I own the Trijicon VCOG and the Vortex Razor 1-6

the VCOG washes out in sunlight, quick release mount doesn't return to perfect zero, and edge to edge the glass is not as good as the Vortex, it also costs way more

The razor feels way less durable, is an atrocious color that gives off glare, you'll need a zoom lever, also costs half as much.

The razor is far easier to put up to your eye and start shooting, almost as good as an eotech, the glass clarity is as good as the Trijicon if not better.

You said you wanted to keep your durability and versatility, but you're gonna have to choose. If you want durability, shell out for the VCOG. If you want versatility, the Razor is an incredible scope for CQ and at distance. I've heard rumors the gen III Razor will be 1-8 instead of 1-6 so you may want to wait on that, as a properly equiped PTR91 could make good use of that additional magnification.

YMMV

Your not wrong. But 7.62 gives such a boner to most people, especially it is the quintessential battle rifle of the cold war, and what time it was to be alive. When men were men women were women and some were trained to shoot tighter grouping s than most /k/ommandos. Then finally the dream to visit distant forgein lands meet new people. Then possibly kill the fuck out of them since they were communist guerrilas/ sympathizers. Ahh what time it was to be alive. >inb4 being nostagic about an era I didn't live in.

At a gunshow in wilmar MN last year about a week ago.
$485 cash out the door, couldn't have asked for a better price for a 308 converted surrender stick. I heard some of these 308 conversions had major problems, but mine's not bad. I had the very occasional failure to grab a round from the mag when it was brand new, but it's been a long time now since I've had anything out of the ordinary happen.
>>29605202
I know I'm nitpicking, but I'll nitpick all I want if I'm dropping that kind of money on something. I'll still get one, just won't be as high on my purchase order.
I don't care for garands that much either, but not for the same reasons. I just don't care for the looks so I just leave them sit on the shelf since I have zero intention of buying one right now. I'd much sooner grab an m14 to avoid the weird 8rd clips. Sorry if some people like them so much, I don't care for them.

How close are you wanting to be? Buying exterior parts alone will cost you more than a real PSG1 and you gotta do the internals as well at that point.

I don't think there's any replica parts so you have to just make a "homage", here's a list on top off my head to make a cringe worthy look-a-like
>short PSG1 5 round mag, 100+ dollars
>scope, I don't know, expect the real one be collector's item, slap a scope of your liking, maybe find the same reticle as a real one
>pistol grip, aftermarket 50-100 dollars, real one 300 dollars
>stock, Magpul PRS2, maybe 300 dollars, real PSG1 1000 dollars
>black wide handguard good enough, saw off front sight post kek
Triggers packs, etc internals go for 1000s for little pieces

But on the other hand every PSG1 part never loses it's value and may even appreciate.

As a funfact PSG-1 was meant for elite police sniper only and to be shot as a true precision rifle, not a military rifle to be carried in mud. The most overengineered semi-auto in the world.

Well, there was only one there to buy anyway. I fell in love with it the second I held it because it just felt so good in my hands and I love how the rifle looks, especially the muzzle end.
It was one of maybe 3 guns to even catch my attention at all during the whole show. That show is great if your interests are strictly handguns and hunting rifles/shotguns, otherwise just barely worth the price of admission for people like me.

How am I going to carry a rifle if it doesn't have a carry handle?
>>
>>29608270
It has two handles already. Do you have three hands?
>>
>>29608247
1-6 leaves a lot to be desired on a .308
Depending on what your shooting and whats around it, making out the target can be hard to do without a little extra magnification. On a .223 where if you get some mk262 and run it out of a 20" bbl, you can get fragmentation to 300 yards, a 1-6 is about sublime.

A .308 can reach out much further and do more than punch paper or ring steel

10x is considered to be somewhat bottom end of the useful spectrum on a .308. As you may want to keep the low end power low, a 2.5-10 is pretty damn optimal. This also keeps the weight down.

If you got a real shooter, and dont mind a little heavier scope a 3-15 is pretty good too.

Is the PTR91 GI-R really so durable?
I've been looking to buy myself a nice semi auto lately and my biggest thing is durability and reliability. I want a gun that (with proper care maintenance) will last me a hundred years or so. I want a gun that I can drag through the swamp, drop in the mud, ect. and still fire after a basic cleaning or without cleaning it at all (obviously I'm over exaggerating, but you get the idea). Will this rifle do this for me? If not what will?

L1A1 vs AR-10

Let's say cost wise, the L1A1 is about half the price of the AR-10, which one would you go for?

A good L1A1 would be like $1300, or a $2600 AR-10? Assuming your in burgerland, the AR-10 is going to be a MUCH better shooter. If your not in a free country, L1A1. The AR-10 is likely to be inflated in price.

L1A1 is still likely good. And if there are issues with your rifle, spare parts are a thing. Just check the barrel at least first. Thats a harder part to source/replace.

>>29610919
If the price difference is really double and theres no other way to build one yourself then go with the FAL. Its accurate enough within 150 yards for any standard hunting. I thought semi's were banned in Aus?

I really want a flashlight on my rifle but I can't find any way to do so with the wide handguard that doesn't involve chopping up a light bipod and creating a monstrosity.
>>
>>29611861

>>
>>29611812
SFP is fine.
Your not likely to be ranging with the reticle at less than maximum magnification anyway.
You can get an SHV F1 3-10 if you want FFP.

USO makes good scopes. They put out more than their share of lemons, but they do stand behind them.
>>
>>29611510
>feed lips, remember the scar is an upgraded fal in spirit so its backward compatible
If it is backwards compatible, that would mean the SCAR mags work in a FAL and NOT vice-versa.

So what do you mean?
>>
>>29611812
Because a FFP 2.5-10x doesn't make a whole lot of sense in this context. SFP is ideal for any optic with a top end that is <10.
>>
>>29611940
He means that an FAL mag can be converted to run in the SCAR. It may be possible to punch out lip on the front of the SCAR mag to lock in the FAL, im not sure if the different feed lip geometry would be an issue, as the FAL to SCAR conversion you need to remove material from the lips.

Have you used it?
>>
>>29612784
Yes?
>>
>>29612792
Well good. I'll chalk you down for people that think a gun sucks and has actually used it.
>>
>>29612822
Theyre neat little rifles but horribly over priced and not nearly as good as other contemporary battle rifles.
>>
>>29612852
Mind listing some specific grievances you had with it?
>>
>>29612852
Is it the tube brass dump thing that causes the issues? Looks like jam central when I checked the specs.

Finicky with ammo, felt too plastic; like I could break it by falling on it, shit trigger. The gun was certainly more accurate than I am, but I have read at best its a 2-3 MOA rifle which at $1700, is pretty bad. I really want to like the design, and its fun but its completely beat out.

but red orchestra 2 actually got good after beta
>>
>>29613055
You're writing that like it was good as soon as beta ended.
That shit heap was bad for a very long time, after most of the people who bought it gave it up, including most people who had played RO1. I have zero friends who still play it that played RO1, that's my whole clan and another clan I just play with alot. Damn near 100 people, and none of them have even turned on that piece of shit for years now.

You expect too much. You ever see those pictures of soldiers crossing a river, holding their rifles up over their heads.
Let go of your fantasy faggot.

Implying the Cetme, G3 precursor design didn't come out of one of those shitty South American countries. Fucking dumbass.
>>
>>29613173
All the battle rifles are just as capable as eachother. Honestly. At least the big 3 + SCAR.
