It was a bit of pipe I used to grind up fireworks and shoot birdshot out of as a kid. Found it and didn't have any fireworks or black powder handy so I tried substituting with one part charcoal to two parts shotgun powder ground fine with maybe like 12 peices of birdpeices
Actually kind of cool how it deformed into the shape if the vice. Fired it off in my basment with a niggerrigged electric fuse and the steel doors shut.

I'd use as little as I can. Problem with using smokeless in BP-rated guns, the amount you need to not blow up your gun can be too little to compress and ignite evenly, so you might get more misfires in large-bore BP guns. Hence why there's such a problem with people using too much.
Would also recommend getting one that burns at around the same speed as BP for consistency's sake, but unless you're autistic about recording data and maximizing velocity then it probably won't matter.

Is is more a matter of burn rate and time. There are smokeless powders like Trail Boss that are designed to burn slowly and can be shoved in blackpowder firearms and only have a significant risk of killing you instead of a guarantee.
In all seriousness, I have used up to 30 grains of Trail Boss out of an inline muzzleloader and not died. Any percussion cap or flint gun would likely have failed.

I don't think they use particuarly diffrent pressure rated barrels though. I mean, it's a clusterfuck of diffrent standards but all need to conform to a certain minimum or else just go out of business after lawsuits. Regardless the barrels are thicker on cap or flint locks so unless you are using an India special I think similar loads would work in in them.
