For those who know, is Special Forces Assessment and Selection mostly along the lines of basically smoking you as hard as possible and he who doesn't quit gets to go on to the Q course?
Or Is it less strenuous in that way, and more along the lines of them picking you based on certain qualities?
Also, how does the whole becoming SF process differ for Officers? From what I understand, you could be from literally any branch in the army as an officer and get a shot at selection (Intel, Infantry, Ordnance, Engineer, Artillery, Air Defense Artillery, SIGINT, who knows what else), is this true?
What are washout rates for officers like compared to enlisted men?

They both smoke you and pick you based on certain qualities
You have to be in top tier physical condition and can handle heavy loads, sleep deprivation, psychological stress, extreme cold, etc.
You have to be a natural leader but also cooperate and work perfectly in a team, and put teammates before yourself, even if it means failing. You have to be able to learn and think quickly and instinctively, if you don't do shit right the first time, you're blowing your chances of making the cut. You have to have rock solid motivation and never quit no matter what. You have to be pretty much willing to die. Then if you succeed at all that, they can still turn you down for not fitting in with the unit culture. SF units are family.

It's an EOD thing. If a picture or your name shows up online, on TV, or in some sort of article then other techs can call you out and you owe them a beer. The best of the best was my buddy Clay. Some dude got a really good picture of him and it turned into a moto "Join Today" type poster that got put up EVERYWHERE.

Special Forces, SEALs, EOD, PJ, Nuke School, etc. Pretty much anything that takes above a 110 on your GT score and has a high wash out rate. If you have an uncommon skill and are hard to replace then you get a little wiggle room when it comes to the annoying shit.
