Hey /k/, made a thread last night about putting together a Semi-auto .308 deer/pig-slayer.

Settled on the M14 platform, specifically a Norinco M305 Carbine with an 18.5" barrel. Optics wise, I already have a low-power Bushnell Elite 3200 scope but I want to get a low-light/night-vision scope since most of my stalking/hunting is before dawn and after dusk.

All up;
- Norinco M305 18.5" Carbine .308 $699 NZD ($480 USD)
- Armasight Vampire 3X Night-Vision $1,299 NZD ($890 USD)
- Hushpower Silencer (M14/M1A .30CAL) $499 NZD ($342 USD)

Original budget was $3,500 USD for a genuine Springfield M1A Match with a ProMag Archangel stock, Leupold VR-X 2 low-power scope, AAC Cyclone suppressor etc. You guys chewed me out for spending so much for a deer/pig-slayer that's going to spend most of it's life on the front rack of a dirt-bike getting thrashed around.

Anyway, is this much more appropriate now?

Pic related, minus the scope.

Are those Norinco even any good?

I heard they break a lot.

You are now sanctioned.

They are good. No worries about them.

These are the newer generation built-on original mil-spec standards. Original Norincos where just cheap copies, but these ones are built with the original machining tools. Read up some reviews with decent results, though obviously not as tight as the Springfield M1A Match that I was looking to spend $2,500 on.

Can you purchase AR type rifles in New Zealand? Honestly when it comes to killin pigs that the rifle for it.
>>
>>29710225
How do you know which ones are the newer ones?
>>
>>29710243
Pretty much removed from retail. I'm buying it new from Gun City and they're one of the biggest dealers in NZ.

$2,000+ For a low-end AR-10 .308 semi-auto. I would think /k/ would berate me again if I budgeted that much for dirt-bike gun.
>>
Good to go /k/?
>>
>>29710264
Why are you fixated on .30cal for a pig gun? I'm talking 5.56 or even a Saiga in 7.62x39 would serve you better. Pigs run and trot. You need follow up shots that are fast. An M1A or an AR10 is not the rifle for it. Have you been pig hunting?
>>
>$480 for an M14
Lucky hobbitses.
>>
>>29710342
Well according to local hunters they say .308 is the bare minimum of humane and quick (safe) kills. .308 Is also of the most popular and affordable rounds around.

Last time I went for a pig hunt, I was using a compound bow.

>>29710343
I still wouldn't call it an M14...

Forgot to search for the /brg/ thread (here http://boards.4chan.org/k/thread/29700298#p29710386)

Sounds like fudd lore to be honest. Texas is home to some of the most prolific pig slayers on this planet of ours and they use AR and AK rifles. I assure you that a 5.56 or 5.45 is plenty.

I know you can get Saiga 7.62 and 5.45 rifles there for the same price as the Chinese M1A. Grab one of those with a scope mount, red dot, and high powered spotlight. Then you're ready to slay pigs.

>$822 for an M14 and a suppressor
>mfw you will never get such a deal in America
>>
>>29710409
Okay, I just like the M14 format, so that's why I want one too. Why I was willing to spend $2,500+ on the Springfield M1A as well.

>>29710413
Well you guy have everything else though, so that's a bit of a downside here.
>>

Here is a video of a guy in Australia hunting pig from dirt bike with an SKS(7.62x39).

Canada bro here,
God damn I'm envious of your laws.

M305s are generally solid, but there is a possibility of getting a lemon which will require new parts and/or a trip to a gunsmith.

Check out the stickies in the battle rifle forum on Canadian gun nutz. You'll learn more than you'd ever care to know about inspecting and tuning your M14.

M14s in general are finicky when it comes to mounting scopes and getting any sort of accuracy out of it. The M305 triggers are not as nice as the name brand M14s. If you're planning on spending that much coin on a chinese M14 then you should also swap out the op rod spring guide for a match grade one and shim the gas system at the very least.

As far as boar blasting goes I'd take the advice of others in this thread and consider something in .223 or 7.62x39 instead. An AR-15 will be easier to get ready for hunting out of the box.

I've got this video running the background and there are a few issues with them. I'm pretty sure this is the older M305 and no the M14-S that I'm about to pull the trigger on, but still, seems like there is much to do in getting it up running smoothly.

There's a lot more I should read into as it seems...

That is the old norc M14. They have that cheap wood stock and the fake flash suppressor.

This is a good resource as well. Even with name brand M1As you'll have to tinker with them.

what the fuck is wrong with America? I want Norinco. Imagine how cheap guns would be if we could access Russian/Chinese manufacturers. Fuck you neocons.

OP here, I want Kel-Tec RFB/RDB here though... Can we swap places?

Since my question is in similar nature as thread, what is the best entry hunting rifle for around 4-600usd? Looking at something stainless steel with a scope.
>will be used for hunting deer and nigger defence in case of robber
prefer bolt action since ill be getting a handgun as standard home protection in a month or two
