Tower 7, which is located north of Tower 6, is haunted by the ghost of an officer that worked there long ago. Officers working in towers 6 and 8 frequently see the figure of a man moving about the interior of the tower. (tower 7 is not staffed between 2200-0600, however 6 and 8 are). I've only seen the apparition once.
The soap factory is also haunted by several spirits. At one time a staff member claimed to see 10-12 people inside in the middle of the night. Every once in a while I see a figure moving around inside.
In the 1920s, a Warden was stabbed to death by an inmate in the laundry building, several inmates and staff members report hearing screams and banging in the early hours of the morning and late at night.
There is a cemetery located 200 meters South of the perimeter that was once used to bury deceased inmates that didn't have family to claim them. Staff working in Tower 3 frequently report seeing human figures all over the cemetery. For some reason the cemetery is called Grasshopper Hill, I don't know the story behind that one.

The short of it is, everything that you'd use a chainsaw for,
The long explanation is that it's a one person crosscut saw and these get used by trail crews to clear trees and brush that have fallen across trails and roads in areas that due to legal reasons (example: Wilderness or otherwise non-motorized areas), or weather conditions (Example: high fire hazard conditions where everything motorized and campfirery gets restricted to certain hours/areas) we can't use chainsaws.
I used it for the majority of my work last summer because for the most part I was working solo and forest service regs are that you have to have at least two saw certified people when running saw, that and no one really questions you when you're in an FS uniform and carrying a hand saw that size.
Anyway, if I remember that thread correctly from last summer the guy made a few more posts, described the pepper grenades and someone ID'd them as older white phosphorus smoke grenades which the forest I was on last summer does have a stock of that gets used for lighting back fires when they can't get restocks of the normal fire starters.
Anyway, the saw in that picture up there has toolmarks dating back to the 1800s and was sharp as a tack when I had it and was maintaining it.

When I read stories like this I always like to open up google earth and check out the area it takes place in, but from satellite imagery even areas like this don't seem so desolate at first; there are empty areas sure, but they're surrounded by all the little photo links and military bases and whatnot. But this story really focuses things in, and panning through the individual valleys and washes you realize just how empty the place really is. Imagining being lost and walking hopelessly through that terrain for miles, scanning the horizon desperate for a sign of human habitation but each scenic view revealing nothing but miles and miles of empty desert... Can't help but wonder where along that path those Germans were when the realization sunk in that they were going to die out there, or what they were doing in their last moments... Did they walk until they dropped, or did they give up hope and curl up somewhere and wait patiently for the end?

Back in high school, I was on a mission trip to the Navajo reservation in New Mexico building a church, and some of the natives told us not to go outside the school we were staying at during the night because of the "Devil People" (this was 7/8 years ago... I've got one I've told on /k/ before.
Last October a few friends and I were digging out the Dawson forest Nuclear aircraft lab bunker. The first night we dug until about 2 am and then made camp by the main road coming in, about 25 yards away from the road, as it was the only real clearing to hang hammocks. At around 4-5 am a truck drove down the road and shined its lights into our camp for a good 5 minutes before driving down and access road. Two trucks continued to drive back and forth down this access road until 7 am. At the time I was just pussed they were making so much noise and I wasnt to concerned for my well being. Now, the more I think about it, the more I feel that we could have been hurt. The next day we finished digging and went in. Was super spooky at first, but 300 meters in it was flooded and curved sharply to the right so we couldn't go any farther. That night we made camp south of the tunnel instead of by the road so we wouldn't get woken up. One of my friends said that when we opened up the tunnel he felt what we did was wrong some how. Like we needed to fill it back in so nothing could come out. He usually is a very level headed person so I told him not to worry about it. That night he woke me up and said he heard something walking around our camp to the west maybe 50 meters away. The problem with /k/ spoopy stories is that it's inevitably going to have guns in it, as that's our nature here. So at some point in the story, the whatever is going to be shot at and either it dies or gets chased away or you're forced to give it comic book healing factors or invulnerability.
