What do you think of the Earth Space Defense's latest jet fighter, /k/? It's been 20 years since the aliens invaded in 1996 and despite the setbacks and destruction, humanity was able to adapt alien technology to create our own hybrid fighter.

The hybrid jet fighter is based on the F22 Raptor, but adapted with shielding and hover technology reversed-engineered from alien spacecraft, incorporating the best of human and alien technology.

It's an over-priced boondoggle that ended the life of Captain Hiller, Earth's greatest hero of the alien invasion. My recommendation is that this turkey should be cancelled and replaced with a lightweight, low-cost fighter.

Fun, yes...so was Flight of the Intruder and Bat 21...but they weren't really Jet Jockey movies, they were just typical formulaic Hollywood shit with a warplane theme.

Yeah, but even those warplane themed movies are pretty much non-existent now days.
>>
>>29717037
Also true, but I'd like to see something with a kind of non-formulaic grittiness. Like an actual good Vietnam or Korean war pilot movie without any of the teenagey "YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD" kind of angst or the heavy yet trite anti-war message.

Vietnam has the best material for a fighter jock movie.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Olds#Olds.27s_mustache

Thuds were getting chewed up by NVA Mig 21s. The Air Force F4 squadrons in Thailand were low on morale and shitbags. They get this ww2 ace that is a colonel and send him to fix things.

he comes up with an idea to trap the migs in a ruse. F4s fly in with Thud jamming pods on, chatting on the radio like they are thuds, and flying in like they are Thuds. So that the vietnamese fucking shits would send Migs after them. Normally Migs ran away when they knew F4s were after them. They weren't allowed to follow the Migs back to their airfield or bomb the airfields.

So the migs would come and find F4s. They would try to run but Navy F4s would come in from the north of the engagement zone and trap them. They slaughtered the migs and started beating the NVAirforce like it owed them money.

Colonel Olds even avoids shooting down 5th and more airplanes, him self. So he can stay in his command and continue to fight. the air force would have brought him back to the states if he got kill 5.

he also has 12 ww2 kills.

no, he just didn't report the other kills he made. any gun camera footage was "lost" or "over developed"

They need to make a gritty post-ww2 fighter movie with minimal CGI

no michael bay shit
>>
>>29717145
Make it a series of movies: Olds, Ritchie and DeBellevue, Duke Cunningham and Driscoll, Feinstein and the guys he flew WSO for.

Then Letters From Iwo Jima it and cover Nguyen Van Coc, Nguyen Hong Nhi, Pham Thanh Ngan, and Mai Van Cuoung

Hollywood has yet to make a good movie about modern air combat (i.e. jets and missiles). I doubt it ever will, but this is the closest we'll get.

Maybe it's better this way. While Robin Olds' autobiography, or Thud Ridge, or the first day of the Gulf War bombing campaign ("All Eagles, get out of burner!!") have enough material, do you really trust Hollywood to not mess it up?

>Robin Olds and his ethnic wingman battle Col. Tomb in the skies over North Vietnam while fighting for diversity and genderless bathrooms at their Royal Thai Air Force Base.
>random love story for no reasons
>Bad CGI everywhere
>Top Gun avionics where radars take 15 seconds to lock on
>No actual Vietnamese actors
>South Vietnam is decadent and capitalist
>Michael Bay explosions

Or you can let Clint Eastwood direct it.

I honestly think of Nolan wanted to foray into a war movie he'd make a decent go of it, except for...yeah, tons of CG

Yes they fucking did.

"James went to Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand in December 1966, as deputy commander for operations, 8th TFW. In June 1967, under Colonel Robin Olds, he was named wing vice commander when Col. Vermont Garrison completed his tour. Both in their mid-40s, they formed a legendary team nicknamed "Blackman and Robin." James flew 78 combat missions into North Vietnam, many in the Hanoi/Haiphong area, and led a flight in the "Operation Bolo" MiG sweep in which seven Communist MiG-21s were destroyed, the highest total kill of any mission during the Vietnam War."
