No, it'll be great, but be weary to inspect it thoroughly when it comes in. I bought mine at a local shop and was able to go through five different surplus BHPs and find the one with the least amount of internal wear.

Also >>29574296. It'll be hit or miss. Mine was 100% fine functionally minus some worn out springs that cost only $25 to replace.

All together for the pistol, springs, and a Cerakote job I have about $560 in this and I love it more than any other handgun I've ever owned.

I just got mine from AIM. Will post photos later.

Yeah, it is worn. Finish is a lot more worn than the example pictured. bore and crown is good. barrel locks up in the slide well. everything works and feels tight. The only thing that feels worn is the slide rattles some on the frame.

I'll have to find a new browning or FN Hi/High Power to compare it too. I have yet to shoot it also.

would one of these be a good first pistol?

In the same boat. Sometime since the new year, my lust for a target 1911 morphed into lust for a surplus Hi Power.

Changing out parts is no issue, and kind of a bonus actually, I like to tinker.

Are they reliable enough for carry? Or are they too worn out? Can they handle +P loads?

Finish isn't an issue as much as function. I just want a back up gun that can double as a plunked.

Magazine disconnect safety.

Some say it makes the trigger gritty. It also keeps the magazine from falling out. Sometimes it barely drops down at all.

You can spend a few minutes to take it out.

Though I am just going to keep mine in. Just for sake of keeping everything as designed.

There's similar looks and design cleverness between the 1911 and HP, but besides that and similar control locations, there is little if and mechanical similarity between the two due to JMB having to work around the still-current patents on the 1911 that he sold to Colt.

Find one at a store that isn't too bad.
I regularly see refurbished FEG's go for as low as $300.
Just look locally for a used gun in your price range. It may take a bit of looking but good deals on good Hi Powers do exist.
I traded my first hi power (1991 production, 99-100% condition) from an old guy who bought it, shot it twice then kept it in his glove box until he decided he needed to get a polymer gun, I gave him a Glock 19 with night sights and $100.
The second one (Type 73 with target sights and a match barrel 80-90% condition) I got for $500. Both were last summer. You just have to look, don't jump on the first one you see (unless its a great deal) but also always be prepared to buy.

I got one. It's well used. The firing pin retaining plate was cracked. The right side ambi safety is loose, needs a new pin for that. It had about 30 years of grit and oil inside of it. I cleaned that bitch, replaced the plate, got some mags, and it's good to go. My local shop had some slightly used mags for 15 so I snagged a couple.

I am the Anon that posted the photo series of the stripped high power.

I just gave it its first cleaning. Damn jews didn't clean it well. Carbon was thick in the firing pin channel, the pin, inside the magazine, sear, and mag well.

Also, getting the firing pin retaining plate off and back on is a pain.

What should I use to restore the three dot sights?
>>
>>29587392
>Antique
It was made in 1991 senpai. It's younger than I am.

I got it cerakoted because it wasn't originally blued. The original finish was a black paint. I didn't want to blue it because I carry it and abuse it and cerakote holds up considerably better than a blued finish and cerakote only cost $15 more than getting it blued.

My BHP isn't a gun that I baby, it's a gun that I have no problems strapping on my hip or throwing it in my glovebox or beating he shit out of it when goofing off inna mountains. If I wanted a BHP to look pretty I would have bought a proper commercial Belgian made Mk II with a nice blues finish, not a $380 beat up sand people surplus sidearm.

This right here. Mine is also a 1991 hi power. I scrape all that silly paint off and keep it oiled. It's a shooter not a collector. I'm older than the damn thing.

No one regrets a Hi-Power

This is a splendid gun that isadmirable from every angle: accurate, reliable, historically and mechanically significant, in a good caliber with a relatively high capacity.

You'll need some of these.

Hi powers are fucking awesome wonder-nines, but personally I'm saving up $1200 to dump into pic related. High polish bluing gives me a hardon like you wouldnt believe.

An all steel single action wondernine? What more could you ask for?

I bought an MKII made in '87. So it has has that shitty light gray finish, the slide rib and the fixed front sight with a removable rear sight. I plan on restoring it, does anyone know any cerakote that is close to a nice blueing? Like a satin midnight black or something? I actually plan on sending it to NOVAK's to get it all done which would cost around $600 with the sights, match barrel, removable of the rib plus the novak cuts/milling on the front and rear sight. Seems like a good deal?

He made the 1911 and it was really successful, so he wanted to make a successor to it, a bigger, badder version. Unfortunately, he couldnt use many of his own designs because of licensing issues(Since he sold the 1911 to colt or something like that). He kicked it before he could finish, so FN took over and made it for the french? military, hence the fucktarded magazine disconnect.
