Do you have a woods/mountain gun, /k/? What is it?

Pic related, Glock 29 in a Kenai chest rig

My paratrooper SKS, i've got a tapco 20 rounder in it for good measure. I still have to original mag if I ever want to switch back.

you like that thing? they're expensive
>>
>>29577725

Yes, it is expensive but I had a need for a kydex chest holster I could use while backpacking and it's been excellent. Definitely a specialty, niche item but worth the cost if you need it.

Walther PP in .32 because I don't have anything larger than deer where I live, and deer aren't going to fuck with me, they're too spooked. I'm more worried about tweakers.

Definitely check out chest rigs: kydex style like OPs or soft pouches like those made by Hill People Gear and Kifaru, etc. Chest rigs are ideal when carrying with a backpack and don't cause interference like a belt-mounted holster.

I'll always have my Hi Power on my hip in the woods/mountains and if I do want to bring a long gun I'll have my vz.58 in an old M60 barrel bag strapped around my pack.
>>
>>29577425

I carry a glock 20, usually a 12 gauge.

It's great. It fits just fine with the pinned and welded Czechpoint barrel and has enough room for either two 30 round mags and about 60 rounds on stripper clips, or I'll just keep it in with a 10 round mag in the gun and stuff all the pockets with with about 120 rounds on stripper clips.

Hmm, that's...that's really smart.

Burton has some great quality backpacks and coats. I prefer them to some gaudy overly tactical crap that just screams 'I have a gun'.

What are you planning on running into out there......Thinking of getting into hiking and backpacking but don't want to go out without anything. I have a 9mm and .45 but those won't do shit from what I read regarding worst case scenario wildlife situation.

Glock 29. I CC it when innawoods because I used to have an OC holster but climbing around it was getting hung up on stuff.

For the eastern US .357 coming out of a decent length barrel will do the trick. Need a more stiffer belt for the holster though, lots of swing and flex currently.

They were recently covered in depth by Jim and the conclusion is that while you will lose a friend to them, after the initial sacrifice they get pretty peaceful.

My SLR-104 is too long with the zigzag muzzle brake to fit in the barrel bag so I use a Wilson tennis racket bag when I bring that innawoods, but although I prefer the SLR-104 to the vz the vz has been my woods/mountains/camping gun for like seven years so I still just bring it.

Plus the barrel bag blends in more with my pack than a tennis racket bag.

>What are you planning on running into out there
Nothing really, we only have small black bears in this state that are easily scared off and an estimated 10-20 grizzlies in the entire state so the likelihood of running into one of those is very slim. Even if I did run into a bear or cougar or something I'd have to take off my pack, unzip the bag, take out the rifle and unfold the stock in order to even use it, which is much too slow. When I'm hiking around my BHP on my hip would be the first thing I'd grab in self defense but that's mainly people as the chances of running into dangerous wildlife is very slim, and generally your best bet for wildlife is to make yourself big and make a lot of noise.

I only bring a rifle to plink with or to have on hand when camping in one location as a just in case. When I've got a camp set up in the middle of nowhere the rifle is usually ready to go strapped over my shoulder.
>>
I always take my browning bl-22 micro Midas hiking with me. I bring some regular 22lr, and some 22 shorts. It cycles everything and holds up to 18 in the mag.
>>
>>29577425
How easy is it to draw, OP? that seems a little high up and I have long ass arms.
>>
>>29577425
Usually carry my c96 with the holster stock, it doesn't snag on anything and makes a handy carbine if i want to take a pot shot at a coyote.

Get the fuck off my board.
