The original contract went out around 2007 and a company from Alabama called THY Enterprises was picked to make some uniforms for AFSOC (specifically the 720th Special Tactics Group). Basically AFSOC wanted fireproof, tearproof, and waterproof uniforms that didn't make a lot of noise and weren't too hot. THY made a wet weather uniform, a tropical wet weather uniform, and a bivy sack in a new pattern developed by the owners of the company. Also presented by THY, but not in their pattern, were prototypes for a poncho and gloves. As far as the name of the pattern goes, I have run across a few: Six-Screen, THY Green, and W3S are the ones used the most. THY no longer exists but I spoke with one of the two owners and he offhandedly called it "Six-Screen", so that will do until I can ask him if he had a specific name for it. While I have an account that I trust from a collector in North Carolina, black and white is favored everywhere else. Here are some excerpts from the report:
"Wet and Windy Weather System (W3S)—W3S is a two-piece ensemble of a jacket and pants designed to retain heat and exclude water. Two prototypes were critiqued by 720th personnel and 30 samples of the third prototype are scheduled for delivery for field evaluation."
"Hot Wet Weather Uniform System (HWWUS)—HWWUS is another two-piece ensemble of a shirt and pants, designed to shed heat and dry quickly.
